The issue with Leo's daisho, is that the swords aren't scaled properly enough. The wakishazi should have been noticeable more shorter. Personally, I'm very pleased that Nick finally gave Leo proper swords instead of a pair of katana, since Leo haven't been can only been using a daisho since TMNT & Other Strangeness core book.
And I am extremely pleased they didn't go for the "ninja-to" trap, since there are no such thing as a straight bladed Nihonto named ninja-to, that's a pop-culture creation from the 1960's. |

the word is more modern, but its a katana with full length grip and a blade shorter than normal katana. average katana have about 28 inch blade, very hard if not impossible to draw from your back. ko-katana or chisa-katana is another name I've herd used, have around 22-25 inch blade. with most wakizashis falling between 17-21,22 inch but with a single handed grip.
there is no evidence that the names were used in history but. there are antique katana that survived that fall into those measurements. there was also the sword laws tat one point that restricted length if you were not a samurai, and the short blade with full grip is thought to be for that class. I'm no expert but i do like my swords and like to learn so i read all i can. https://sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/36400 heres a link to a modern production of one, note it not me not my review. but think it may be my next sword purchase. |

Yeah, I did some reading on various sword forums. I think for simplicity he could just go full on with a pair of short swords (wakishazi or kodachi) all in all, looking at it realistically, since Leo most part dual wields his swords, it would probably be less straining using two short swords instead of a Longsword and short sword combo, even Niten-Ichi Ryu isn't as much dual wielding as it's commonly thought.

very good point about Niten-Ichi.
i mean i know this is a cartoon and fiction and sometimes i know i can over think the realistics of things, buts i can't help myself, lol. it always bugs me when in film or cartoon when sue draws a full length sword of there back like it was no big thing. that is what lead me to think of the ko-katana and wakizashi together. being as the turtles are a bit shorter than an average size adult that either/both would be perfect for a ninja running around sewers and alleys and rooftops. |
