Really all Nick has to do is write April as a competent character with agency.
I can't help but keep bringing up "Avatar", but in all seriousness that's my gold standard for female characters in a show targeted at kids.

Female characters can be ladylike and kick ass. (Katara)
They can eschew social girly convention and still kick ass (Toph)
They can giggle, wear pink, and talk about boys, and kick ass even more (Ty Lee)
Quote Worthy #2

I completely agree with you On "Avatar" I loved that show and I am pissed it got shafted IMO.

I completely agree with u on the female characters. All the characters are extremely young, but written as competent. Katara is like 15 and April will be sixteen so I think they can and will do it. I mean heck Toph is like what 12 so we know they can and are willing to do it!

The OT version of Casey Jones was the greatest version of him of all time.
NT Casey was just neutered

Every time I heard 2k3 Casey's voice all I could picture in my head was kid muscle, which did not help.

I have to kind of agree with Ooglafina, only on the note of reason why the crap they would let April when there really isn't a reason to it.

Spidey and the XMen all have super human abilities, though, right? lol - I don't know how many 16 year old "real" kids you know that could be a successful vigilante, but I'll go out on a limb and say its zero. Just sayin.... Casey is supposed to be a "real" character, right? Like, plausible? He's a regular guy that wants to be a vigilante...no super weapons, abilities, etc. Therefore, making him a teenager is akin to turning him into a "Robin" character, only he has no access to Batman's arsenal of weapons/gadgets. Not to mention, I strongly dislike Robin as a character anyway, so changing CJ into anything that remotely resembles him sounds like a bad idea.

My point is that there is no reason to suddenly take established characters and turn them into kids...it doesn't make the story "better" IMO - at all.

While I love every version of Casey because he is my second favorite character after Leonardo, it seriously makes me question the judgment of every comment you have made on here thus far and every one you will make past this point that you even said that.

You can not like him, you can say he sounded too much like Kid Muscle.... but neutered, seriously?? Casey Jones kicked some serious butt over the course of that series

I am pretty certain Casey is suppose to be 18 or 19 when they introduce him. And considering the amount of Tweens being convicted of murder in this country each year now an 18 year old going out and busting heads to fight crime doesn't seem that far off to me.

Heck that's pretty much the plot of the film Kickass.

I suppose we could debate this relentlessly.... I never thought of Casey as being 18, nor do I recall anywhere that portrays him as being that young. I would also like to point out that there tends to be a big difference, physically, bwetween 16 and 18 year old guys....I could believe that an 18 year old Casey could be big/ripped and capable of kicking some ass, while I would find that a lot harder to believe if he was 16.

Also, for the tweens you speak of - how many are murdering dangerous criminals as opposed to their peers ("tweens", as you say)? - and how many of these dangerous tweens are using guns or knives? How many are killing innocent people and attacking people unprovoked? I think there is a major difference between a teenage punk who murderers someone and a teenage vigilante trying to fight crime.

Again, my point is why change up Casey and April's age and make them kids for the sake of change?

I should probably preface this by saying I don't really love the age changes either. I just don't think they are as unbelievable as people are making them. Would I prefer Casey and April to be their real ages they have always been YES but I am also not going to allow the age change to ruin my entire opinion of the show.

That said:

Quoted from the start of this thread. Casey is going to be at least 18 IF he is even ever in the show, so everything dealing with him being 16 really is a non-issue.

As for violence I will be honest with you I am far too lazy and care far too little about this to actually go searching for legal precedent to prove anything to you, but not only have a been to a youth offender prison but I took a couple classes just about gangs as part of my college and if you don't think tweens or teens can do seriously jacked up stuff to one another, I don't know what to say.

Especially when in comes to things like gangs were a majority of the members range from early teen into early 20s and most don't live much longer then that because of the violence.

I mean without back story, without know any possible training Casey could have... I mean he could have been weigh lifting his entire life it's really popular now-a-days. It's hard for me to say just what he could do, but yes I do believe an 18 year old could go out and beat the crap out of people.

I am mean this strictly in a debate type way and I am enjoying our conversation

Truthfully I kind of like it bc its new and thank u for mentioning Robin(s). There has been three robins. Hell Tim Drake was what 12? And No Kc doesn't have the same arsenal. He has a Baseball Bat!!!!

I am going to name some other non-super power teens. SPEEDY, ARTIMUS, Batgirl, and I won't mention Cody Jones lol. There is some precedent, but u have really good points. The difference is that it doesn't bother me as much

Wait! He is 18-21 isn't he? April is 16. I would like to see them as there normal age, but I want something new and this storyline has me really interested, so I am trusting Nick.

I want to expand on this.

The turtles live in a world that rejects them, there needs to be a reason she is a-ok with being with them, why they would bring her home. Some random teenage chick brought home makes no sense. Just calling her April and throwing her in doesn't work. The more I think about it, and crap load more I agree with what Ooglafina is saying.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought at least thus far from what has been presented to us the guys have a connection to April because the Kraang attacked her and her family and her parents were killed, but them and/ or Splinter saved her?? (not 100% clear on this)

Where was it said that her parents were killed? This is a detail that I don't remember (although it's completely possible it went over my head).

AFAIK - April and her parents were kidnapped by the Kraang and the Turtles saved her. This is all part of the actual first episode, which we only got a few snippets of through the table read, so details on this are vague at best.

I have seen it mentioned in this thread once or twice but it could very well be like the Karai being Splinter's daughter thing something that was said by someone and then just picked up by other people. Them all being kidnapped makes a lot more sense actually.

I see the part about the turtles saving her.

And so what? Should they instantly bring everybody they rescue into the family? or is the privilege of the first person they meet?

She needs some reason to be there other than being some random girl they rescue. As an adult she was educated and helped them out. She can drive, has her own van, her own place. She added to their lives in a unique way.

What will teen April add to their lives? What does she give back?

But maybe I'm just being stubborn about the whole thing.

I really don't think you can jump to conclusions or judgment about any of those things before we see how things actually play out in the series. A year and a half is a long time to stay worked up about this.

When they rescued adult April and brought her back to their homes and into their lives she originally brought them nothing either. She was just some lady they saved in the sewer from mousers that passed out. It's actually pretty much the same thing.

And what April brings regardless of age is the guys first contact with the human world. More so then her science or tech knowledge April brings a human element to their lives that none of them have experienced before.

And without knowing anything about teen April I can't start to guess what other qualities she will bring to the table

See I see it as April is rescued by the guys and then with their help she plans to save her parents, who I assume since the Kraang are supposedly creating mutants are alive, only mutated. But that's just me.

The argument is now almost turning into "Why even add April to TMNT?"

I say go the route of movie 1. I thought it worked pretty swimmingly.

I had my own car and could drive when I was 16, I would also go pretty much anywhere. Do people forget their teenage years as they age? Did you guys spend your days at home waiting for mom and dad to do stuff for you when you were 16? I did a ton of stuff when I was 16, parties concerts etc., she is not going to be 8, she isn't a kid anymore.
