Not at all shocking.

The turtles and splinter, size wise, appear to be just as they were described in the original script.

The turtles being tall (6' to 6'4"), large and muscular (I imagine something along the lines of the 2k3 series), and Splinter being small and yoda ish.

Fun story. I have the old DVD of the first movie. And by "old," I mean it has the paper cases DVDs came in, back when DVDs were new. On the spine, it reads Action. But the later, plastic case DVD, with the same features and box art, says Comedy.

For real?! It's not as good as the first film, but I actually enjoy it more than the second film (particularly because they use their weapons again.....that was one of the unforgiveable flaws of the 2nd movie). The villian isn't near as threatening at Shredder (at least in the first movie), but I still watch it more than the 2nd movie.

But any movie no matter how serious has to have comic relief. Take the Incredible Hulk when he hits his head on the cave, or when she says 'not even a little excited?' Jokes and comedy are a necessity of life. Everyone crack jokes weather it be to pick on someone or just make conversation.

"normal white boy"

Also, I'm sure that's canonical with this film, yes.

And btw, if we abandon this very weird, very irrelevant skin color debate (seriously!? They're green) and instead talk about cultural identity:
1. They could be anything.
2. They should - if you ask me - be Japanese* (what they've presumably grown up with), mixed with whatever American pop culture they can get their hands on.

* Hey Cubed, your opinion on the Turtles having a sewer shrine where they pray to sewer Gods? Just askin'...

I agree with you, sir. their dad is essentially Japanese. The Turtles themselves would be 1st generation Japanese Americans.

Making their OT disgust with sushi all the more puzzling.

Although sushi's just great no matter where you hail from.

Looking back at that, that was always so weird. Of course at the time I was kid so I just thought sushi was some 'weird icky Japanese food'. Even April, when offered, was eager to go back to the surface for 'real food'. Like Splinter was the only 'weird one' that liked the stuff.

Nowadays, I like me some yummy California Rolls and whenever I see such a scene whenever I re-watch an episode, it does seem so strange to me. I guess they really wanted to make it distinct that pizza was a turtle thing and sushi was a Splinter thing.

I was blind as a child, myself, but now? Sushi over pizza ANY day of the week. This may be blasphemy 'round these parts, but I've eaten so much pizza in my life I could just as soon never eat it again.

My dad worked at a pizzeria for a while. 5-7 days a week for years, you get sick of anything.

The thing that never gets old with pizza for me is that it can be prepared so many different ways. Even among the franchises, if I get sick of Pizza Hut, I switch to Papa Johns. Or try some small Italian restaurant. Or hell, make it myself. It's never really 'the same old thing' for me if I keep switching it up.

I think it's disgusting. Given I've even a vegetarian for years I thought it was horrible before that. It's more of an acquired taste than anything

I don't entirely get that. If anything, it's bland. I could see, maybe, squid being disgusting, but even then, moreso if it's still alive (some people eat it that way... I don't). Otherwise it's just bland and rubbery and tastes like whatever you season it with. Squid ain't bad. But if we're talkin' seafood, you gotta have shark. I can't remember the kind, but I had this bit of shark once upon a time that was so sweet and it just melted in my mouth. Sharks are good eatin'.

First time I tried sushi, I didn't like it. Then I tried every kind and by the end I didn't care what kind it was, I'd just wolf it down. I'd eat it every day if I didn't have to worry about mercury poisoning. Plus, the good stuff is expensive around here. Although there's this great Chinese buffet by me that puts out a decent selection. Love that stuff.

And yeah, other guy, re-size or hide that damn picture. Puh-lease.

The truly odd thing about them NOT eating sushi in the OT is that in the very beginning of the series, when they first visit the "Ninja" Pizzaria, Raph orders a sashimi pizza! (Though admittedly he's the only one who does....) And I agree with the belief that they should be at least partially "Japanese" in culture and upbringing, perhaps mixed with mainstream American pop-culture. After all, it's been established that they already SPEAK the language so why wouldn't they have traditional Japanese beliefs and food, too? Which reminds me of a question I need to go make a thread for- something I don't think anyone has ever really covered.....

I thought it was fish eggs that grossed the turtles out.

No, their dislike of sushi was the running gag.

Even Leo, who should know better.

LOL, I always thought that was the really ironic part, since he has always pretty much embraced everything else about the culture that Splinter taught them. He'll sit and meditate with him for hours, but won't touch the same food? WTH??!! I guess he's more teenager than ninja after all! (I know very few teens who will eat sushi.)
