How can Yoda be so skilled at wielding a lightsaber? How can Sonic run so fast? How can Pikachu's electric attacks work on ground-type pokemon in the anime? How can Bugs Bunny walk off a cliff and not fall, but all the other characters will plummet to their dooms? (Unless they open an umbrella. For some reason, that protects toons from injuries.) Some fictional characters are just really good at certain things, even to the point of defying logic.
Slash watched the ninja turtles train. He copied their techniques. The turtles are all very stealthy, when they want to be. If Leonardo's brothers can all manage to evade him, I don't see why Slash couldn't find a way to disappear. We all saw how quickly Slash can move, he was able to sneak up and capture Donnie without Mikey even noticing. Yeah, he should have been knocked unconscious or even killed by the fall, but Slash is such an interesting villain that I doubt the writers would get rid of him permanently after only one episode. |

Well, I can understand him being able to survive the fall, but it's just that he got away without ANYONE noticing that bothers me.

Mikey and Donnie were both really banged up, they weren't in any condition to notice details. Leonardo had only just learned who Slash was, so maybe he wasn't in the best mental frame of meal to deal with things either. One minute you're defending the whole galaxy (or at least most of NYC) and suddenly you find yourself sucking down darjeeling with Marie Antoinette... and her little sister. It's a lot for Mr. Turtle to take in.
Raph was hoping to rescue Slash. But he'd also had a really rough time, it was dark, and maybe he was so upset he didn't scan the area as well as he could? He did at least think that Slash might still be out there, as he told Splinter back at the Lair. But he also realized that it was important to be with his brothers at that moment, so he didn't dwell on it any more. (Or at least anymore that we saw. The episode ends right there so we don't actually know whether Raph still worries about Slash.) It's kind of an abrupt ending, and it does stretch the audience belief a little to think that a huge, conspicuous villain can slip away unnoticed but ALL the Nick mutants seem to be insanely good at hiding. If they can't find the giant plant, or the walking fish, or the oversized mongrel, or the freaky Man-Bat after each confrontation, it's not inconceivable that the fierce turtle monster can get away. In this case, I think it's setting up a Sequel Hook. They won't show a body because then the audience and the turtles wouldn't wonder about whether or not Slash will return. It will seem like a surprise when/if Slash reappears, but it wouldn't be a death cheat at least. |

I'm curious, what did Raph hope to accomplish by helping Slash? Was he going to lift his fat ass up the building?

Okay, THAT's the real mystery of the episode. How did a guy who only eats lettuce get to be so fat? XD

So in order of brutality via Slash...
Donnie is dragged away, beaten, and left for dead. Mikey is beaten up and nearly brutally killed and Leo is nearly flat out murdered. Raphael is pounded several times, thrown through buildings, and other things. I hope Raph is able to find the little bit of Spike that remains in Slash. Otherwise I'd hate to have the alternative where Raph is forced to kill his former pet. |

As for Slash getting away, right after he hits the ground, Raph leaves the edge of the building to help Leo up and make sure he's ok. He then checks on Donnie and Mikey. I thought there was plenty of time before Raph checked on Slash again for him to get away, especially since he was preoccupied with his wounded brothers. Admittedly, he probably still would have been close enough to track down should they have chosen to do so, but they weren't exactly in the best of shape.
Raph did feed Spike popcorn in Operation: Break Out - maybe he's been snacking on that when the turtles are out, lol.

Oh, really? I never noticed that Raph was feeding him popcorn. I'll have to watch that ep again to catch that.

Yeah, it's right after Mikey goes on about his cowboy dream with Donnie. Even before they wake up, we can see Spike on the floor going for a stray piece of popcorn. I always thought that was a fun little way to work Spike into the scene.

Does anybody get a double mutation vibe from Slash? Maybe this cartoon's transition to Tokka.

It was such a great episode I dug Slash more than the FW version, and whenever they come back on the airwaves I'll be more than ready. When is that again?

Anyone else notice how populated the city is now?! I'm continuously impressed not just by the writing, but the aesthetics of the show as well! The series is becoming very high-caliber and is using it's budget wisely.

Yes, definitely, and it's really good to see that they can do this now.

i've been wondering since season 2 is stepping up with the animation compared to season 1 i'm kinda hoping we see other locations in new york, like chinatown, the big apple i mean yeah we did get to see the brooklyn bridge in the dock scene, but i would adore to see chinatown with all the street lights and stuff when the turtle run across rooftops heck it would be a good location for a new years eve episode.

I doubt they'll do a New Year's Eve episode special at all, but it would be cool.
