I lament us not asking about the Fred Wolf crossover business and Renet... though I didn't want to bombard with too many questions and I didn't think we'd get any kind of answers beyond "can't talk about it much."

At least the future of the Nick show remains in good hands with Ciro Nieli. I'm hoping the show goes on for at least 5-7 seasons though just so they can cover all the important aspects of the TMNT lore.

It's always interesting to see how much work goes on behind the scenes at a cartoon. People often forget how much work it is just to put one episode together, or to work with a 90+ person staff.

I always knew working in animation was difficult, I can only imagine what goes on there.

He has always come off as very personable and approachable to me, in every single video, podcast or article. Not everyone can be that way ALL the time but he definitely does a much better job than most.

Naa, I think will. Maybe Alopex or a character somewhat similar.

He just doesn't want to drop hints about that kind of thing. He was being very avoidant on that question.

Too much to gain by introducing a female mutant. Lots of stuff they can mine there. Not to mention give April more foes to battle (female on female is always interesting :p)

It was nice for a change for someone to not go all "Well my vision of the show is the best and the others can suck it cause they don't know what I know about and if weren't for me they wouldn't give a ****..." it just really refreshing to hear him to admit the show's major short comings. Although I can't tell you how sad it makes me feel knowing that it's going to cost them a arm and leg to get that New York snowy setting for that Mikey's story.

Something tells me that he has tunnel vision when comes to female characters. They either have to be really good or bad and it's mandatory for them to be the love interest of one of the turtles.

they can be sooo much more! Raven from Teen Titans didn't have a love interest and she was awesome (although that didn't stop me from shipping her with Beast Boy)

Well.. the show is about mutants... and having a vagina automatically cancels out the effects of mutagen... so... no female mutant characters. Honestly though... Mutagen rains all over the city and not one female mutant. Sexist fools.

Even in the 2007 movie, there's only April and Karai and that's enough for now. I'm sure they'll add more in future seasons should the need arises.

Speaking of, April didn't even have enough character exploration/screentime imo in favor of the turtles as it is, so to give more screentime to other girls kinda taking her limelight of being the leading lady of tmnt.\

And he obviously is blissfully unaware that girls actually like TMNT too, and that 30 years of the franchise's existence and decided not to use the girls there for the new version.

I would like to point out in OT, the only mutant female character I remember worth noting was Mona Lisa (since Lotus Blossom is already pretty much/or is Karai), and she appeared in Season 4 Episode 18. We're only at early Season 2, anything can happen along the road.

In 2k3...I think there's that blue monster girl but she's not that memorable imo.

Great podcast! It was very interesting to hear about some of the "struggles" with Nick about where the show should go, and that Ciro wants it to have a darker tone - I hope it's not just about making the mutants look more scary and stuff like that, but that they will develope the characters and explore their more complex sides as well.

Was I the only one thinking about the stuff he said about having an end to the show (or something like that) - that he wants to have a full closure, and that someone has to do a reboot, if they want a new TMNT-show after the Nick show. Or maybe that's just a a natural approach.

The closure I expect is Donnie and April relationship, whether they get together or not.

It's what they focused on the very first episode/pilot.

Rule of trilogy/series: always look back on the first/pilot episode. Good series like Scream, Harry Potter, Star Wars, LOTR, Prison Break, Desperate Housewives, etc all focuses on that.

Something like eighty percent of media aimed at children have male main characters, whereas half the population is female. At best, women will often be minor characters or will not be present at all.
