Nathan Summers is voiced by Obsession's Michael Johnston. He confirmed it on Instgaram

So the cartoon originally ended in 1997, and since we're now in 2026, that means nearly 30 years of new X-men comics and stories were written in the comics since the show ended.

Is the show going to play "catch-up" and condense and loosely adapt all the biggest X-men comic stories from 1997-2026?

We know the original showrunner didn't want to adapt the Krakoa era from 2018-2024, but who knows if that's changed since then.

Apparently there were plans to adapt the Age of Apocalypse and Onslaught arcs in season two but those plans have reportedly been abandoned.

I haven't watched this because as much as I love the 90s cartoon it's been over a decade since I last watched it. I feel I'd need to rewatch the entire show again and that stops me. Especially since I'm a completionism so it basically means I'd also need to watch all of the other 90s cartoons it shares a universe with, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Iron Man, Avengers, that's just too many episodes.

As much praise as the revival got, I still don't know the original run had already done pretty much everything and gave us a decent enough finale. Was it really necessary to go back to this universe?

well I'm not too familiar with x-men comics but I was always told that the original cartoon did a pretty good adaptation of various important arcs from the past and even the present (well present as when it was airing), I'm sure they might do some greatest hits versions of some important arcs that fit but this team was very much a 90s x-men based on that specific team in the comics, which other story arcs well they just changed the teams and the dynamics, so it doesn't make too much sense to adapt some of the later storylines I think. The comics at the end of the day are just soft reboots from time to time.

Finally watched the series. My god, how much was the budget for the animation? At times it felt like we were watching a super long anime movie since we binged-watched episode 2 all the way to the end.

The wife was none too pleased that Gambit died, though it looks like he'll come back as one of the Horsemen in season 2, hopefully before he turns back to normal. I mean I'm sure Gambit died a few times in the comics as most long-running comic book characters do... but the dude is still alive and well nowadays so let's bring him back. I mean, sure if Gambit was dead for years in the comics, or there was some story arc where he was dead at the time, sure. But let's not kill characters for the hell of it. I mean the OG killed Morph but he was partially made up to be a sacrifice and he wasn't even in the theme song which woulda been a clue he didn't matter as much as the others.

She was happy to see Nightcrawler back though they did heavily tone down his religious talk. Especially since nowadays woke people equate religious types with 'the wrong side'.

I had to explain to the misses that yes, Magneto did indeed tear the andamantium from Wolverine's bones in the comics which how we would find out he (somehow) has bone claws all along.

To be honest, that part never made sense to me because it would imply Wolverine's claws were coated in adamantium all along, but they always looked like long blades that were too thin for any bone to be in there. Plus his bone claws look completely different from his metal claws, which furthers how his claws should look completely different when coated in metal. yeah I know it was a retcon, and yeah I know it was probably due to the top brass at Marvel saying 'Wolverine is known for his claws, we can't have him for an extended period of time without claws. I don't care if he lost the andamantium. Give him claws. Somehow.'

The next season looks like it's going to feature Feral Wolverine before he gets back to normal. Too bad Marrow won't make an appearance.

But didn't the original run have a episode titles Days of Future Past?

Yep, season 1 episodes 11 and 12....it was a flippin' 2-parter. A 2-parter with one of my favorite quotes:
Storm: Skin color prejudice? That's so pathetic, it's almost quaint.

Yeah, it's on purpose and a play on the title.

I wish Wolverine did more than just be there and then have the Magneto scene. But I guess it evens out since in the old show he was the character with the most solo episodes.

I think the biggest disappointment of the show, for me , was the fact they brought back the original cast, and half of them were moved to other characters, Morph has totally lost his quirky, light-hearted humor. Gambit was my favourite character as a kid, and Chris potter did such a great job voicing him, now he's Cable for some bizarre reason

She-Hulk and Deadpool to appear next season

Also, they're again borrowing a development from the modern comics, Rogue and Gambit's marriage
