StarFox (2026)

So another remake of Starfox 64? They remade it as Starfox 64 3D on 3DS in 2011, then remade it as Starfox Zero on Wii U in 2016, now they're remaking it again for Switch 2 in 2026.

If I was a big Starfox fan I'd probably be pretty pissed. Why can't they just make a new game? If nobody buys it they'll try again with a fourth Starfox 64 remake in 10 years. Shesus. There is barely even 3 actual core games in this series over 35 years, and the 2nd one (Starfox 2 for SNES) was buried and not even released until 2017.

Yeah... Because Star Fox 2 was initially cancelled, Star Fox 64 is itself a combined sort of remake of the two games. Then Star Fox 64 was remade for the 3DS with Zero being a semi-remake of 64 as well. That would mean Adventures, Assault, Command and the eventually released version of 2 are the only straight forward sequels in this franchise, and Command has such a convoluted set of contradictory paths and endings that it couldn't be fully canon had they decided to make another actual sequel.

Why Nintendo prefers filling this franchise with reboots instead of actual sequels is a mystery to me. In case anyone has heard the audio files from the early version of Adventures that was still after Dinosaur Planet started to get reworked into a Star Fox game but before the shift to Gamecube, you know that game too was seemingly going to have no connections to previous games either with yet another alternate take on the characters. Not sure who decided to make it a sequel to 64 but if they didn't, then the list of direct sequels would have been even shorter, if not non-existent.

So the new Star Fox game came out during the week for the Switch 2.
Anyone played it? Its a remake of Star Fox 64, I seen a lot of videos and live streams of people playing it all the way through. Its really that good.

What a dumb idea it was to release a version of the first game again. Whoever thought of that needs to be fired. Is it really that difficult to think of a new story?

No, it was a great idea. It's the remake the game needed and its selling very well. Even the 3DS remake is now 14 years old from 2011.

The game is polished and has new cutscenes, better gameplay, multiplayer and a new challenge mode. I like a lot of the new voice acting too, the main cast is excellent, but some of the voices for some of the stage bosses were better in the original.

Well at least somebody likes it. Different strokes for different folks.

Yeah, this is the TMNT video game section, this is probably going to be deleted for being off topic.
Edit: Oh, it was merged instead... FYI, there was a thread in the TMNT video game section for this.

It seems like it would have been pretty easy to just make a Starfox game that is a sequel that isn't continuity heavy or anything. So that it's basically a requel but really a sequel.

It's literally critically acclaimed by everyone who played it and has gotten great reviews. Aside from a few boss voices I prefer on the N64 version, everything is improved tremendously. Playing the game with better graphics, music, better play control and new cutscenes and challenge mode is a vast improvement.
