(kya had succeeded in getting Don to measure out ingredients without too much convincing. she caught him completely off gaurd when she pushed her sleeves up to her elbows and coated her arms liberally in flour.)

Kya: OK!!! get rid of those wrist bands and don't be shy with the flour. accuracy in the ingredients is approximate. Think of it as guide lines... not rules. Most of bread-making is Intuition.

(as she spoke, she put both hands into the bowl and started mixing the ingredients slowly as she counted out 30 seconds. She sped up and started counting out 2 minutes.)

Don was still staring at the mess... not the flour, but her arms.
Don: huh? intuition?

(he could see even through the layer of flour the thick weils that criss crossed on her forearms, puckering and pulling the skin as she moved, mixing the dough)

Kya... don? don? hello? ... it's just bread. It's really not that scary. (she hadn't looked up, still counting, but was waiting for a response) could you set the oven on it's lowest possible setting and soak a CLEAN towel in water? this is the "first rising"...

I'm gonna add just enough of the amount that we measured out to stiffen the dough. then you get to knead the living day lights out of it until it's got an even consistancy. (she dumps flour all over the counter top) do it here so it doesn't stick too bad. I'm gonna grease the pan, we'll put it in the oven to jump-start the yeast and we're done for 45 minutes or so. (she falls silent... completing the tasks she outlined before she slipped out of the kitchen)
