I completely agree with Peter about what his problem with the idea is.

Personally if there are still ONLY FOUR Turtles (as in there planet as been destroyed) and Splinter is added in a believable fashion I would be willing to at least give the alien idea a shot.

On the plus side, if any future versions of Slash appear and refer to them as "cousins," he may not be that far off from the truth, after all. Heh.

Anyway, Film School Rejects has opined about this, if anyone is interested:

And hopefully someone will put Lawson's spaceship in the film, because it looks neat and is made of Turtle meat... Oh, wait, does that mean we now can connect them to Gamera?

Okay, changed my mind -- this is the greatest idea, evah.

Not that it really matters, but I always look to Movie Bob Chipman for his film opinion. Here's his blog on the Michael Bay/ Alien Turtles fiasco.

He got paid very well to do what probably amounted to 8 hours of "labor". He doesn't really even care about TMNT, I've heard him say it himself.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, it was just a job to him, but this "raping our childhood" thing is just stupid.

Its really not that hard to make a decent Turtle movie.
That... is not City at War. At all.

That'd be an even bigger hackjob of an adaption than the 4kids version of CaW.

You guys would know this better than I would, but didn't Eastman and Laird consider a fifth Turtle called Kirby, back in the mid-to-late 90's? If Bay or someone ever wanted to, with this space turtle idea, throw him in Silver Surfer or Fantastic Four imagery and -- bam -- the Jack Kirby homage he was meant to be.

Anyway, the other real reason for the post, as I wasn't able to put this in my previous one:

Enjoy Mike Nelson doing what he does best.

So because Gammera was a space turtle? I think I'm missing the point....although you can never go wrong with MST3K.

However, my main concern (if this alien business happens to be "worst case scenario") is what's Splinter's deal? Does there just so happen to be a race of Rat people living on a sister planet?
Wouldn't all of that drastically change to concept of "Teenage MUTANT Ninja Turtles", though? TO make them anything other than mutants is blasphemy.

In which case, he has a long way to go to catch up with Jimmy Carter. Just kidding... mostly. (Seriously, though, can anyone imagine modern-day Simpsons making the same assertion, as they did in the mid-90's? Wow.)

As for Jester's comment, what, you expected Earth logic with any of this? Heh. Meanwhile, I'm going to go off and make up some "My Favorite Martian Turtle" puns.

(I think I'm enjoying this lulz too much. Help me....)

So, new topic, anyone secretly hoping to get Movie Utrom Shredder out of this? Because if we get space turtles, and he isn't there in some form..., cue new outrage.

HISTORY's greatest monster? Wow. You're worse than TMB at hyperbole. Or should I say better?

Someone out there, please make a Kony-inspired Michael Bay poster: Bay front and center; Osama bin Laden and Hitler behind him.

Indeed. Seriously? Michael Bay > Hitler? Has this discussion really degenerated to this point?

There are so many different incarnations of TMNT. None of them completely match up with each other e.g. the cartoon and movie origin of splinter. When do we decide it's too much of a stretch.

That's why the "Mutant" is no longer a part of the title. The new film is called NINJA TURTLES.

Folks, it's an ironic send-up of the Kony poster, which itself is a bad joke: War propaganda to promote the invasion Africa on the grounds of "humanitarianism."

The more you understand we're being tricked in to another war, the more you realize just how much we can't afford another one.

Yeah, because Bay being associated with a movie that might be turning the Tmnt into ''aliens'' put's him into the same group of guys like Hitler and Bin Laden. You're an idiot.
