Toonzone reviews TMNT Season 6 DVD (Bad Review)

Wow, this review was beyond awful. As an aspiring writer I feel almost insulted by how bad it really is!

I actually thought it was so bad, I wrote a "letter to the editor". Hopefully the "editor" actually reads it..

Here it is,

I just wanted to submit an e-mail to inform you how awful the review for TMNT volume 6 was, written by "JerryvonKramer". First off, the review was a horrendously negative review, but that wasn't even the problem.. As much as I love the Turtles, I don't mind the fact that other people might not find them entertaining. The problem I do have however is how the writer treated the subject. He obviously had no information about the show going into the review, and didn't bother to pick up any information while watching the DVD. He knew very little about the characters, the locations, the names, and the whole universe in general. It's also apparent that he didn't watch more than the first couple episodes (out of sixteen), since that's all he makes reference to.. at one point the writer even says he couldn't tell which character was which! Obviously if the writer took the time to watch all 16 episodes even someone with his obvious intelligence problem could have picked up on which character was which. Another problem I had with the review is that the writer kept comparing the Turtles to irreverent cartoons such as Thundercats. Obviously the writer is a big fan of the Thundercats (as he constantly reminded us), but does he need to bring them up every few sentences? It has absolutely no place in a review of the TMNT.

I've been coming to your website for a long time now, and I mostly enjoy all my visits, but in the future I hope that you can find a writer who actually takes the time and effort to put together a knowledgeable review as opposed to something that reads like it was written by a middle school student with a personal vendetta. Thank you for your time.

Finally decided to read the whole thing and saw the dumbass post this:

First, there are the four turtles themselves. Despite the claim in the theme music that "Leonardo leads, Donatello does machines ... Raphael is rude ... and Michelangelo is a party dude", there is very little to distinguish them by voice or personality. The characters are defined almost purely by their actions, and there's not much difference even there. So, for example, Leonardo is more likely to be the one training hard while Michelangelo is more likely to be slacking off playing on a video game. But while he is training, Leonardo is indistinguishable from the other turtles; likewise with Michelangelo on the games machine. They will both use the words "whoa", "dude" and "mondo" a lot; they are both fairly stupid when speaking to Splinter and unusually perceptive when dealing with adversaries. And, perhaps most importantly of all, they both have annoying unrealistically upbeat "surf-dude" voices. It is too much to take.

Is he serious?

It was just a review done by someone with no attachment to the series, it makes me wonder if he ever watched it in the 80s and 90s. He says he did but I doubt he would have reviewed it that way if he had. I wish they would choose reviewers on interest, I mean not to be biased but you can't review something from that long ago unless you understand its history and I didn't get that vibe at all from this reviewer. He definitely just seemed to want to trash something.

Does TZ allow reviews from just anyone? that guy only registered in November has 100 posts where most are all made in the DC/Batman forum..

Toon Zone is a big site its odd they'd just publish any review like that.. but I guess as big the site is that review shouldn't really be influential at all.

Has anyone thought that you're giving him what he wants just by keeping the topic of his joke of a review fresh? He seems to me one of those who think ripping apart anything is 'journalistic integrity'. And, by not ignoring him and his hidden agenda, he gets the attention he wants. Just a thought...

It goes without saying that I consider Toon Zone to be curtain statement hacks. Hack reviewers, hack fans, hack animation "authorities", and there hands are clasped so tightly on WB and Disney's arses that they cant talk out of the very arses they have for heads without sounding like arses. They know virtually nothing about variety, and care less for any series that isnt oscar-worthy, to take any review as credible is like saying you beleive Osama Bin Laden took a photo with Bert from Sesame Street

That said, most of the review department steadily has improved over the years, and, whilst this is absolutely RIGHT about the sixth season of the original series, in true "Hack Zone" fashion, he uses that one season to pretty much definethe whole series.

Season six is a waste of time and the show realizing it's mortality. The voice actors are set in their ways, and Wise was begging to do something different. The sole highlights of the season are the first three episodes, with another from the fifth season also present to make up four worthy additions...but you're better off counting "Rock Around the Block" as season five's finale and skipping to season seven

Season six may not be the best but I'd hardly call it a waste of time, I think that's being a little to harsh.
There are allot of good moments and characters return in this season something that doesn't happen often in the series.
Not to mention the art style in these episodes is a hell of allot better than what we had been getting from the weekday afternoon episodes.

Hell, I'd take their eletism over this sort of snotty snarfing anyday of the week. I'd guess this guy didn't bring up any points or anything to suppliment his argument, and is just pooing on an old cartoon that's popular for argument sake. And he clearly has a minus minded agenda that motivates a bad review like that.

Admittedly, this one is among my least favorite seasons. Not lame/bad, just not very exciting. That's why I'm extra pissed re: the bare-bones release. But... uhm...

People act like they spend 100 dollars on these DVDs. I must be a millionaire then because I can afford all the DVDs that come out. The DVDs are 10 dollars, 11 with tax in the great state of CA. People act like it's crippling to their budget if they buy one 10 dollar DVD they don't like. Unless your 10 and your parents give you an allowance every week of 2 dollars and you have to save up for a month to be able to afford it I fail to see the issue. 10 dollars is about 1 hours pay at a retail job. So you don't need to be a lawyer to be able to buy all the turtles releases. I have them all and there was awhile there where I was brushing my teeth in the bathroom at Starbucks.

Now why I bothered to bring this up is I get sick of people bitching about the DVDs.

"There's no extras why did I buy it"
Look at anime DVDs their 25 dollars for 4 episodes and no extras.

"Should I get it I don't know"
It's 10 dollars buy the god damn DVD and quit whining. It cost 5 dollars to rent it. If you rent it and like it then go and buy it now you've spent 15 bucks.

"It's a waste of money there's only 4 good episodes"
You paid 15 for the first releases of the 2K3 DVDs and they only had 4 episodes on them so technically your getting quite a deal here.

Season 6 was overall better than Season 5 in my opinion. But I suppose it doesn't really matter, the show had good and bad episodes in every season.

Exactly, it's pretty much this way with everything in life not every cartoon episode of your favorite show is gonna be good, not ever cd from your fave band is gonna be good, etc.

Oh well we can't all like the same things but this season is the start of the series change for me and when I really started to like it again.
Yes indeedy doo, We have Aprils aunt who comes back and is a big tv star now, Kerma is back with more "little" problems, and prof. sofo is back and his old place is diserted.
So there is some continuation going on in the old toon but you've really got to look for it, I think most people hate these characters so they really don't give a crap either way.

Actually, the newest DVD is 15 bucks at Wal-Mart. The last one was $20 and the one before that $25.

Well I bought mine off Amazon and it was 10 bucks. I bought it with something else and got free shipping. At Best Buy their like 10 as well I believe. The more expensive ones are the ones with special packaging or tons of episodes on them. You buy that and hate it that I can understand but most of the releases were 10 bucks.

These episodes are all on Youtube so anyone buys the DVD and hates it only has them self to blame for not watching the episodes first.

I got both Seasons 4 and 5 for $17 and Season 6 for $15 at Wal-Mart and Volumes 1-6 were all $10 at Wal-Mart also.
