SMW was pastel colored . Hell, 90% of Nintys SNES games were pastel colored o.O.

Anyway, the crazy 3D projection unit rumors were shot down today (source: PlanetGamecube )

11 days until E3. >_<

Meh, that was never my theory anyway. I'm thinking of something else alltoghther. Steroscopic stuff will be used in movies, but not gaming. Nintendo and 3D glasses/headsets don't mix. There are thons of other ways to do it though, but I'm not speculating on it.

11 days...........

Nintendo a Niche Player?
Yes, according to Microsoft's Bill Gates. Full story.

May 6, 2005 - Microsoft's new Xbox 360 console is still several months off from its rumored November debut, but the next-generation of trash talking has already begun.

A new article published by Business Week Online suggests that Microsoft head Bill Gates is more worried about Sony's next-generation console than he is Nintendo's. In the article, Gates seems to dismiss Nintendo's forthcoming Revolution console.

"Now people are looking really at two companies," Gates says on the subject of the next-generation consoles.. "I'd say that everyone's watching what Sony will come out with for this next generation, and what will we come out with, and who can be the leader this time around. Both companies will be very big on it. Nintendo is more likely to be a niche player this time around."

In a follow-up article, Sony takes a stab at Microsoft's new Xbox 360 console, painting the picture that it could be a mere marginal update to the current console.

"We look at delivering a quantum leap in technology, not just Xbox version 1.5," Sony spokeswoman Molly Smith is quoted as saying.

Ouch.

Honestly, he only did this because he probably knows something about Revolution we don't. He could pay for any kind of info he wants about Revolution simply by waving some cash in front of some poor mistreated and underpaid EA programmer with a Rev Dev kit. That, and he's down the street from Nintendo's HQ and could easily have some sort of listening device, though unlikely. He knows by unveiling the Xbox360 on MTV, the news at E3 will be rather "been there, done that" stuff. He's making these quotes simply to downplay them in the public eye so that he can downplay their E3 showing foe some feature of Revolution we don't know. It's probobly Rthe online features. Nintendo's going to provide more than what Xbox Live has for FREE, and he can't swing that, so he trashes it and plays up their "cool" image. That, and when Yamauchi dies, he's going to make another buy out move so he wants to downplay them to the public to lower their stock price so he can attempt a hostile takeover eventually.

It's the sound of a scared company. Nintendo has something we don't know and he does. Now I really can't wait.

Reminds me of a polite version of an old Sega Rep in 1992....

Same ole bullsh1t

That is one sleek mother. It looks really nice, and the white is a good color, too. I guess the name will be 360?

Awesome design, stupid name. Still, that thing does look damn nice.

I guess they took a page from Apple's book in the design department. PS3 and Revolution have a lot to live up to in the design department now.

GWGtrunks first reaction: WOW! Microsoft's finally making their own PC's!

After thinking about it for a while: The controler sucks, once again. The webcam looks too generic, as does the head set. The console's pretty... but it looks WAY too much like a PC tower. Then again, Microsoft's a computer company, so I guess that's okay. I don't like that little black thing ontop of it though. If you're going for all sleek, you don't smudge it with some ugly ass protrusion.

Where are the games? I coulden't care less about what the mofo looks like, I wanna see what kind of games it's gonna have.

Apparently we'll be seeing some games during the MTV special. I'm pretty excited. It's like a sneak preview of E3.

That's the harddrive and I'm pretty sure you can take it off.

I sure as hell hope so.

Wasn't it confirmed that Xbox360 wouldn't have a HDD? Even so, seems kinda silly to make a hard drive detachable... isn't that what memory cards are for?

At risk of making as ass of myself, I'm going to assume Microsoft lost a few friends in the press because of that move. I've said it on these boards before... the gaming press just isn't something you want against you (look what it did to Nintendo).

yeah, and microsoft's fans aren't half as loyal (in general) and are more willing to believe the press (again, in general).

I can tell you that most people at AMN are pissed over the MTV thing because it killed some exclusives we had coming. IGN is supposedly pissed as well, and they teamed up with G4 for E3 coverage this year. Not a good thing to happen before you're even out of the gate.

