Well, with Platinum Dunes on, I don't think it's gonna be a kiddie movie.

I think that this list isn't as recent as I thought.

They say that they're hoping/expecting Stephen Sommers to direct G.I.J.O.E. 2, when about two weeks ago he was announced as director. Meaning, they could already have another writer on TMNT. Assuming they're fast at finding writers.

Here's a little info I found about it:

Quote:
Steve Barron, the director of the original TMNT feature film, which New Line Entertainment distributed, is attached to direct the Hallmark Entertainment mini-series. The two-night, four-hour mini-series will blend CGI Turtles with live actors, replacing the prosthetics of the past Turtles films and live-action TV series. If green lit, the mini-series will launch after the animated series and before the feature film, between May 2003 and May 2004 on Hallmark.

“The Ninja Turtles mini-series that Hallmark and I are developing will be a darker more street-wise view of the characters,” said Steve Barron. “Taking its tone from the original comics it will be an atmospheric and spectacular re-invention of the franchise using today's CGI technology to leap into the 21st century.”*

Huh? What about the Hallmark mini now? That's been deader than dirt for several years now.

Are any of these scripts online? Sure would be interesting to hear the different interpretations of the series.

Was Fusco's draft just supposed to be about the TMNT origin and defeat of Shredder?

How is it a bad thing that they turned down a bad script. Isn't that a sign that they want this thing to do well?

They turned down a good script. And they'd already actually turned it down a few months back (well, not turn it down so much as send it to new writer(s) to "lighten it up"... if that gives you some idea of the general direction of things).

So, they want to make it entertaining?

For shame.

As long as the movie features 4 ninja mutant turtles, I am just fine with whatever they make.

Nothing like new film news to bring one out of the woodwork.

Having read the thread, I can't help but feel we're about to go down a similar road. If Andrew is to be believed, and in most cases, I put faith in his words and whatever information he conveys, then it'd be a real shame if a decent story for the Turtles was scrapped.

But again, it was only the first script. And while we've all (okay, so maybe it's just me) become somewhat dismissive about the first reaction to an even remotley dark TMNT story starting with "Make it lighter," I think in the end, this is more a wait and see type deal (not necessarily for the better).

I say this having not read the draft and knowing little about it. But like I said, I believe what Andrew's saying and while I'm sure he wouldn't be at liberty to discuss details about said draft, "lighten[ing] it up" is something we should be used to by now.

I hope more is revealed about this potential "not great" storyline. And for now, perhaps it's wishful thinking to hope that whoever the new writers for this project are, they can keep some of the elements that made it "the very best Turtles story," as Andrew put it.

To me dumping a good script to make it more "fun and entertaining" sounds an awful lot like dumbing it down.

I'm almost 28 years old. I don't want to see them making perpetual jokes about pizza anymore.

And since when is Fusco not fun or entertaining? He wrote Hidalgo and The Forbidden Kingdom. Both were adventure movies that were kid friendly. And the man is a real life *ninja for crying out loud.

*Maybe not a ninja. He has a blackbelt in something or other but I can't remember what.

Both, as ABC owns Hallmark.

Well that's you. I'll gladly take Pizza antics over.....whatever the hell counts as fun in the 'serious' turtlesverse.
