All I saw for a while was a first printing that was going for 50 bucks. Now I like the Turtles, but that's a lot when the colorized graphic novel is an option too.

I don't even care about color. I just wanted it collected into one book.

Not much of an update:

I can't say when that will happen, partly because -- to be COMPLETELY honest -- doing these reprints doesn't pique my interest very much, and thus I have been dragging my feet on putting them together. But who knows -- that could change. And at some point -- maybe when I am finished with it-- I'd like to do a big Vol. 4 collection.

I love how he acts like everyone reads the letters column. Like sorry but I have better things to do then read rants from fans and stupid comments like "Oh my God I LOOOOVE your comic!" Uh yeah...sometimes the responses are even worse. Plus if any useful news is stated then someone else who does read it usually posts about it.

Isn't it exactly the same here? Or Pete's blog?

The huge difference here is if they say something stupid I can respond to it and I know they will read it.

Yea, Laird has become a bit of a cranky old man to his fans. Then again, Tolkien was the same way. I can understand his feelings havng said these before.

I guess it's a little understandable if the creator of a popular series has to listen to fanboys who think they know best all the time.

At the same time though...why not re-release the old comics? I think comic fans everywhere deserve it.

And this is why the fans keep asking, they want to give him money and he says no.
It just doesn't make sense in today's market to not do trades, if nothing else, it would help vol. 4, since it would let interested people catch up without having to resort to the comic stores.

Most of the new comic readers in recent years (especially the ones coming in from Manga) only know the book store market and only know trades. Why not introduce the franchise to a whole new market?

I would LOVE to buy more turtle comics, and I'd happily buy the whole series, but I just plain don't do 'comics' anymore.

How come? You can't have trades without the comics there in the first place, and if the comics aren't selling, where's the incentive to collect them? ESPECIALLY with Turtles, where it's doing it all on its own. Why say you'd love to do it and that you'd happily buy the whole series and then say you don't do comics anymore? It's like saying "I'd be happy to support you, but I won't".

I don't think this argument applies to tablesalt's point. The books he, and everyone else, wants collected are long out of print and buying them on the secondary market does nothing to help Mirage. And individual comic books take up a hell of a lot more space than a few trades. On this alone I can completely understand the people who "don't do comics."

Sure, you could have the trades alone, it's a choice. But that's neither here nor there. I don't want comics, and I don't care if they are there or not. I only want to buy what I want to buy, I don't care how it gets there. And it's not my fault that Mirage insists on running its business like it's 1988. There are far less known brands and far smaller companies that sell me the trades I want through amazon, or other bookstores. Why should I settle for less?

I never said 'I support you,' and I don't. I don't 'support' any company. In the consumer/producer relationship, the burden is on the producer to convince the consumer to buy, and to produce a product that accomplishes that. Mirage isn't doing that for me; therefore, I don't buy.
By 'I don't do comics' I mean monthlies, I'm done with them, and I'll probably never set foot in a comic store again.

If they provide the product I want tomorrow, then I will buy tomorrow.

If they go out of business because they refuse to recognize that the market has changed, well, that's their problem. This isn't ill will (or bashing, as some would call it). I'm just treating them the way I do any other company.

I know, I never took it as ill will, it just read rather strangely. If you go back and look at what you wrote (and this is how I read it), it looks like you've written that you would love to buy more turtle comics (as in monthlies), and would happily buy the whole set (of monthlies) but you just don't do comics (monthlies). I also didn't say that you did or didn't say anything, I said it was LIKE saying... But ultimately it doesn't really matter, it's me misinterpreting what you said, and I apologise.

I totally understand the space issue, and that these books are long overdue, and completely agree with these points. I think it makes perfect sense to bring them out, especially with the 25th ann. coming up. It was just me misinterpreting that last point that threw me out. Ignore me, it's been a long and infuriating week for me so far...
