I was never fond of April learning martial arts at all. Leave the ninjutsu to the turtles, the brawling to Casey, and leave April to her wits, street smarts, and cunning.

April knowing martial arts doesn't bother me to much. After all if you were hanging out with a group of ninjas I'm sure eventually you'd start picking stuff up. Her look doesn't bother me to much either.

Archie April was coold such, but she shall be trained up by Splinter later, not attending karate classes from the start. But I wouldn't like to see any martial arts Irma if she is to appear in the 2012 show (even if I heard of a Japanese TMNT comic where Irma goes crazy one day, picks up a sword and almost kills Shredder, would be cool to read that).

I'm afraid that using a 16 years old April is a part of TMNT sexualization (not like it's going to be porn in the show, but more in the undertone).

You never read the Archie series then. Make you pick up those collections when IDW starts pumping them out.

April has to be able to kick ass somehow or just be a lot less recurring of a character. I think I do prefer her 2003 version who has her own fighting scale distinct from the Turtles, but I don't want every episode to be partially centered around a character who only gets in the way and gives the villains a leg up on the heroes.

In what sense? She was a very important character, if you ask me. She helped much more directly than Mirage April, not to belittle her original portrayal; she just had other crap going on that didn't necessarily involve the Turtles. After 2003 April met the Turtles, it was as if the friends and family she mentioned at the beginning of episode 2 no longer existed, because she had no problem spending most of her time with Casey and the Turtles. My point is that she played an important role, especially when it came to hacking into the Shredder's building to help the Turtles infiltrate and whatnot.

I like the idea of April learning basic combat from Splinter, but I was always bugged at how quickly she was able to take down a Foot ninja on her own. I mean, lifelong training for the Turtles - they have some struggle against the Foot but often emerge victorious. April gets an undisclosed but presumably simple level of self-defence training, and suddenly she can sock a Foot soldier in the face and take him down in a second (Vol. 4 #6). That I do not care for, but what I really hated was how easily April dispatched Karai in TMNT.

Making her younger allows for more flexibility in letting Splinter train her, as she's young and nimble enough to learn quickly (as opposed to having been a scientist for twenty-or-so years before ever taking up martial arts). I'm assuming that 2012 April will have quite a bit of spunk, so it'll make a lot more sense.

I plan to! I missed out on the Archie comics as a kid, so I can't wait.

I kind of have the feeling she's going to be around all the time since she's linked to the main plot of the show through her parents kidnapping. I don't mind her being around all the time, and I do want her to contribute to the fight against the Foot Clan, but not as a martial artist herself. I'm sure she's going to be the damsel in distress every so often tho

^Agreed with 100%! I don't have a problem with April learning self defense, after all, it is the smart thing to do when you hang around with a bunch of crime fighting ninjas that are constantly in another battle. No, my problem is when they make her a master after only a month. Let April learn the basics, but don't allow her to do all these awesome moves the Turtles can pull off after a weeks worth of training.

I think he meant that April actually wasn't in many episodes of the 4kids cartoon. She very rarely went on adventures with the Turtles, aside from when they went to that bug world or when she helped them during the Triceraton invasion.

I think that's exactly what CyberCubed meant by "that bug world."

And the myriad of other times she directly helped them while the Turtles took care of business. I'm not buying it.

Again, I still don't see how one could belittle 2003 April's role. She remained heavily involved and was in many episodes, so I'm not convinced that there's a logical argument to suggest that she wasn't around much/wasn't useful, or whatever the heck SDP was getting at, before.

Just to add in terms of 2003 April, she was key in the Turtles accomplishing their two major missions in season 1.

1) April ran everything tech side back in the lair when the guys stormed Shredder's strong hold, she hacked the floor plans and fed all the information to the guys so they knew where they were going.

2) Without April sneaking in and taking out the security system to the Utrom building who knows if the guys would have gotten in to start the wheels in motion to save Splinter.

And that's just a tip of the ice burg. April does a lot for the guys in the series, I mean she doesn't need to be busting heads to be helping.

Personally, I found Archie comic April so-so, but I didn't mind her learning defense and martial arts, either...just as long as she didn't outdo the Turtles who had been training for far longer.

If they do that for her in this series, keeping it realistic in a sense and not overpowering her making her some kind of a martial arts genius whose true talent had been hidden until she started training, I'll be cool with it.

Not to mention, 2K3 April let them stay in her apartment while the Foot were down in the sewers.

Just wondering, am I the only one who's scared of 2012 April's head?

I'm gonna go on record with my predication that Aprilwill be mutated into the literal "5th Turtle" at some point in this series.

She's gonna revive the Venus De Milo mantle.

I think it's a pretty good model overall, but the head is a weird shape; not as weird as the action figure we already saw, but still a weird shape.

Maybe I should start e-mailing Nick now pleading with them not to do something like this

They're not going to mutate April beyond a single episode maybe, and then reverse it by the time the ep is done.

April was mutated what...around 2-3 times in the OT? Cat-April and Fish-April, I think there was one more?

I sooo hope we don't get an 5th Turtle April. Adam, if you're right, I may cry.
