Glad to hear the hospital thing isn't too serious, Slade.

And I hope that gets resolved for you, Indigo.

Wow, Zar, that guy sounds like a real jerk.

I hate holidays. It's all a shameless scheme capitalizing on nostalgia & a false state of merriment to line corporate pockets. People run with it because they're supposed to, but who says? I don't owe anyone a God damned thing. Christmas? It's not about faith, it's nothing more than a consumerist circle-jerk, an elaborate ruse to keep children in line while dangling a carrot on a string before their eyes. It conditions people to feel entitled, to become materialistic. Family gatherings are a facade half the time, groups of people spending money they don't have on people they don't like, kissing & hugging those who are foreign beyond a bond in blood. Feigning love & togetherness that without a tradition rooted in values they don't even believe in wouldn't be given a second thought. Walking on eggshells with well wishes, afraid to offend those who do the same under the guise of another God's will. You can't even share a sentiment of good intentions towards your fellow man lest it be politically incorrect. You're thought to be strange if you don't decorate your home, as if the lack of colored lights adorning your place of residence suggests you are without a heart. F*ck the whole thing. I've got no use for any holiday. I enjoy a Thanksgiving meal, but beyond that, they could all cease to be. Just excuses to push products & put pressure on people.

& don't go thinking you're in any way funny, creative, original, or contributing in calling me Scrooge, Grinch, or any other seasonal fuddy-duddy moniker.

Don't blame you one bit for feeling this way, Powder, as I feel the same way. I used to love holidays but as my beliefs have changed, I've really come to despise them and feel they have no meaning anymore. They're just days and nothing more to me. Our family consists of three people now and no one else comes to gather. My grandparents can't due to Grandpa's illness, and I think that's the hardest thing of all for me to deal with today as he's getting worse. He walks with a cane now and when I saw him yesterday he looked awful. Mom might go visit them tomorrow if the weather's good, and who knows if it will be? Weather forecasters don't know anything.

So, don't feel guilty for hating holidays at all, Powder. You're not alone in that.

Exactly - it's the pits.

Powder - I agree, the materialism sucks. I just focus on the food, and hanging out with the family members I'm fortunate enough to not loathe.

Don't feel too bad, Bubbly, Indigo. Mine came on my birthday, and it's next scheduled appearance will be.... New Year's. Yup, I got screwed over TWICE during this time of year!

My gear-grinder for the holiday- had to work on X-Mas eve, and have the day half-ruined by some c*nt with a bad attitude who was scamming the store out of both free food and her money back- when she didn't even pay for her order today in the first place! Took her order AS GIVEN, then was told she had a free meal coming due to a botched order yesterday, and her name was in the log-book. Went to get manager to confirm/take care of it, and when one of my managers freed it out (he didn't ask if it was to go or in-store, and never read it back or let me do same) she said it was wrong again.

She asked for it to be fixed- we did- and then wanted some free sides of sour cream. They only gave her one instead of the 4 she wanted, she got pissy (again) and wanted a manager. Everything was sorted out, apologized, etc, and she left. THEN calls back (or her husband did) to complain about the service, etc, and wanted their money back from the original order yesterday. She comes back in and asks for manager again. I got the GM. He ended up giving her back the cash in spite of the lame excuse she gave about not keeping the receipt because it was at her mom's, takes up space, and it was trash. But she got free food AND her "refund". B*tch. Holds up the line, makes a stink, scams the store, and insults me in front of my face ON CHRISTMAS EVE!!

And then after I left work, I ran into a rather unfriendly Doberman on my walk home. Got into a stand-off with said dog until the owner called it back out of the street (should be on a LEASH, jack@$$!!) and I was able to continue. But I was ready to kick a dog in the face if need be, and I HATE harming animals. But, when you're faced with a growling, barking animal that could VERY easily do you great harm.....

Bloody Christmas. I like that, Indigo and very fitting too. Can't believe three of us are dealing with it at the same time. Kind of funny but kind of awesome too.

Duckie, that sounds horrible. I'd be very mad at that woman for sure. People just have no consideration anymore, which is why I'd never be able to work in a restaurant or in retail with how horrible people are. I just couldn't do that.

People perpetuating negative stereotypes. I was hoping to find a shop in the area to buy anime merch & whatnot, & in Googling for that I stumbled upon different groups/communities/cons. I'm not the most outgoing guy, but I figured, hey, if there are some cool circles to fall into, maybe I'll change my ways. Unfortunately, & unsurprisingly, the majority of the folks in them are exactly what the general public thinks they are. The ever-unwashed, socially awkward oddballs draped in goth pants & fedoras, whose fat hangs out of their shirts without a care. T-shirts with memes on them. Interest in the most entry level series' (you know, the stuff that comes to the states en masse, gets dubbed, airs on Toonami, etc). Calling themselves Otaku who love Japanese culture, completely ignorant to the fact that in Japanese Culture, the title of Otaku is typically used to shame people. It's not something to be proud of, it's a derogatory term. These "conventions" are a joke, it's just a bunch of people in fur-suits doing karaoke & flailing about like rabid swine to ear-gouging techno music, with one or two no-name American voice actors who had background roles on sub-par dubs. Eugh. Get your sh*t together, South Carolina. I should expect no less from this Godforsaken wasteland. I know I'm a fat bearded elitist myself, but I at least have some self-awareness, & I know my sh*t when it comes to anime/Japan.

That's an anime con for you. One walk through the manga/anime section at NYC comic con is about the same as you described.

That's a shame. We have Project A-Kon here where I live, and the one year I got to go was amazing. It's freaking HUGE, and has so much manga/anime stuff, that we didn't even get to see more than maybe half of it, plus game areas, some shows, contests, and other stuff- most of which we missed by going on the wrong day, but whatever. I wish we could get to go back again some year, because I've heard it's one of the better anime cons. I found a LOT of great stuff there I wanted; next time, I need to take more $$ with me!!

Yeah, I hate that, too. Luckily mine seems to be better now, so I'm in the home stretch. I only got up twice last night, so that's a good thing.

My gear grinder: That we're going to get rain today. Not cool.

Ooo. I feel ya there.

The fact that I was approved for 4 weeks of leave, but I'm back in the roster to be at my post as of yesterday because the admin Lt. took his leave and the Captain won't call me back so I can get this sh*t straight.
