Well ok, Splinter used the terms but the turtles themselves didn't.

Maybe, but they didn't call them selfs brothers in Mirage either. They used shortened names like Leo, Raph etc. The point is, that they were Brothers in the Movie, and Mirage, But nothing says they were in the old cartoon. Even splinter called them friends. So it leads back to the question: Why couldn't they have been brothers in the old cartoon?
And to reply eye, Yeah I think they were borhters in Archie. Someone else can probably confirm, haven't read arhie in a while. |

Yeah, I dug out one of Archies, and they do call each other brothers in there. But not in the cartoon... curious.

Yes, I wondered that as a kid, and thats why when I watched the whole series again I wanted to make sure. Maybe they didn't want to make it that deep, I don't know.
Well I still think that Archie was better in bringing the TMNT to kids. |

I'll admit that I think the Archie was often better than the cartoon.

Brothers
Since I brought on the "brothers" topic... let me elaborate a bit
At the very start of the old comic you got the sense that they were brothers but that is because that is the closest to the mirage comics...after that (whether they mention it or not) they do not act as though they are brothers. They don't really fight or pick on one another like siblings would...rather as friends would...or roommates. They never cross personal space like a sibling would. However in the new series and in the movies (mostly in the first one) they act as though they are brothers...brothers who have been cramped in a confined space for many years. Raph picking on mikey is how my brother and I are...but we can also be deadly searios and at odds like raph and leo. You see them pushing and hugging...things you didn't see before in the old comics. I'm glad that they are pushing the sibling relationship this time around. In my oppinion that is one of the main things that makes the Turtles so believable (I mean as believable as mutant turtles can be right?) Don't get me wrong, I love the old cartoon a lot...but the family relationship was missing...and I am glad it is not now. Shadow Jones |

What does everyone think of April O'Neal on this new series?, I was used to her being a news reporter cause she helped the turtles a lot, In the new series, She was a Lab asistant working for Baxter Stockman, Now that she is no longer working for him, I wonder what kind of important role she'll play in the new series despite the fact she doesnt have many sources to scoop around on whats going on in the world above, As of now, Shes is like an ordinary women who befriends the turtles, Not that I'm saying its a bad thing, So, I wonder how she can help them out.

april
I believe that after awhile she does become a reporter. Its like an independent thing...nothing like eye witness news... but she'll be reporting at some point...she did in the comics.

Well, Lets hope she doesn't become the dansel in distress like she was in the original series, I think in the comics, She started learning a bit of martial arts if I'm not mistaken, Though, I never read the original comics, Only the ones from the Archies comic company.

i am pretty sure she did learn some martial arts (and could still be) in the comics. I don't think they'll make her a complete "help me help me" character...I think she'll be far more independent and help the turtles more.

allusions
My brother and I JUST watched the new episode together (because he has been sick and didn't want to do anything...and I didn't want to go in there and catch it.) And he gave me all the comic allusions in case you didn't catch them all...
In order: Turtle Cave = Batman School for gifted reptials = x-men hall of ninjustic = super friends guy in the blue and red tights = spiderman I think I might start making an archive of all the pop culture allusions they use in each eppisode....just a thought PS He says the water is rusty-peach Shadow Jones |

*lol* Then I started to think.. for the people who saw pink water, it was cuase they were infected with that evil pink ooze glop from Ghostbusters 2!
As for... the brothers bit. I liked the sesne of this too. I think the reason the (earlier) Mirage comics didn't go some much into this is because they were still evolving, persay. So by the time the movies and Archie comics established themselves, the borther idea was established. But the logic behind the orginal cartoon so very much bugged me. I guess that another reason why I never fully enjoyed it as much. They four Turtles just saw themselves as once removed friends, always calling each other by their full names, and acting like a balanced machine than a close knit family. As for... April. I like her both as Mirage lab assitant and carton/movie News reporter. I will admit, though, there was a time during the Mirage comics (after leaving baxter) that they didn't mention what she did to get income. I guess she picked up your everyday run of the mill desk job. Or was it the Second Time Around shop that she fell back on. Either way, when the Foot attacked and they all fled to the Farmhouse, Mirage April was more concerned about losing the antique shop that a job or anything else. They all lived there for quite some time too... no mention of jobs or source of income for both April or Casey. It wasn't until City at War, when you finally see April (and Casey) make a real effort to get a job! Interesting.... And the water is still rust orange! *hopes the encodes DR made shows it as such* |
