That might actually be the best word to describe it right there.

"Trashy."

Yeah, can somebody remind me why the fuck "make the Turtles enroll in high school" was even a priority in the first place, let alone the highest one?

"I want to make a new take on TMNT where they have to go to High School with humans!"

=

"I don't understand TMNT at all so let's just do a thing."

I’m sure I’ve said this before, but it’s so crazy to me how many garbage fanfics there were back in the day using that as a concept. Nobody ever took them very seriously and I certainly never gave a single one the time of day.

Fast forward to present day and look at us now lol

The fact that we're genuinely unclear on that at all kind of says it all about the quality of this iteration.

It’s not fake news until President Trump tells us it’s fake news. I’m sorry, that’s just how it is, I don’t make the rules.

I've been wanting to rewatch MM, I'll wait until the sequel is about to hit theaters and also check out the show. I wonder if it can actually be cool. I liked MM just fine, but didnt' feel the need to watch more of this universe after it with the weird decisions they took but I really loved the style. 4 years for the sequel, damn. I think the break of TMNT stuff in general is good but to come back with something that failed to excite people the first time after the break seems odd.
Also since we haven't heard anything about the live action movie, pretty sure it won't be coming out november 2028.

A lot of the future of TMNT depends on this film, if this bombs, who knows what happens, cancelling the live action movie if it isn't far into production. If it does ok but underperforming expectations like the first then we might see some other TMNT projects like the live action movie. If this does well, then they might cancel the live action movie altogether and just give us another MM sequel. So iguess for the live action film the best news would be for this to perform just enough to show people like the brand but not digging the animated movie.

I rewatched it last December. It has some good animation, but the Turtles act "too black" for me, where they feel like black teens rather than Turtle teens. Superfly and all the rap music being black too didn't help matters, it was like they were trying to copy the Miles Morales Spider-verse movies and trying to make a black-themed TMNT movie.

IIRC the creators of TMNT, originally said that their idea was they were black humans who would wear a turtle shell for protection and fight crime. Are you really going to grab an OG Donatello action figure from playmates and say that's not meant to be a naked bald black man wearing a turtle shell?
That was the original pitch, playmates just said "why not make them actual turtles" and things went from there.

The turtles have always been black coded, just like piccolo, and April was always black, same as Baxter stockman, the FW show just whitewashed the characters. Thankfully we live in a better era now where we can just exist as who we are. TMNT was always an African American franchise, the fact that we allowed white people to also like it is a different thing.
Hip Hop and Rap are in the DNA of this franchise.

What I mean is look at this clip from the movie where the Turtles say, "Bacon, egg and cheese" over and over and say "yolk, yolk, yolk!"

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/XNcO4rSJ65o

They just act and sound like black teens! Watch that clip and say with a straight face they don't act black there.
