Do you think the franchise will end in the next 50-70 years?

Just Opinion, NOT Fact.

I do, but not in our hearts ...

Seriously, though. I could see it lasting another 20 however.

Depends on who gets creative control of it after Peter Laird's done with it and how they treat it. Also it depends on the perception the public has toward TMNT after the games this year and the movie in a couple of years.

Doesn't really matter to me. I know I won't be around in that amount of time.

Probably not. I honestly am a bit surprised it made it into the 21rst century. After the OT ended, I did not know how much longer it would be around.

I think it'll be around for a good while. I don't know how long, but hey, as long as it keeps the kids entertained everyone will be happy. Yeah?

No. They can only make so many cartoons before it gets old. The only thing that would probably keep it alive that long is maybe having the comics go on and on and on. But I don't see the franchise lasting that long.

But, of course, it will always be in our hearts.

But lok at how many times Batman has been animatred since the '60s. Two Superfriends shows. Then a Batman show from that same era. Then there's four Batman cartoons that have come out within the past two decades (more if you separate the TAS stuff out by the title changes) and his co-starring role in the Justice League stuff. Each universe had a different take on the Batman mythos, too.

Sure, the TMNT aren't nearly as popular as Batman, but I wouldn't be surprised if I saw another TMNT show hit TV in another 5 to 10 years. Less if this new movie does well enough.

Oh, I don't know. Plenty of comic book figures from the '40s are still going strong, despite lulls in popularity. It's hard to say what, if any, post-1980s properties will have that kind of longevity, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some. I can imagine Transformers still kicking in fifty years, since it has a huge, multi-generational fanbase and can constantly reinvent itself and its characters.

For Turtles? A bit more difficult, but it's proved it can be constantly renewed for each new generation of kids. Get a sense of respect for the comics going (possibly via the new movie), and you give it a solid backbone to hold itself up between renewals. That's essentially the formula of all the classic DC figures, so I could see it hanging around.

I'm with Cipher on this. If you know anything about marketing to children, you'll know that the same basic principals will market well to virtually every generation of child. Will it need to be updated? Sure. But it is easy to repaint a house and sell it to the next guy.

The Turtles are an "ever-green" property. They will be around to be remarketed and resold as long as there is someone with the faith and the capital to "repaint the house".

Too difficult to know.

Too difficult to know. We don't know how the world will look so many years from now.

It is not directly related with the concept of Turtles but related with the platform which is chosen to keep it popular.
Cartoons and toys are the best way i guess.
but i believe those will not be the type we fans would like.

For me i look at MOTU, Bravestarr, Biker Mice From Mars, G1 Transformers, a few episodes of Toxic Crusaders... and some other. The music in their soundtracks.... They all seem awesome. Not just cause that i grew up with them. Their plots are indeed better than today's cartoons.

The turtles may be around in that future. But we may hate them the way they will be.

I think all the franchises from now will be gone in 50 years, Star Wars included. All the stuff I have accumulated will probably be worthless, I can`t see people in 2060 giving a toss about this stuff. It doesn`t matter though I collect for me and who knows I could be wrong.

It's all up to the next generation. We shouldn't even be concerned, since we'll be dead by then.

Besides, who would want to be a 92-year-old with a diaper on watching an episode on DVD (or whatever new concept device for theater they come up with in the future)?

As long as kids and adults alike still watch them, read about them, or play the games, we shouldn't even be worried.

Well not THAT far ahead, but I can still see myself interested in TMNT when I'm 50 or 60.

There are people who are fans of properties till the day they die.

Yeah, but you gotta wonder if they're only kidding themselves. Some people are just too unwilling to let go and move on when a certain entertainment value of their lives has run its course.

Because of that, they become emotionally (and definitely mentally) attached and try to keep it alive by any means necessary.

I don't see what's wrong with loving a franchise like the TMNT your whole life (as long as you, like, love other things too--maybe some people)!

The Turtles can keep getting reinvented each generation. But the ball is kind of in Laird's court.

True enough, but Batman, Superman, and Spider-man as well as other comic book properties have moved on from the creator being the primary driving force of the comic. Maybe it's time for Peter to pass the torch and do something new creatively.

2060 is 51 years from now. 51 years ago is 1958. Some of todays major franchises are older than that.
