I think there were tanks in the reboot...can't remember.

To add to the "This previous Turtle person said..." here's Rob Paulsen's response to a person asking via Facebook:

If it sucks, it'll go away fast. If it's great, there'll be a couple more. My focus currently is doing the best job I can on Nick's TMNT which I'm sure will have its detractors too. That's showbiz.

Well, I feel like it is pretty important.

Quote:
The Turtles live on the outskirts of civilization and sure, they wish they could integrate with regular humans, but here is the big difference between them and the X-Men: they were turtles to begin with. They never, not in a million years, would have had an opportunity to live a normal human life. Any Mutant in the Marvel Universe had that. They could have grown up normal, gone to school, had girlfriends, all of that stuff, except a mutation happened. Because of that mutation, they can never live a normal life and are forever outcasts.
I think it actually works the opposite way. The Turtles were born outsiders, freaks, since the first minute they were mutated and provided with the ability of thinking. If they were aliens and they knew it, even if they'd never been in their home planet, they'd still have hope to be a part of society (if their planet still existed) or would have something to miss (if their planet or their people were extinguished). In any case, it'd be a different scenario.

Just when I think he actually knows what he's talking about concerning the comics,

Quote:
There is the alien Krang, a seminal villain, and his entire race, the Utroms.
Face palm.

He also lumps the Archie books in with Mirage.

I think I'll just leave it at: that was pretty painful to read. It's like he was trying so hard to speak like he understood all of these aspects he clearly had no idea about beyond probably some cursory Wikipedia or Googling prior to writing the drivel.

It seems Bay dropped this alien Turtles stuff to generate buzz for a movie that's a year out. Both people who are hating on the alien idea and not really hardcore Turtles fans will want to see the trailer out of curiosity.

Kevin Eastman, on Facebook:

Hey Guys, Sorry to have been away for so long--completely swamped with work--but it is some pretty exciting stuff. I had been invited to check out the TMNT film development by my friend Scott Mednick over the years, and a while back had a full look behind the curtian at what writers Appelbaum and Nemec, director Liebesman, and producer Bay are doing--and trust me--it IS AWESOME. I'm officially on board, and will share more as I'm allowed... thanks all!

Honestly I don't trust Eastman. He always allows changes to the TMNT franchise like Venus in Next Mutation, reincarnation in IDW, and has no problem with Fred Wolf characters like Krang/Bebop/Rocksteady.

Eastman probably approves of them being aliens.

I don't think he approves of them being aliens... he's just not a guy that's going to push against the grain.

Which just goes to show he's more open to creative new ideas than you closed-minded virgins are.

Stan Lee was perfectly ok with "One More Day", you know, the story where Peter Parker sold his marriage to Marvel's version of SATAN? It didnt harm the Spider-Man books the way everyone at the time thought it would...granted I think there s*it and written by lazy hacks, but most of the fanbase just shrugged their shoulders, got on with life, and kept enjoying the book. The franchise is celebrating it's 50th anniversary...and you know what? The Spider-Marraige (which still exists in the newspaper strips written by Stan himself) is celebrating it's 25th anniversary too. If you know where to look, everything is still the same as it's always been and everything will survive.

One movie with a new idea isnt going to kill the TMNT franchise dead. Bayformers, as bad as it is, has only made the Transformers franchise STRONGER in creativity and sales, noone can deny this, so quit crying that Hollywood came and took your childhood away, it's a shallow cliche of the internet.

I also don't see what your point is when you say "But..but Eastman was FINE with Krang, Rocksteady and Bebop"...considering all of those characters are almost universally loved by TMNT fans, casual and hardcore alike

The point is that all of those characters are crap now and were crap then, kept alive today only by blind nostalgia of what was once entertaining when we were 5 years old.

75% agreement! The other 25% is giving IDW the benefit of the doubt with General Krang - so far he's pretty cool. But I totally agree that without re imagining the character, he's sh*t.

Yeah, Not a single person likes the concept of the Turtles, being mutants, being taken on by much more powerful mutants that they have to outsmart because they don't stand a chance fighting them head-on. Not a single person is into that.

It's not an un-sound concept, but you're leaving out the part about them all of said characters being completely inept and incompetant. As intentionally as consistently, and always for laughs. The concept only holds water if the "more powerful mutants" are actually a credible threat.

I agree with this, but it depends on when you were first exposed to TMNT and in what capacity. To me, growing up, TMNT was not a comic book. I didn't even know the comics existed until the early 2000s. I grew up with the original cartoon, so that was my first exposure to it. So for me, the Turtles weren't comic book characters, they were cartoon characters. Same with Spider-Man, too, although I was aware of the comics much earlier as appose to Turtles. I remember watching the first film as a five year old kid who was obsessed with the TMNT cartoon and toys, and being completely gutted to see that Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady weren't in the film.

Now, I’m very much into the TMNT comics and I heavily appreciate them for what they are, and I can see that, when all is said and done, they are better than the original toon. I still have a fond place for the cartoon, though, and there are some things about it that I genuinly like. So, to me at least, TMNT is still the Fred Wolf cartoons first and foremost, with the comics coming a close second. It’s all about perspective.

I'll totally admit that 99/100 times the concept was executed poorly or completely forgotten in regards to Bebop and Rocksteady. However, the characters themselves are actually pretty neat and I don't think they should be put to bed forever just because they were slapstick fodder in the OT. If someone can do 'em right, then I'd love to see it!

Is that what you truly think? Any character is generally good in the hands
of good writers.

Before Ch'rell existed, Krang was the closest thing to an evil brain similar to the Utroms. I don't see why an evil alien brain isn't appealing to people.

Agreed. They wouldn't have to be portrayed as bumbling fools.

Fixed that for ya

If the characters were "crap" they wouldnt have been a runaway success. Reality, as it normally does, proves you wrong as they remain firmly entrenched in popular culture and in the minds of so many fans entertained by them. You can't accept this for one reason...you're a stubborn comics loyalist who beleives the original vision should be the only one out there and can't stand that a commercial version of an urban cult hit was what made it a success. In short, you're an elitist dumbf*ck.

"Oh me oh my, people above five still think the old cartoon is FAR more entertaining and relevant than the dry humorless overrated black-and-white killathon comics I read, I can't be the closed-minded minority, THEY must be blind, waahhhh"

Such a mentality can only be had by a stubborn little man-child who can't accept the old show's influence and fans far outweigh him and his niche comic book clan

Come back when you accept reality moron.

A vast majority disagrees with you.

OT Krang>The Utroms>General Krang.
