It's surprising to me how it's more expensive for Americans to fly to and back from Europe than the other way around. Like, OK flying to the US is not exactly cheap, but seems like it's twice or three times more expensive for you guys to fly here.

I think it's because airport fees might be lower here and there's also intense compeitition among airlines in Europe, ESPECIALLY all those low cost airlines like Ryanair, Easyjet, Wizzair, Vueling, Eurowings which sorta keep the regular airlines in check to not get their plane ticket prices way too high. Otherwise... everyone would just fly on the low cost airlines and run the KLMs, Air Frances, British Airways, TAPs, Turkish Airways, Alitalia's, etc out of business.
