It’s like you… are new here? Just came back to the forum after 4 years avoiding how toxic this board is. Just wanted to see if those angry people were now happy that NECA lost the license. Lol, somehow still miserable. Same people. Same complaints. NECA is moving on, I hope you find peace and are able to as well (unless it brings you happiness yelling at clouds). Glad I left when I did, sad to see not much has changed. You can @ me but I’ll never see it. Good riddance. Hope all the people that found joy in what was truly a renaissance era for TMNT figures are happy with what we got. I’m certainly content and thankful for all the art and risks these companies took. And if this post somehow makes you upset, please go touch grass. Life’s too short to be mad at action figures. Enjoy your lives, peace out.

Irony alert.
Quote:
SleepDrifter = "toxic evil he claims to fight". No, bud. I'm not arbitrarily "happy" with NECA giving us nicely sculpted toys when it's been years of value-gouging and boutique-pricing. But you keep on being you - in strange-bliss over the shape of your toys while under mindless consumption with no regard to actual value. So..... f NECA. Additional "irony alert". Clear apartment dweller more invested in his TMNT Toys than in real property tells a guy with normal life-goals to "touch grass". This IS the root of the toxicity on the Technodrome forums. Strange behavior. This is a pretty massive thread that’s been running for 5 years… one guy airs a negative opinion and that warrants a lurker to come out of the wood work and take him to task over it?
Whatever, see ya later bud. You’ll be missed |

Yup.
And not only that, but the "negative opinion" is basically a completely sound value-argument. My commentary about new, at-retail pricing is sound, and it pushes back appropriately on the low-IQ people who virtue-believe the manufacturer-spin about "tooling" and other BS that isn't actually the consumer's problem. The nature of some people is to actually believe that a toy company did them a favor by making a toy, overcharging for it under a boutique model, and then convinced the peasant-thinking-buyer that it was actually all for them. Meanwhile Mattel's core-lines are finally trying to do something right. And so was Jada with the SFII line if you can tolerate the encroaching-on-ridiculous pricing they are doing with their alleged "Deluxe" figures. There are correct models out there. But this thread is about "NECA". Like I said, SleepDrifter is literally the root of toxicity he made his virtue-stance against. Last edited by IMJ; 09-01-2026 at 02:39 PM. |

I was looking at the NECA store right now (they're having a 24 hour "Flash Sale" on only CERTAIN TMNT figures) and holy cow... $69 plus tax for the damn Orkai figure? They can f*** off with that, for sure.

Yeah, still puzzling that they’d make that figure at all. Let alone at that price point.

These things are literal eventual landfill filler. Not in our lifetimes, because we strangely covet them, but All Good Things Come To An End and to the landfill they go, except one or two kept in a museum somewhere. They have no practical value. The value is simply "they make us happy." What we have learned is that people will, if they have the means, pay whatever price is asked if the promise is happiness. If I convince you that a rock from my front yard will make you happy, I can sell you that rock for some price when in fact you should just go get one for free down the street. People don't act this way over food for instance. We literally need food to exist, it does make you happy to be fed but more importantly it makes you alive. So when food is overpriced, people are mad. But if all something does is makes you happier than you are at rest, for some reason, we're easy to swindle. It's the biggest lie ever told that any action figure ever, collector or not, Mondo or Playmates, even in the "cheap" days of a decade ago, was worth $20. It ain't. But if it makes you happy, now it is. I only wish people acknowledged this. Instead for some reason they try and act like experts on economics of scale and "tooling" just like you said and blah blah blah and do the company's work of convincing us of the value for them. They should be paying those people for all their efforts. Armchair corporate executives. It's easy to believe, too, because if you look at it like "how expensive would it be for me to make one nice custom figure I want" then yeah that's gonna cost you a ton of money. None of these companies are making one figure, they're making thousands, and they already have supply chains and negotiated rates with factories and so on. Even when they limit it (to help sell the lie that it is valuable) they still produce way more than just one -- and they usually keep in their back pocket some later reissue that's a different color and all those hijinks. No, that figure from NECA is not economically worth $38. It was not worth $20 in 2016 either. It is worth whatever you are willing to pay for it, which benefits NECA and scalpers, not you, unless you have the willpower to simply say "I guess happiness can be found elsewhere". |

I don't see smart people ruining spaces. I routinely see society's morons ruining spaces. And when it comes to toys, it's the mouth breathers who cheerlead everything under some psychosis of "positivity and support" (e.g., a toy company convincing consumers that the extreme cost of a 'license' leads to 40 to 50 bucks for an action figure that should, by all reality, cost 20 or less at-retail). So your "wish for truthful acknowledgment" is mine as well. Because if modern society wasn't overflowing with easily-manipulated 'clown world,' then companies would strive for "quality, ingenuity and value" as opposed to striving for "bull$#!( justification that works because everyone is now so f'n stupid". |

![]() ![]() I get railing at NECA -- I don't like paying that much for figures either, and indeed most of the NECA stuff I get these days is on clearance or at Ross. But if Hasbro figures are worth $28 (they're not, but if that's the market value), then I guess NECA figures are easily worth $37+? Like I'm just saying. (Those Super7 figure prices are the ones that really throw me. These floppy things are barely worth the heavily discounted prices I paid.) If Mattel can toss us something on par with what they're doing with the DC Premier line (seriously, that Joker easily has the best-painted face of any Joker I own) for $12.99 or less, I'll be quite pleased.

I agree with Wes.
Disappointed I hesitated on my chance at buying a Garfellow figure at retail price (plus shipping) during NECA's sale. I figured those things would have been made in ridiculously large quantities but looks like they sold out fast and there's still demand for it on the after market.

But the point about Mattel reflects my position perfectly. Both the MOTU movie Core line and the DC Premier line are examples of a company doing it correctly. The price is right and they aren't "punishing you with lower value" l like Hasbro does with 20 5-points figures. |
