The 4kids cartoon definitely had to be successful enough to run for 7 seasons, period. 4kids was funding it out of their own pocket, there's no reason they would have kept it airing beyond 2-3 seasons if it wasn't doing well.

Don't forget it had 26 episode seasons, unlike most cartoons which only had 13 episode seasons.

The 4kids TMNT series was the longest lasting American action cartoon in the 2000's. Other than Spongebob, I can't think of any other cartoon that made 157 episodes and a movie in the 2000's decade.

Even if you count Justice League/Unlimited together, it didn't even come close.

How long it was on the air has no bearing on cultural impact.

2k3 was on the air for so long because it was the only half decent thing on an awful lineup.

I liked the Cramp Twins. More people at my school talked about them than ninja turtles... Like no one watched ninja turtles. It wasn't acknowledged at all. Pretty much no one really even watched foxbox/4kids either when I asked around years ago.

I would be like, "Hey, how about that Ultimate Muscle?"

Friend, "What the hell is that?"

To be frank, the only people I have ever encountered who ever spoke of the turtles were adults who watched the older show.

Heh, it really did carry that whole programming block, didn't it?

I seem to remember the original "Fox Box" lineup being a little stronger than that we were left with by the CW4Kids era. Kirby, Sonic X, and Ultimate Muscle weren't exactly great shows as far as I can tell, but they were probably oodles of degrees better than the kind of stuff that was being shown nearly a decade later. TMNT2k3 was also one of the few shows in that lineup that wasn't some poorly dubbed anime or otherwise imported production.

Have to agree with you there. No wonder 4Kids filed for bankruptcy a while after dropping TMNT.

No. 4kids started going bankrupt because they lost the license to dub Pokemon.

The reason it took them so long is because they had saved up enough Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh money during their heyday to allow them to exist a few more years afterward.

If 4kids still had Pokemon to this day, they probably wouldn't be bankrupt right now.

Yep, they sure did. It has begun. I commented though that there's absolutely no reason to replace Cowabunga. Really, no good reason.

I was initially put-off by Mikey's no catch-phrase, but it's grown on me. Keeps the spirit of cowabunga while introducing something new to the TMNT franchise.

BOOYAKASHA!