I still believe that Microsoft is trying to slowly convert console gaming into "PC gaming in a box" so they can control the playfield easier. I also think it's going to be harder for third parties to port their games to various consoles because each one is looking to be so different. Frankly, Xbox360 is so far th emost generic. Basically, it's a current console on steroids. PS3 is a raw super computer that no one knows how to program for, and Rev is a big black box that no one knows what in the hell it is. I think each system is going to see more exclusives this time around because of their differences.

GWG, you already made an ass of yourself with this comment.

Anyways, Xbox 360 is the only console I know I'm going to own 100%. Revolution is about 85%, but I'm sure it'll jump to 100 after E3.

What Gates said is true though. I have to agree with him. Nintendo will be a niche market. Just go into any game store and look at how the Gamecube section is shrinking. My local EB's have 2 walls devoted entirely to PS2 and Xbox each, and one small corner, about 3 feet wide, for not only Gamecube, but GBA and DS as well. Nintendo is just fighting a losing battle now. They're going to have to pull something HUGE out at E3 to change their position and I have a lot of doubts about that.

GameStop's GameCube section is surprisingly small here, too. Eventually Nintendo fans are going to have to like, buy their games on the black market or something. But I have faith! Revolution will stun me...I hope.

And the Xbox controller is fine. I don't know what you're talking about. The big version, maybe, but not the small version.

Yeah, I hope they pull it out too. I have a little faith left.

And yeah, what the hell is up with people and their ridiculous bashing of the Xbox controller? That whole argument died once they came out with the controller S, but people keep it up.

Yeah, it really gets on my nerves as well. People need to give up loyalty to a company and play good games. If it's a good game, play it. Simple as that.

Well, regarding the Gates thing....you know what I'm gonna say so I'll just keep my mouth Shut. He just wants to own them. That's why he said it.

And the DS/GBA section at my Gamestop is just as wide as the PS2 and Xbox sections. The Gamecube's life on the market has indneed been pathetic, but with a new console comes new possibilities. We shall see......in 7 days.

Revolution To Debut Mid-2006?

May 10, 2005

by: Larry McCormick

GCA FIRST: New, reliable information is available suggesting a debut period for the Revolution.
Monolithic Systems Technology Inc., perhaps better known to most simply as MoSys, announced its quarterly earnings at 5:15 PM yesterday in a conference call. MoSys is the company behind the fast 1T-SRAM technology employed by the GameCube and is apparently involved similarly in the development of Nintendo's upcoming Revolution console as well.

Among the earnings information and "shop talk" present in the conference call, a tasty little nugget of Revolution info is present:

"During the quarter we announced that NEC Electronics will now use our
1T-SRAM embedded memory technologies on their advanced 90nm process, and that the initial designs to be incorporated in SoCs will be used in
Nintendo's next-generation game console, code-named Revolution," said Mark Voll, Interim CEO and Chief Financial Officer of MoSys. "We are excited to be a participating member of the Nintendo team once again as Nintendo will roll out its successor game console to the GameCube in mid-2006."

Nintendo has yet to announce an official release date for Revolution, but has maintained that the console will launch roughly around the same time as Sony's PlayStation 3 console, which itself is currently headed for a launch in 2006, also without a specific, official release date. Whether or not the date affirms to the Japanese or North American market is uncertain at this point, but it's still a reliable estimate. MoSys' involvement also shoots down a popular rumor that purported the Revolution would use 512 MB of RAM, but no 1T-SRAM.

With E3 right around the corner (next week) and Nintendo's statements that Revolution will be discussed, GCA expects more information relating to the hardware in the system and the contributions of partner companies like NEC and ATI.

Look for GCA to have plenty of Revolution coverage in the coming days.

Thanks to AMN Reader, Barry O Halloran for pointing this out.

Pre-E3: New GBA; Revolution Video

May 10, 2005

by: Ray Almeda

BREAKING: Gamesindustry.Biz is reporting that Nintendo's apparent surprises during the media briefing include a new GBA & Revolution footage.
According to a report early this morning by GamesIndustry.Biz, Nintendo of America is rumored to be showing off a new GBA, an update to the existing hardware, at their press conference on May 17th.

According to the British publicaton:

"The new GBA, however, is categorically not the "GBA2", Nintendo's genuine next-generation handheld console. The system is expected to be an update to the existing GBA hardware, perhaps sporting built-in wireless networking and the Play-Yan adapter for playing downloadable games and videos, both of which have up until now been separate components."

