I haven't dabbled in the Lords of Shadow stuff much... but mostly because I'm pissed they rebooted things and its an alternate timeline. I get that Dracula only resurrects every 100 years with some exceptions.... but why do this?

That game is the only Lord of Shadows game that I played. I have never played any of the 3D Castlevania games.

My wife's working through the switch version ATM. Just beat the giant Medusa. (I heard her excitedly scream, "FINALLY I KILLED HER!")

This game has been kicking my a$$, and I am not enjoying it like I thought I would. I absolutely love Castlevania's Metroidvania style games. I own all of them, but none have frustrated me as much as this one. I am not a fan of super challenging metroidvania games where the goal is to explore, but you keep on dying and dying. It's giving me Hollow Knight vibes and I didn't like Hollow Knight at all. I am going to keep playing it and hopefully my opinion will change.

There seems to be pretty vast difficulty settings in there. As in, you can change the damage taken to almost nothing.

I always play my games on the default difficulty settings. There have only been a couple of times in my life where I felt compelled to play a game on easy mode. One of those times is the original 2003 Ninja Turtles console game. That Shredder fight at the end was brutal. Once you ran out of lives you had to play through all of the final levels again for another shot. I also had to play Viewtiful Joe on easy mode. I take pride in beating games and knowing that I beat it on an easier setting makes me not feel proud that I beat the game. I just now beat Medusa, so I am making progress.

The game is growing on me and I am enjoying it a lot more now. This game is a much different beast than the other Castlevania metroid style games. I am anxious to hear how other people feel about it.
