I don't buy it, if the toyline were to do far better than the show, why continue the show ? If it's not a big ratings draw, it's just bad for the network and an pointless expense for the toy company, just continue the toyline without the show in that case. If more people are buying the toys than those who are watching the show, then clearly the interest for the toys do not come from the show.

Also, I would like to see the numbers for the toy sales, this thread is all about numbers is it not?
The situation is also a bit mystifying for me too. The fandom keeps pointing out to this particular thread (and its solitary article) with the toy line being so "massively" successful, yet as impressive as the figure is, it doesn't mean much when there isn't a quantitative comparison to other toy franchises to rank just how successful the toy line is with the current competition. (It makes as much sense as boasting about an individual that can run a mile within 9 minutes, but if you don't have the numbers of the competition to compare it to, or have it in the right perspective [for example if the individuals are healthy or sick, an athlete or untrained, an adult or a child], the result doesn't mean much by itself.) Typically, merchandise sales parallel the audience reception of the show/movie itself, so it's bizarre how the article gives the impression of how big toy sales are when the viewership has been lukewarm at best.

For all we know in explaining this phenomenon, a big chuck of the merchandise success could be driven more by adult collectors and nostalgia interests rather than children (the targeted demographic) actually wanting the merchandise itself. It's odd to say the least that a greater proportion want to strictly buy TMNT merchandise (whether it's solely Nick's merchandise or not is unclear), but yet less and less people want to watch the Nick show.

I think that online streaming is taking away from the actual airing ratings.

Remember, everyone, 7 seasons and 150 episodes.

If this show makes less episodes than the 4kids cartoon I'll be very surprised.

Is it possible, maybe, people are just losing interest in the show. There hasn't been much in the action, and when there is, the Turtles are losing the fights, not kicking ass. Maybe a lot of kids are just tired of watching the Turtles losing their fights and trying to "find" themselves. Maybe the Turtles really do need Shredder in it to be successful?

I seriously think only five seasons will be made. It might get stale at seven.

Lair? How can a lair break your heart? Is that a French word or something?

Clearly the Turtle Lair caved in on his heart, thus breaking it.

Lack of ratings is due to lack of advertisement on Nick's part. I had no idea there was a new episode today. You go on Nick.com, and TMNT is buried under all the other programming going on.

This is really depressing to hear. I thought it was doing really well. I watched it both online and on tv when it aired, but I guess maybe others don't do that. Could it also have something to do with the long hiatus it had in between episodes? Some people do not have long enough attention spans to wait around for the show to come back on.

I hope Nick won't break my heart by canceling this show too soon.

Well, I read somewhere, that, while I prefer it to be on Friday nights, statistics show that Friday nights is the second most lowest of all the nights for TV, second to only Saturday nights.

But, like I've said, it seems to me, the down turn of the ratings happened right after Karai turned into a mutant. That may have been one too many mutants the show has done, and could have alienated some of the viewers.

Some good news for the Nick TMNT fans is that the latest episode ("Buried Secrets"), went up by about 0.3 million viewers, with a total of 1.665 million viewers.

Let's hope this holiday season, Nick will actually air new episodes during December to promote the toyline, and take advantage of January's weather to attract some more viewers.

They won't even air TMNT reruns during tomorrow's line up. Nick isn't helping TMNT at all. Maybe they do want it to fail so they can get out of any contracts and cancel it since it's so expensive to produce.
