.....maybe I'm ranting too much. but come on.....if they are going to introduce a character especially one who's plot is tied to the KRAANG! they could at least make her interesting.

Pretty much. The show isn't about April or Karai. I mean, I think it's implied that she hangs with the other turtles. They showed her in the lair hanging out and she lived there for a while... there's a lot of stuff that happens off camera that you're just supposed to assume. I bet they had to share a bathroom. Can you imagine the horrors of a teenage girl faced with the restroom habits of five eternal bachelors?? Could be funny scene... but do I want to see it in the show? Nope. That kind of stuff takes away from the action. There's bigger and better stuff happening that April's life, sorry to say. (And that's what fanfiction/fanart is for.)

And BabyTurtles... you're welcome to your opinion, but come on dood. I just gave you a whole list of reasons why April isn't just a love interest. Her character has always been the human element. She does the things the turtles can't, plain and simple. But I think she's gone above and beyond in this show with her sheer bravery. IDK, just my opinion I guess. I like her, I like Karai... I don't care if they add more ladies. I'd rather they develop both of these characters, but not at the expense of the stars of the show. What I really want to see is more turtles kicking ass.

It's not like I don't want to like her guys...I want to like her so bad....I just can't find anything compelling about her (the show can go on without her and no one would notice at this point)

I dunno, I think it's kind of funny as hell that April hasn't said Raph's name at all in over a season's worth of episodes.

April not being interesting is kind of her deal.
She's like... the poster child for lost potential, and always has been.
And when people can't think of what to do with her, they make her supernatural or paranormal in some way.

The same thing happens with Mikey too. Can't have him be the "everyman" because that's not schticky enough. Have to make him over the top class clown.

I'd love to have seen an episode regarding what it's like for her to have been on lockdown with the turtles, but then...slice of life stuff is my favorite. I love these characters not because of how well animated they are, or because of the "action" they're capable of participating in, but because of their personalities.

Can you imagine a riff on the Mirage issue "True Stories" set in the Nick'verse? How awesome it would have been to just have April narrate one episode following her experiences with all four turtles and Splinter on a personal level? That would have ruled!

It could, especially with the introduction of Casey...which opens the door for an exodus from New York. But, considering how during the interview Ciro mentioned how expensive it is to "build" sets, I'm not holding my breath.

Much as I like this incarnation of April, she's still pretty much a sardonic McGuffin in combat boots. Until the introduction of Casey she had no life that we could see outside of her relationships with the turtles. She stayed with an Aunt we never saw or heard. Is her mutant father living with her now? Or is she by herself above the junk shop? We don't know, and likely never will.

How do you guys honestly notice that April never said Raphael's name in 30 episodes or so? It's not something I would have ever realized if not seeing it just now.

Why is this a limitation to the "April tells stories about her and the guys" episode? Sure it might not be able to happen in Northampton, but it could happen in existing NYC sets.

Don't mean to be confrontational, but I'd hate to write off a potential story idea so easily.

Having missed that doorway, I decided to look for open windows.

Of course...several pages into a thread where people have mentioned time and time again how the female characters on the show aren't important, how they don't care about April, and how anything that detracts from the action is wholly unwelcome, is it really any wonder how easy it is for me to dismiss a story notion that centers around the sole female protagonist?

Would I love to see this happen?
Yes. I would most certainly love to see this happen.
"True Stories" is hands down one of my favorite Mirage Issues. It's arguably one of the few times in original canon we see April as a three dimensional character. It's where we see Leo doubt himself. Where Donnie shows his first inklings of being deeply introspective. Where Mike is shown having HORRIBLE coping skills. And Raph? Is the rock. The guy who has been the emotional basketcase is now the most even keeled of the bunch.

And we learn this through the eyes of the token chick being a person, not a McGuffin.

Seriously, what's not to love about that issue?

great now I want that to happen......T^T but if April can't even say Raph's name...what are the odds of having an entire episode from her point of view?

In my mind, Plastron, I could see it being used as her way of "introducing" the Turtles to Casey before he sees them. Have her describe the "friends" she mentioned in Target: April O'Neil. Heck, it could be mentioned that she hasn't spent as much time with him as usual because she's trying to rebuild the relationship with them, only to have him ask, "What's so special about these 'friends' anyway?" leading to the stories about the guys.

I mean there are ways...but then again, this would be a massive watering down of the issue...which...I....um...need too...um...read...

The kinds of stories told in the issue aren't really something I think she'd talk about to anyone, let alone Casey. It's not like the guy is overflowing with compassion. They're private thoughts committed to her journal.

She's strong in the issue not because of a training montage, out because she kicks butt, but because she loses quite literally everything... And keeps moving.

Seriously, find it. It's some of their best work.

Just finished...and yeah it'd have to take place in Northampton after loosing EVERYTHING to the Shredder. (In my minds eye I was seeing a more "Tales of Leo" style...which if ToL was an attempt at True Stories in the 4kids series, it's very much a fail.) Maybe it could be a season 3 opener...but then again, I'm not sure how they'd get to Northampton since I don't think the Human characters are of driving age....

I think a episode like that would feel stronger if they little to no music, zero dialogue with exception of April's journal narration, and high quality sound effects of the cold wilderness of Northampton to get sense of isolation between the characters. I could totally see it as an award winning episode but the only problem with it is that some kids might find the episode boring!

Then I hazard to say she doesn't really count as a female protagonist. Now if she shows up again and gets a name that's a horse of an entirely different color.

And I hope she does. That was awesome. Like Mrs Rosetti in Dooney's "Challenges" graphic novel.

Don't actually lose sleep on the name thing. I've no doubt that tumblr is hard at work making one for her.
