Not much, but it's still info.
Where did you hear about this?

EDIT:

OMG, I think its actually going to be called NINJA TURTLES! Read. What's this about an alien planet? Oh, oh......Here's more info:

http://blog.viacom.com/2012/03/scene...odeon-upfront/

This is what it says:

Quote:
After an earth-rattling sizzle reel of his greatest hits – from The Rock to Pearl Harbor to the Transformers trilogy – Michael Bay gave the crowd a first look at the previsualization – filmmaker speak for a 3D, digitally animated storyboard – for Ninja Turtles, Paramount Pictures’ live-action reinvention of the franchise set to hit theaters next year. “We want this film to have the impact of a Transformers one,” said Bay. If the stunning previs is any indication, Bay is making good progress against that lofty goal in his role as producer. Another tidbit he offered up is that the Turtles origin story has been updated, from the decidedly 80s radioactive waste accident to an alien planet.

Interesting. I wonder what the origin will be this time.

Alien planet? Could that mean Utroms are responsible?

My guess is that they are warriors from another planet engaged in a century long battle with their enemies...

Gah, it sounds like Transformers.

The alien planet worries me, but if it was that, I wouldn't mind.

You know, it's funny, I heard a rumor awhile back that said that someone saw the concept art for the turtles for this movie that said one of them had a futuristic looking gun. With this recent news, it makes me wonder if that's coming true since they are properly going to another planet. I hope we get to see an adaption of the "Turtles in Space" storyline in this new film series.

Maybe, but The Turtleoids were at least ET Turtles.

I'm debating changing Shredder-cons to Triceratons though....

Well... Utroms come from an alien world and it's their waste that originally mutated the Turtles. I guess some greater emphasis on their world to start with wouldn't be completely apocryphal.

Something tells me it's a setup for Krang, though. You know how these things work... everything is connected and such.

It'd be pretty cool if the turtles were dumped on earth as some kind of utrom experiment. Assuming they didn't begin mutation until they were abandoned.

I'm not gonna hate on it. IDW totally redid the origin and that turned out great.

"Alien planet" on its own I will admit immediately made me go WTF but there are a lot of things sensible that could be worked into/out of that.

That the first bit of real news on the shooting script we get is "alien planet," though, seems to torpedo the hope that they'd begin things fairly down-to-earth.

But it might just turn out to be a small thing. Like, think the Jor-El on Krypton beginning to Superman: The Movie.

Interesting they'd drop about the alien planet. It would make for some interesting pacing if they went there, throw in some aliens (Utrom, Triceraton) and a ninja battle with Shredder in the same movie. The tone shift can be tricky but not impossible. Unless they don't opt for the latter, of course, but with a new revamp film, I can't see it without Shredder playing some role.

"Turtles In Space," eh? Well, we're due for a Triceraton movie appearance and the 2003 series ensured modern audiences should be able to split the difference between Krang and the Utroms. Or, maybe, we'll finally get the 'Secret of the Ooze' premise that was meant to be done, but couldn't be done in '91 for reasons that has since been discussed.

Edit: In case we do get the "Turtles = aliens" plot treatment, as some are inferring, hoo boy. If so, expect a lot more Star Wars references. Ugh. I won't be looking forward to that, and I was an ex-Star Wars fanboy.

I just hope the designs are not overdone for the turtles. I wouldn't mind if they looked something like this pic:

I know I'm gonna get a "But the Turtles aren't *insert hero here*" response but how much was Spider-man's origin changed for his movie? Or Batman's? How about Superman? The Turtles also have an "iconic" or at least really simple and straight forward origin story. Why does it need to be made complicated and convoluted?

Funny you should mention IDW, Nines, because I'm not 100% thrilled with the reworking of the origin. I think reincarnation muddies the waters and over complicates things. Besides, shouldn't there other "pasts lives" for Yoshi and his sons, or did they die, and then wake up as a rat and 4 turtles? I don't think reincarnation works that way... though to be fair, I don't really know how it works.

If they turn the Turtles into aliens, it's sort of like Bruce Wayne's parents dying of cancer instead of being shot. I'm gonna guess that it's not a direct "the Turtles are aliens" thing, though.

Me too. They can't be that crazy.

But can we expect a TMNT movie where April and Casey get more focus than the Turtles?
