Cool

Dang apparently vintage is dying with the new movie figures out. Well today I scored a lot on ebay with 2 complete Baxter Stockman(s). I only needed one but the price was right and it had some other figs too. So as of today I have completed the goal of having all the '88 and '89 figures. Saaaaweet

Congratulations! I know what you mean about the vintage stuff on ebay, seems as though everyone's shelling out for the movie gear while all this great rare vintage stuff is surfacing and selling for just about nothing. I'm acutally seeing things I couldn't find and would have paid $50 for last year selling every week or so for less than $10. Insanity. I've been too busy working on my original collection to bother with the movie figs, my guess is that they pumped out enough of those things so that I'll be able to get most of them pretty cheaply in a year or so when the newness has faded.

yeah I'm one of those people selling stuff I have to sell it that low even though it's rare cause no one wants to pay for rare things it seems.
Oh well at this point I'm just trying to get ridd of them.

Thanks Crazy Cowboy. And thanks Putrescent too I'm sure Dion would agree that you might as well take advantage of the new figure buzz (I did get a couple movie figs though). Good deals suck...pause...NOT!

I could be wrong but I don't think the Jim Lee figures are real scarce. I also think that there are more than 2...I believe it's all the turtles except Leo and there is like a dragon something figure too. There are a currently a handful on ebay. Here's one.

You're too quick for me Putrescent.

The dragon figures are Savage Dragon figures, an Erik Larsen creation that Image comics published and which crossed over with TMNT while they were at Image.

I finally got my first vintage TMNT figure mint-in-package (that is, that I will be keeping in the package, unlike the hundreds I got as a kid). A co-worker recently moved and kindly sold me his Neo-Geo Pocket Color + games, as well as a Mutagen Man in beautiful condition, which is now hanging on my wall.

Congrats and welcome to the world of vintage!!

And that Mutagen Man fig is pretty cool...very good fig to start with...

My first carded figures were the set of 4 '88 turtles years ago...and then things got out of hand...

Thanks. Yeah, as I've said, I've had hundreds of carded figures... only they were carded for maybe 10 seconds at the most! Even today, I only keep figures I get double of, carded (except if I get any more vintage, regardless of if I already have a copy, I'll keep it carded).

With so many other things to pay for in life, I don't know when the next time I get another figure is.

Well, just take your time with it...carded figures are very fun to collect and you can get some great ones for just a few bucks on ebay so don't think you have to shell (no pun intended ) out major money to get carded figures...good luck!

My brother had all 4 Turtles, the lair, and a vehicle that shot something. I loved playing with them. Very much so. Another relative said "what an ugly thing" when seeing the Turtle toys for the first time. But I thought they were cool. Or as Mikey would say, I thought they were "mondo tubuloso".

Which Are the TRUE 1st 1988 Figures

Hi. I want to collect the true original 1988 figures. What came first the soft head figures, the hard head figures, the soft head figures with the fan club flier, or the figures with the pop up display?

Also, on another post in this forum I saw it says there was no soft head Foot Soldier. I have an issue of Toy Review which gives a price for a soft head Foot Soldier. Are they incorrect about its existence? It is only valued at $5 more than the hard head version. The guide also seems to be missing some figures that do have versions with fan club fliers as I saw them on myteefinestuff.com. If someone could tell me the original 1st issue version and packaging for each of the 1988 figures that would be the absolute best.

Thanks for any input,

Nate

Brace yourselves....Mattman is going vintage!!!!!!!

OK, so today i bought a couple loose vintage TMNTs: Toon Mike, Leo, Don, and a loose lot with over 34 figs!!! Including Toon Raph, Movie Star Don, Movie Star Leo, Ninja Action Turtles, etc!!! And all at less than $1 a figure!!!!

Now, here's what I am gonna collect:

Toon turtles
'88 Turtles
Movie Star Turtles
different characters, which means the whole series not including dumb variants (trek, movie monster, sports, transforming, etc.)

just a quick question on Scumbug that hopefully someone knows the answer to.

Was there ever a variant with a very dark grey boot as opposed to his green boot?

I got a Scumbug today with a grey boot. The figure is in excellent condition and the paint app's definitely look factory. It could be just a factory error but I just want to know if somebody knows the answer before I start trying to scratch underneath to see if there is any green under there.

Thanks.

I rarely check these things but since no one else answered I'll do it.

Splinter642 the very first Turtles are the soft heads with FCF inside the package and FCF ad printing on the back of the card.

I have never seen a soft head Foot Soldier or April. As far as I'm concerned they do not exist until I see both a carded and loose sample. Only the Turtles themselves came with the flyer. Sure some people claim they found bebop and a few others with flyers but if you notice the flyer is always pictured floating around loose inside the bubble. It's very easy to slip a flyer inside from the bottom slit of the bubble. The flyer's proper placement should be neatly folded in between the inner bubble and outer bubble right behind the accessories. There’s a little square groove in the inner bubble where it goes. There's no way you can get it in there without completely removing the bubble from the card. Most of them should also come with the ad printed on the backer card. So without these signs I do not believe they are authentic.

Jaffleman, yes Scumbug comes with a very dark grey/black boot and the regular green boot. If you see them carded the backer cards are different.

Ooh and on another vintage note, earlier this year I found another Genghis Frog variation. There are 2 different types of black belts! Cool, but of course it's so minor I'm probably the only person in the world who would find this interesting. I can post a pic it anyone wants to see.

Please do, I love variants and would be just as intrigued as you are. One of many goals is actually to collect all Genghis Frog variants being that there are so many.
