You're in Ohio? How well insulated is your basement? Do you deal with humidity? I just moved into a house in Cleveland and have a large basement that's partially finished. However, it gets cold down there in the winter (like this weekend!) and it gets pretty humid at other times, so I'm a little worried about turning it into a collection room.

Some basements/houses are more climate controlled than others--just wondering if yours is, or how you work around those issues.

As a whole, excellent set-up. Well-organized and presented, and tons of character.

Thanks. Awesome there will be another turtle collector in the Cleveland neighborhood. I'm actually in Wisconsin right now but will be back in Cleveland hopefully in a couple years. With climates being the same here and there I deal with a little humidity up here in the basement where the collection is but it's not too bad. I simply keep a dehumidifier set. It really does the job to take any moisture out of the air. Without a doubt when I'm back in Cleveland I'll be building another new display room in a basement and I'll remedy the moisture in the same way. We don't have to deal with the humidity like the southern states do and having a dehumidifier is safer to me than having the collection in a room with Windows and lots of sunlight.

I have to do a massive update but this will do for now. I hung out with Jim Lawson this weekend at Indiana CC. Talked about lots of stuff both turtle and non turtle related. Commissioned him to do the Portsmouth, NH poster on a sketch cover.

I'll have a little vacation in about a week so I hope to do a massive update then. Enjoy for now!

Wow I haven't updated since April. I need to badly because I've acquired plenty of stuff. Stupid adult responsibilities and having priorities in order.

I'll have to do a proper update soon hopefully (same as I said in April....) but until then I was excited to have gotten this baby back.

With some help from some friends I bumped my signature count from 2 to 8 on my Manhole cover I made long ago.

From left to right:
Dooney, Talbot, Lawson, Farley, Eastman, Laird, Lavigne, & Berger

I really need Murph and Brown to sign it but both are off the map. I have a chance to have Frank Fosco sign it this weekend. Should I have him sign or just stick to the mirage crew?

I think Fosco is an important figure in turtle comics history, he'd definitely fit in. S'your call though! That Mirage display area is lookin' sharp!

Nice accomplishment getting all of these signatures so far! It's a perfect backdrop to the statues. Part of me wants to see signatures around the entire circumference. If you add Fosco, it might be cool to just keep adding more as you meet them.

Lets talk about that for a minute. If I stick with Mirage only, who all am I missing? If I have Fosco sign it, should I have this be a Mirage & Image thing or should I just quickly make/ think of something to have any Image guys sign? Decisions, decisions...

Depends how deep down the rabbit hole you wanna go.

Other than Murph/Brown there's Bode, he's got a pretty strong association with Mirage. Sinking into the depths of their talent pool you've got guys like Veitch, Zulli, etc. but your mileage may very with respect to how iconic they are.

I think it'd be cool to get Fosco & Mitcheroney (and/or Allan) as they're the front-runners of other things to come out of the old comic eras. Allan did some issues of Tales which makes him a bit more Miragey, but Mitch did tons of stuff right outta their office, including merch design, which gives him his own unique edge.

Dan Berger was at SDCC 2009 for example, so I'm sure meeting him was not impossible. Farley on the other hand... yeah... will be interested to hear that heh.

He got both since this April. I'm guessing to get Berger you would have to go to Mirage....but Farley doesnt do anything.....or finish his commissions

Yeah I had them on a potential list. My issue is so many of these guys don't do appearances any more and secondly traveling with this thing is a royal pain. It's not small or compact by any means. I know Bode and Mitch still get around but not much. I am always willing to send this to people that are willing to help and trustworthy but finding cons the guys will be at or someone going is tough. Brown lives 5 minutes from my family cottage in Ohio and I detoured to see where it was the last time I was There. Its far off the road with a bunch of private property and no trespassing signs. A mailed letter also went unanswered.

So through a friend in the area out there, I was able to get Dooney and Berger knowingly by going to the studio. He also got Farley but that was a huge surprise and happened through a personal connection of his out that way.
