I believe the 4K copy I rented from Gamefly was from Arrow.

Not that I'm trying to rain down anyone's parade, but I bought all 3 classic Turtles movies for my Apple TV library. Which means I don't need anymore disc copies again. I'm doing this with my entire DVD/Blu-Ray/4K disc copies. I figure have my entire collection stored on an online service so I don't have physical copies taking up room, and they're there forever. The only downside is that it relies on internet and sometimes the signal goes weak. And lastly, I find that it's cheaper to buy the Apple TV version than a physical copy. I mean I bought Kung Pow: Enter The Fist for $4.99 when it was on sale, but it's typical price was $20. I buy them with the rewards points I cash in on the Sony charge card service just for making regular purchases; which means I can get my Apple TV movies almost for free as long as I pay my obligation bills.

There is something very appealing about going all-digital. Some years back I embraced this, but the truth is that nothing beats the transfer rate of a good 4k disc, and as long as that's true your discs will look better than streaming everytime.

I suppose though for the normie (SDP would call them "boomers") who doesn't have a home theater or a truly quality T.V. (not the Best Buy special that someone says "looks great!" but a truly quality T.V.), then streaming is just fine because quality doesn't mean much to them.

Flashback Cinema did one in March with all participating chains. Marquee Cinema probably being the most common.

Fathom Events (the fuggers responsible for the Turtles Forever debacle) are doing a widespread one for two nights in August.

RAD! Hopefully the transfer is faithful to the original cinematography. Perhaps even cinematographer John Fenner was involved.

Can't wait to hear about the supplemental material. The Barron Menke workprint would be dreamy!

Between whatever is on this and the material coming from the TMNT doc crew, it's a great time to be a fan of the 1990 movie!

They're announcing their upcoming titles tomorrow for September/October releases.

I just hope it's not grainy as hell.....

The perfect example of a 4k transfer that did it right in regards to "90's Low-Tier Studio Film Grain" was the recent release of The Crow. If they pull that off with TMNT? Oh man it's going to be amazing..... because that Crow 4k is an absolutely amazing film-to-digital work of ultra high def.

It'll be interesting to see the transfer. By it's very nature, the film is super grainy from the exposure push to brighten the imagery after Barron was let go.

I personally don't mind grain. It adds to the funk and is natural.

I think we had this discussion a few years ago. You might remember a few people bugged up when I said that 300 was too grainy for HD, and the absolute-thinking-responses took over the rest of the conversation from there. That's why here I drew a comparison right away -

But I'm with you on "film grain as part of an experience", but sometimes 4k can just draw it out profusely. I dunno if you've seen the Crow 4k disc, but it should win awards for it's production.
