I think TMNT will still be around in some capacity...its message is too potent and interesting not to be picked by the next generation and built upon in a slightly different way. Look at how the Batman comics have changed over the years. It's gotten more and more complex while at the same time becoming more like the source material in terms of message, etc.

Hopefully, there will be Alan Moores and Peter Davids in the future to challenge the mythology and effectively add more to these characters. To me, that's when "older" franchises are at their best.

Well isn't the world supposed to end in a few years?

Seriously though, TMNT may never hit the same level of popularity that it once had, but I bet it'll be around in one way or another, even if it continues in a cycle of years with increased and decreased interest and activity.

Nothing that reaches a certain level of popularity EVER ends. TMNT have reached that level. It could drop off signifigantly in the future if the rights get tied up somehow, but one would imagine it'll eventually end up in the hands of some big conglomerate that will use it in some capacity for long past after we're all gone.
