You probably use A.I right now and don't even realize it.

The real thing could well be back before the decade's through. BBC planning to air the next series in 2028/2029

I do love it when I post comments that age like wine

Quote:
An artificial intelligence-generated episode of Doctor Who was “pretty good,” according to BBC Director General Matt Brittin.

Brittin, who used to run Google EMEA, revealed that somebody had recently sent him a 50-minute ep of the BBC’s long-running sci-fi franchise, which was completely AI-generated, and today he refused to slam it.

“Pretty good” was Brittin’s verdict of the ep of the show that has been running on the BBC for six decades and will return with a new creative team in a couple of years’ time. “I mean it’s not going to replace humans but we’ll come on to that,” he countered.

Speaking at the RTS London Convention, Brittin echoed Amazon international boss Kelly Day in throwing his weight behind the power of AI. Day just said AI “brings down costs meaning more stories can be made, more diverse voices can get heard and more creative risks get taken.”

RTD's new memoir is out next week, and The Guardian have shared a tell-all extract that reveals what happened towards the end of the RTD2 era

In the extract, he talks at length about the difficulties in promoting the show for two years despite knowing the axe was going to fall, story details on his pitch for the abandoned 2026 Christmas special, his frustration that he couldn't have the 2025 leaker 'Andrew' arrested because the BBC thought prosecuting someone for leaking Doctor Who spoilers would look weird, and describing the Billie Piper cliffhanger as a 'piece of piss' you can either ignore or explain in seven words

The potential production team bidders for the revival of the live-action series have been announced

Jed Mercurio is a hotly tipped favourite. He showruns the prestige police drama Line of Duty and has science-fiction experience having written the 1998 BBC drama Invasion: Earth

RTD's memoir is out now and he discusses a lot about what could have been not just with series 3 of the Disney+ deal, but also the future of The War Between

1. Series three would have ended with a four part finale involving the Daleks
2. The plan was to finally do an episode set in a video arcade in Blackpool that would have involved Rogue
3. Jack Thorn would have co-written an episode set during the great fire of London
4. An episode set in a Manchester estate written by Sharma Angel-Walfall
5. A story set on a space station about trypophobia written by Lydia Adetunji

Plans for further War Between Series would have been

1. The War Between The Earth and the Moon...about a disgraced American president taking over a UNIT Moonbase and threatening the Earth with nuclear weapons

2. The War Between The Men and The Women

3. The War Between The Clever And The Not (honestly, I think he just wound up turning this into Tip Toe)

RTD admits the Disney+ deal was a disaster "from day one" and that he "f*cked it up", but thinks what he was able to put together was worthy of "two silver medals"

I would like to see this eventually, whether or not Big Finish adapt this audio, books or a comic series. The Doctor Who stuff at any rate, the War Between stuff, not so much.

Yeah, the Disney deal was ****ed, I think starting with the 60th anniversary stuff was dumb. Too much continuity and fan wank for a new audience. Should have been a fresh start with "Ncuti Gatwa"

RTD can have all the British writing accolades, BAFTA's etc. But from a Disney perspective that means nothing, big fish in a small pond. I think RTD thought he was bullet proof and that Disney renewal would be a given.

I don't see what new viewers Who brings to D+, most fans probably also enjoy Star Wars or the MCU (Disney quality may vary).

RTD reveals in his memoir the discussions about Doctor Who crossing over with Star Trek were very real, and he and Steven Moffat were both going to Los Angeles to work on a pitch. What killed it was working out how Disney and Paramount could work together on it.
