Colonel Schrader, more importantly than making him a military guy rather than a ninja though, was that he was going to turn out to be a yellow alien covered in blades and a giant mouth full of teeth.

Schrader reaches down and PULLS THE SAI FROM HIS FOOT,
letting loose with a TERRIFYING, OTHERWORLDLY-HOWL —

Jagged "blade" teeth that almost wrap around the head, pale yellow skin with curved blades coming out from the entire body, fiery red eyes and he howls. None of this makes me think Shredder and it doesn't make sense on it's own.

In order for the teeth around most of the head to make sense, he'd have to have crocodile jaws or else his mandibular joints would be way far back.
"Curved blades" covering the entire body sound like a porcupine, except this would also include the stomach I guess?
He also howls? Like a wolf?
"Pale yellow skin"... I sure as hell hope such a specific detail was chosen for the reason I think of...