In addition, several rumors are coming into the light as insider reports have already spilled some of the beans on Nintendo's Revolution plans at E3:

"...sources close to the company have revealed that no Revolution hardware or specs will be discussed, with the console appearing only as a video of next-gen footage."

Although the news is bound to disappoint many anticipating Nintendo's reason for the system-name moniker, the Big N may just want to take a back seat to the expected PS3 versus Xbox 360 battle at the show.

When asked by GameCube Advanced about the situation, one of our Nintendo contacts could not comment on "any rumors or speculation." Again, take this newly acquired information with a grain of salt, as Nintendo has yet to confirm any of this official.

With Nintendo's Pre-E3 Press Conference exactly a week from today, expect the plot to thicken leading up to the media briefing.

source: GamesIndustry.Biz

-----------------------------

This just sounds like a re-confirmation of the big rumors floating around the internet. "New GBA according to CNN", and "They won't show Revolution" blah blah. Honestly, if they don't show it then I'm loosing hope that the Nintendo console brand will survive the next generation. If they don't show it, they're dead. Simple as that. If they do, then we've been played, again. That'll make me happy, but if GameIndustryBis is right (which I doubt), then Nintendo's goose is cooked in consoles permenantly. I'm holding out that they want to supprise us and this is all a setup. You know how they like the play the E3 rumor system to their advantage.

Now, the new GBA with a slightly bigger screen, built in wireless, backlit LCD and built in Play Yan would be a great idea to keep the GBA line alive alongside the DS for another year or more. I'd definately buy it just for the screen upgrade just because I'm the kind of person who likes to play GBA ga,es on a GBA and DS games on a DS. I don't like the waste a system on games that wern't particularly meant for it. BUT, the whole thing could just be GameIndustryBis attempting to drag out that old CNN news from February that " Revolution woon't be shown and they'll have a new Game Boy"

Believe nothing. We find out in 7 days exactly now.

DS Online Service Made Official

May 10, 2005

by: Ray Almeda

BREAKING: Nintendo and GameSpy have joined up for some online fun. This is the real deal folks.
In an optimistic press release posted early this morning, Nintendo of America has officially announced that it is partnering with IGN Entertainment to create a Wi-Fi service for the Nintendo DS.
GameCube Advanced exclusively confirmed to the world the soon-to-be GameSpy/Nintendo online service partnership in a one-on-one interview with GameSpy President Jon Epstein in 2003.

This is also hot on the heels of the news first broke by DS Advanced that Nintendo's dual-screen handheld would be receiving the online treatment [at GDC]. The news was first confirmed on Nintendo's official magazine, Nintendo Power.

Set to debut later this year, the Nintendo DS will use IGN's GameSpy Technology to let people around the world link easily and wirelessly to play games - "just as if they were playing face to face" - according to the Tuesday press release.

The service and access to hotspots around the globe will be FREE-of-charge, [excluding possible publisher-dependant subscription fees].

"With minimum setup procedures, Nintendo DS owners will be able to enjoy Wi-Fi gaming just as easily as if they were playing with their friends in the same room," explains Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "To realize this simple and seamless transition to Wi-Fi gaming, we're partnering with one of the leaders in the multiplayer gaming world. Accessing the service will require no added Nintendo subscription charges, whether users hook up using a home broadband Wi-Fi connection or access a Wi-Fi hotspot at a coffee shop, library or elsewhere. It doesn't get any easier than that."

The service will be used by several upcoming games, including the already-announced Animal Crossing DS. Expect more details for DS' online software at E3 2005.

Finally, it was also revealed that:

DS owners can choose whether they would like to play with friends or strangers, whether nearby or on the other side of the world."

The new service is a first for portables for IGN's GameSpy Technology.

"We're excited to bring the technology that powers more than 300 PC and console video games to Nintendo's innovative wireless platform. Now developers can easily and confidently add advanced matchmaking, community and other multiplayer services to their Nintendo DS games," says Mark Stieglitz, general manager of IGN Entertainment's GameSpy Technology Group. "We're honored that Nintendo is choosing IGN's GameSpy as their middleware partner, and look forward to a very long relationship."

We'll have more on this breaking development, leading up to our exclusive and expanded coverage of the Nintendo DS at next week's E3 2005.

Official. HOT DAMN. Needed some good news today

The online network is everything I had hoped it would be. GLOBAL!
