I love how we're comparing the new cartoon look to the Batman: TAS which was done almost a decade ago, if not more...

OY! I mean, it's hard. Sometimes the teachers seemed rude but they just were being brutally honest and it's really good for you to learn to accept the harsh reality of the real word. When you're an artist, your work is public and some people WILL hate it and they WILL say it. And you have to be able to take that either with a grain of salt or as a learning experience. But if you take it to heart then you're in the wrong business and I'm pretty sure the creators over there at Mirage have it all figured out. All of us here on this forum are TMNT fans. I don't think anyone here, no matter how negative, is trying to bring the new season down. I think at the very worst, we (those of us that are passionate as it seems I've coined us) don't want to see it ruined and watching the steps used to create this new season, AS IT'S HAPPENING, feels a bit like watching a plane crash...to some. Myself? I'm still hopeful, holding out for more info and of course, to check out the finished product. I liked Mystic's comparison piccie. That puts it in perspective. Of course, the 2K3 and FF pics are finished but still, even the FF picture leaves the new one in the dust. And what gets me is, those studies are concept art, not what we saw on the actual show. What we get once it's animated is more simplified. I'm not sure what that means for the already stripped model for the new season but I hope they beef it up a bit before it goes to animation because I don't think it could get much simpler. |

I have to say, I don't hate the design, myself. I just think they could just round it out a tiny bit more as far as the head goes. I hope it looks good in animation. That's all I care about as far as character designs go. And on the plus side of things, if they redesign the character, when the inevitable toy line comes out, we just won't have recycled parts from the movie toys or the F F toys.
Personally, I don't want to pass judgement on a series from character designs. I want to wait until more details about the story come out before I say that I do not like it. So far, i think they're going in the direction I wanted to see them go. Something similar to the 2K3 series that we all love while incorporating a couple changes to keep the toy companies and network happy. Though speaking of the design.... why does everything have to look like a Jeff Mastuza or whatever his name is desing. Even in the original 2k3 desgins there was a little of that.

Jeff Matsuda. It's a trend thing. Cartoons follow trends just like fashions.

Jeff Matsuda designed the humans for the new TMNT movie. Since we know they're trying to bridge the 2k3 and movie styles it isn't a big surprise for everything to take on a Jeff Matsuda appearance -- even though the design for the turtles themselves was more Kevin Munroe's doing.
Seriously, I don't notice anyone actually "judging" the series saying it's gonna be awful based on some preliminary character design. I for one think there's enough reason to think it should be as decent as FF was in its later run (which was actually quite good -- I liked it so much better than season five, which I am not ashamed to denounce as thoughtless and irrelevant wrt the rest of the 2k3 series).

Soon there will be a string of gas stations, inexpensive motels, restaurants that serve rapidly prepared food! Tire salons, automobile dealerships and wonderful, wonderful billboards reaching as far as the eye can see! My God... It'll be beautiful.

To be completely honest, I loved season 5 and think that the stupidest move was to put Fast Forward before it. I just loved the concept of it and the fact that it had a good plotline and featured some of the villains that we don't see in FF.

Might have saved the series who knows, in my opinion they could have aired any season when the movie was coming out and it'd have good ratings, but FF did well on it's own even without the movie hype. |

I honestly like it.
I wish they had rounded the head a little more (though I still feel it it less angular than the FF head). When comparing it to the other 2 original concept arts I do think that this one more closely matches what we will see in the series. 2K3 was a lot more detailed, FF only slightly so (and more rounded), I think what we see here is pretty much what we'll see on TV (though maybe less details like shading). I don't mind the pupils but I do prefer it without (especially since we have had 6 seasons without already, no need to change now). I hope Murphy posts more previews like this soon! But I'm guessing the first big push will be Toy Fair where we may see a preview of the new figures and learn more details of the overall series (and hopefully the subtitle if we don't know it by then). |

Is there going to be a subtitle? I hope not. It should just go back to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Well this is what Murphy posted withe the picture;
"A piece of character design art for the as-yet-untitled sub-branding of the TMNT 2008 cartoon season." So I'm guessing this will be subtitled. |

Less acute maybe, but not less angular. That's like saying that a hexagon is less angular than a triangle.

I think it looks pretty good. A bit pointy, but I'd get used to that quickly I imagine. I'm not a big fan of the big feet, but it didn't detract form the movie at all so I don't see why it'd make a difference here. I just have one question. Keep in mind I know nothing about animation. Why are sharp edges cheaper to produce than curves?

Or "April & Casey: The TMNT Story". ^_^ Not sure, but I think it would cost them more lawyer expenses to call it something that doesn't start with "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles".
