I'm very excited and very sad at the same time. Yay the finale is today and its going to be big. But wait, damn! Its the series finale!

Still, can't wait for 2 hours, 21 minutes and 51 seconds to be over.

So wait...Darkseid's an entity? That's what I get for watching a series finale of a show I've not watched for about 2 seasons.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! AWESOME!!! I geeked out at the ending. It was how I pictured it would end, except I pictured him flying to the screen instead.

I will indeed miss this show. Superman is definitely the worlds greatest superhero.

Personally, I just wanted another Superman show. I don't think I could have managed to stare at Clark Kent for 10 years even if I had tried.

This is one pop-culture phenomenon that passed me by as well. Of course, I can't really say I jumped on at any point. I got a little bit excited last year at the prospect of Superman getting into an all-out brawl with an awesome looking Doomsday monster... but I guess I never actually bothered to tune in and see what happened.

Doomsday looked like a drooling retard. The fight only lasted a minute or two and was reminiscent of a Saban production.

That's kinda the sense I got from the previews everytime it looked like they were trying to bring in a new superhero or super villain.

To be honest the concept of how the Kents raised Clark to become Superman intrigued me...but eventually work and the like kept me from watching Smallville anymore.

Well Smallville is over and I loved the ending!

Spoiler:

Sure we didn't see a real clear show of him in full costume but to me that doesn't really matter. He wore the costume, he saved the day!

It was cool to see Lex again and Pa Kent (who I guess was either a ghost or some avatar Jor El made).... and I loved it that Aaron Ashmore returned as Jimmy! That was a huge surprise! Never expected that little boy from the funeral to look exactly like his brother. *lol*

Too bad they never named Chloe and Ollie's son. Im thinking it was Roy but for all I know it could be Conner. Either way the shirt he had on was Steel!

But I wonder why it took Lois and Clark another 7 years to marry? That was strange.

I also wonder who voiced Darkseid?

They probably had them marry later on out of respect to continuity which they have strayed from in the past. Lois and Clark didn't marry until well into his Superman career and not at the beginning of it as life happens sometimes...especially when you are a superhero.

A lot of people complain about the costumes or characters and how little the battles are or whatever the case may be. I give the show a lot of credit for bringing to life these characters in any form as I never thought I'd see a live action doomsday, booster gold, green arrow, darkseid (they did show him in a smoke and mirrors way), martian headhunter, hawkman, star girl, maxima, dr fate, etc, etc, etc. These characters probably will never get their own time in a movie so it's great to see the creators of the show at least try to fit them in somewhere. A cameo by Bruce Wayne would have been nice at some point. I'm surprised they never tried that since Oliver is also a billionaire so it would have been easy to find a way to put him on as a guest even if not as Batman.

The show also has a TV budget. You can only do so much with so little. I think they did the best with what they had. There were some stupid stories, even less stimulating seasons but the episodes that were good, were really good. This show first aired 10 years ago during my junior year of college. I've been able to pinpoint certain events in my life by them also happening the same time on the show ranging from major break-ups, to deaths, to engagements and weddings. I will truly miss this show even if it wasn't always at its best. Great ending in my opinion.

I really appreciated that they made Lex President. When Smallville first premiered, that was the status quoe for the character in the comics at the time and they hinted at it strongly in early episodes.

I'm a little bugged they had Lex lose all his memories of his seven years in Smallville...felt like they were trying too hard to stay in line with the status quoe, but I'll forgive it because Lex losing all he learned due to how he lived his life was a great contrast to how Clark's growth and experiance shaped him into the hero he was born to be[

And, yes, Clark wears the suit but is reduced to a long-distance spec makes me think the producers didnt trust the budget to showcase a full on view of "tights and flights"....or they didnt want to take away from the experiance of seeing Superman do all of those theatrics in theatres.

The mighty planet Apokolyps being pushed to the side in the last five minutes also bugged me. Way too easy and worse than the fight with Bloomesday in season eight...but when you only have ten minutes left, what do ya do? This really could have done with a third hour like BSG had.

But the final scene was sheer magic, the arrangement of the Williams love theme followed by the Superman march reminded me of the great journey we had been on for ten years

I expected that anyway considering that only the top half of the costume was shown in the fortress.

I liked the idea of costumed Clark/Superman being vague in that if Superman was real he'd probably not stick around long enough for someone to get an in-depth still-life analysis of how he looks, just the basics of his red and blue outfit.

The comic sketch of Supes at the end gave me the impression that the artist has had little detail to reference by. Then again Clark's picture looked so much like Clark.

I'm sad this show has finished.

Then again there is so much potential for the same production team to do something else with another DC universe character. The end of Smallville has left a large gap that I don't even think the possibly canned Wonderwoman can fill.

They had to honor their own continuity, at least. It would be a pathetically lame retcon if they didn't since Ryan said Lex was destined for The Oval Office several seasons ago.

That was a story-writing dilemma. On the one hand, to bring Lex back would be to put Clark's secret in immediate jeapordy. Having his illegitimate little sister wipe his memory as her parting gift was the easiest option to alleviate that threat without saying that Lex would never be a problem again.

But NSR, if they have the marriage happen later to respect continuity....why have Lois know Clark is Superman...before he's really Superman?

I read the reason for the way they handled the suit and Clark wearing it was contractual.

Apparently they were not allowed to show Welling wearing the suit. Or am I way off base?

Heck, didn't this Clark pretty much experience every significant moment in Superman's life before he was really Superman?

ROFL, true. By the time this season arrived I wondered "My, Clark's Superman life is going to be fairly quiet" even Lex isnt a threat in the future without any of his memories, plus we had a gurantee from Doctor Fate Clark would ultimatley defeat him once he steps out of line.

I guess I kinda got all my guesses right in a way

I enjoyed the finale. I think it still hasnt hit me that this show is over. I'll probably feel it next year.

As for the finale itself, I think they did alot of things right and one tremendous thing wrong. Clark learning to fly, wearing the suit, and being the inspiration that people needed to overcome the darkness was fantastic. Lex returning was great, as was the nod to Lexcorp. I like how with all the hype of Rosenbaum returning, they still remained focused on Clark and Lex returning was a small subplot. The Darkside "fight" was pretty much what I've come to expect from Smallville lately so I wasnt really disappointed.

But by far the absolute worst thing about the finale was wiping Lex's memories. I mean, all of them. Seriously, if we're going the mind-wipe route, why not just get rid of his knowledge of Clark's secret? Its not impossible. In fact, they did that to Chloe in season 8 when Clark brought her to Jor-El. But to have Lex forget everything is throwing 60 percent of the shows mythology in the trash. In a way, this is kind of a redemption for Lex. He has no traumatic history anymore. He has a fresh start. He's not even Lex anymore, just an empty vessel. F*cking brutal way for his story to end. I'd rather of him not come back at all if this is how they were going to end it.

I've tried to remedy this by telling myself that it was part of Clark's journey to watch and understand the value of family, and since this is Clark's POV, its all part of his trials. But no... I know better. It's just lack of faith in their own mythology and playing it safe.

...

Anyways, despite that rant, I totally did love the finale. If it wasnt for the mind-wipe, I'd give it a 10/10.

Ok, I know this isn't season 10 related...but it is Smallville related: Is their an unaired pilot, and where is it? I thought the Season 1 set I had would have it...but I don't see it.

A friend of mine downloaded it a long time ago. It was just the pilot ep fully polished, as it is today, with a different actress playing Martha. I still wonder how such a thing leaked onto the internet.
