I picked it up today (both covers). It came out to be not as good as I expected, but it's still a great read. It does indeed feel like a Mirage book in a way, and that is something that appeals to me a lot. The art, however, seems to be a bit more rushed than in issue 1. There's a big lack of backgrounds, the inking is less detailed (you can even still see the pencils in quite a lot of panels) and there's way too many panels where the feet of the Turtles haven't even been drawn (it can be seen as a style thing, but I think it's a bit too much). I really really love Torres' work, so this disapointed me a bit.

Still, this arc is for me the best IDW has done so far, and it's always a pleasure to read Tristan's TMNT. I hope we get more books from him soon.

I'm not a Lovecraft expert by all means, but isn't Shub Niggurath usually portrayed as a female?

Usually, but not always. It's been called the Black Ram with a Thousand Young in other stories, which indicates it's a male. You're more than welcome to check between it's legs though...

Here's my review at TMNT Entity!

This was an awesome two-parter. I really enjoyed every minute of it. And great that it came after the Donatello microseries, sequentially, too. The Don-centric story really complimented the one-shot.

Good stuff.

Amazing conclusion to a spectacular two-part series. Tristan has done it again!

I loved Raph smacking Mikey, it was hilarious! I literally laughed out loud.

Great stuff, quality work, fantastic art...MORE IDW TMNT BOOKS BY TRISTAN REQUIRED.

I agree. i wouldn't say that action defined Raph as being an ass at all. It was more like a 3 stooges action. nuck nuck

Great book!
Loved the art, love the story, loved the characterization.

Well done!

Coloring Mistakes

Seems like there was a three page set that somehow escaped the editor's notice!

On page 19, panel 4, Leonardo's mask looks like Donatello purple to me. Could go either way, though, since I think their mask colors as a little too similar in shade.

Donatello is wearing red on the first panel for page 20, and Mikey seems to have uncolored arm pads and bandana on the 3rd panel of the same page.

On page 21, Leo again appears to be wearing Donatello purple on the 3rd(?) panel.

I love the shot of Raph holding Leo's bloody sword on page 13. It's not a mistake, of course, but it does give me some Archie Comics Future TMNT flashbacks!

I liked this little story. Kinda reminded me of Notes from the Underground on the 4Kids show.

Strange, I like to think I really soak in the art, I give it my full attention... Yet I've never noticed these color errors, haha.

From what I can tell, the coloring errors always take place when the turtles are drawn far out in the background. If that's as bad as it gets, and we don't have two Raphaels, two Leonardos, and a Donatello, I'm not too concerned about coloring errors at all. XD
It happens in all comics.

I've honestly never read that before. It's always the "Black Goat with a Thousand Young" that I've encountered. I think I'll pass on gender verification, though....

Well just got done with this issue and have to say Tristan you knocked it out of the park. I really liked it. It felt very much like it could fit into almost any of the TMNT Universes.

You're right about page 20 stuff. Other things depend on light, in my book.

Page 20 things have been added to my official mask mistake thread. sigh.

Regarding the Blue and Purple colors on the IDW books. I can't help but think that something might get blurred or tinted in the printing process. Like somebody else said, it usually only occurs in the "distance" shots so it isn't terribly noticeable. I just point them out because I know you care! (And because I LOVE finding coloring mistakes in TMNT media!)

Don't get me wrong about the color mask thing, it's not like I was implying some way to bash them. Like Toby said, it happens in all comics.
