The 2k3 cartoon is still on the air and is the version most familiar with kids right now, there will not be a six year blackout between cartoons like the OT and 2k3.

And as of now, the only TMNT cartoon that Nick has the rights to is the new toon, and after paying 60 million for the property, they will probably throw the cartoon into heavy rotation with their other cartoons, like Spongebob and Fairly Oddparents. Just because they say they will "focus on the 80s toon turtles" doesn't mean they won't use characters/storys from other parts of TMNT, why wouldn't they? Kids don't care about the integrity of the individual turtleverses, and certainly not the suits that now run TMNT.

I would like to see something completely different as well, but the OT style isn't it.

The new show isn't due until 2012, we're going to wait for a long time before we hear anything.

But...2009 is pretty much over.

Its only a 3 year wait. And we'll likely see some previews of the new show before it airs.

Which is really my point. That's nine years from the start of 2k3... even if a 10 year old started off watching 2k3, they'd be 19 by the time the Nickelodeon thing rolls around. 19 year olds aren't even on the radar when network$ plan their toons.

If anything ends up in there from the 2k3 cartoon, it'll be cherry picked but I can absolutely, positively promise you it will be a complete reboot. It'll either 1) Be a completely new universe that mostly just resembles the Fred Wolf cartoon, or 2) Be ambiguously a continuation of the Fred Wolf cartoon universe. I'm honestly not sure which way I think it will lean. I think the former, but I have nothing to base it on.

I'm pretty sure there were 10 year olds watching the ninja turtles after the year 2003 and even 10 year olds watching them now.

I automatically assumed everything would be a reboot, as a new animated turtle universe.

Obviously not enough to sustain the show.

Chances are slim and none that it'll be anything but that. Making it a continuation of anything would put too much pressure on the writers to familliarize themselves with a continuity so as not to contradict it. An hommage like Superman Returns or even TMNT? I could see that, but wouldn't count on it.

Yeah, agreed on that. It may not have been the phenomenon that the old cartoon was, but it definitely had a good run.

I think by today's standards, the New Toon dominated. 7 years is a long time, especially when you remember the first episode by a huge margin.

My only point is that however successful it may have been to start with, the run tapered off. The interest waned, the ratings dropped and it was cancelled. Folks outgrew it, same as they did the original cartoon.

It's not rocket science, folks.

It's not even science. Nor religion or language.

It's just entertainment.
