I didn't see last week's video. So, what was the theme of this week's video?

I find them to be more casual fans than anything else. I'm more casual than they probably are, since I'm more versed when it comes to the OT series.

So you guys think that a dude (Mike) with hundreds of TMNT figures, many of them obscure, some still with the original package, would be considered "casual?" Jesus the standards on this forum are just mind-blowing to me. Even if these guys had masters degrees in TMNT from TMNT University, they still probably wouldn't live up to spitfire's expectations. I guess you have to be in the millionth percentile to be able to make respectable fan videos.

Oh, and how dare they mix up the name of one of thousands of highly obscure side characters! And they have the audacity to correct themselves afterward! They clearly don't know much about TMNT if they're screwing up something as essential as Joe Eyeball.

Nitpick, nitpick, NITPICK!

Well, I am casual. Those two strike me as casual too, that's all. It's sorta like how I am with Jackie Chan films. I feel I'm a casual fan of him, even though my goal is to try and collect every film he's made or been in, including the obscure and rare ones. I'm not really nitpicking at all.

I found it funny when they said "Leatherface" instead of Leatherhead!

I don't really think Mike or James would care enough about a random person's criticism on a random forum that they've probably never even been to to open an account just to defend their video or "legitimacy" as a TMNT fan.

Either way, they're just doing this for fun and to entertain people, so I don't really think it should be taken THAT seriously. They aren't really trying to be informative, just showing off Mike's collection, so you can't really expect them to have studied the TMNT Wikipedia page to know who every minor character is and every minor fact related to the series. If it was a series review or retrospective like James' three-part look back, then sure, I could understand being a bit miffed at an inaccuracy, but this is just them remembering the good old days and a hiccup or two is to be expected. There weren't really THAT many errors, anyway.

I got a kick out of Mike trying to imitate Shredder's pose, though.

Most definitely. It really isn't meant to be taken seriously, which is why I was saying they're probably very casual when it comes to turtle stuff.

My statements are blanket across all their videos. Yeah if you're gonna make a video make sure you know what you're talking about. I don't know much about old video games so when the AVGN is telling me stuff about game history I usually learn something. I know plenty about turtles and when things are said wrong, not just names of figures, people who don't know much take it as correct. TMNT is one of the few things I have an expansive knowledge of. For example they chose to point out the Easter Special VHS and they didn't mention it contains an episodes never released on DVD. Not the biggest deal but details like that could improve these videos.

And obscure figures? Most of what he had were characters that were in the series and I didn't see anything MOC. He had the original boxes for some of his stuff but none of the figures were carded. What made me laugh was he said they didn't release a Krang in his body till after 1993 when he stopped liking turtles. I'm 90% positive that one he was talking about came out in 1991.

It's not even about knowing this stuff off the top of your head it's about doing research. I don't know everything either but I look stuff up to make sure I'm correct.

I'm sure it would be earth-shattering to people not "in the know" to find out an action figure actually came out 2 years earlier than stated. Yeah they made a few errors and then corrected them in the editing.

These are FAN videos and are fun to watch. Get over it.

He already has mentioned that a couple times. He's done a whole rant about what happened with the DVD releases.

Besides just because you think you're the foremost authority on the subject doesn't make you the end-all beat-all. There's always gonna be someone out there who knows more than you.

I was actually under the impression that they filmed this before James did the TMNT Retrospective video, because they got some facts wrong in this one that he commented on in the Retrospective ones. This particular video was one that he filmed before doing his research, and the retrospective ones are when he did his research.
But yeah, people need to chill. So he said the name of a few characters wrong OH MY GOD THE WORLD'S GONNA END!
TMNT is a cartoon. A great one, but still just a cartoon. There is NO NEED to get so pissed off about something so minor.

I never said I was the Jesus Christ of turtles knowledge I just think if you're gonna make a video about it make sure you know what you're talking about. If they're gonna do one every week they're clearly presenting themselves as some kind of expert on the subject. They watched the whole series, they grew up with it, they still like it. People will take what they say as correct when it isn't. Like saying Tokka and Rahzar were created because they didn't have rights to use stuff from the cartoon series. Do research. Simple. Sure it's just turtles and it's not the biggest deal in the world but it's constrictive criticism. Any hardcore TMNT fan that knows what they're talking about will be able to point out these errors.

Has it ever been explicitly stated why we got Tokka and Rahzar and not Bebop and Rocksteady?

Oh...and I gotta ask: How many of you seriously called Tokka and Rahzar, "Bebop and Rocksteady"? That's one thing that always bugged me. I never did, and I'm sure I was a younger TMNT fan when they were introduced than James and his friends.

I keep hearing different things. First it was because of copyright issues, then it was because Eastman and Laird didn't want them in the movie.

No but I have some theories. Henson probably couldn't translate those characters to screen. A giant rhino person is sort of impossible to make look real, especially since it had to fight. That or Todd W. Langen who wrote the first two films didn't give a crap about the cartoon and wrote whatever he wanted. The movies we're sorta their own thing.

This always bugged me too. He's been saying this since he reviewed the series. I never heard anyone call them that. I was 4 when the movie came out and I knew they were different characters.

I'm sure he's just referring to his childhood experiences. All of his friends probably called them Bebop and Rocksteady. As a kid he didn't have the internet, so his school was probably the only "TMNT community" he had. Thus, everyone he knew that liked TMNT called them Bebop and Rocksteady.

I know that, but I can't believe him and all of his friends were so daft as to see Tokka and Rahzar and still call them Bebop and Rocksteady.

So you don't know for sure either.

I can understand having a gripe with giving false information but when you don't know the reason you can't expect them to know the reason. They're only human and human's make mistakes and I don't think I've ever seen them say they're experts of TMNT lore.

A little more research on their part would have been good but viewers who just assume false information is true have themselves to blame as well for assuming everything an internet celebrity says is true.
