Cool! And no problem, do it at your own pace. I want to read them, but like I said, I haven't really been reading them lately either. I got about...hmm...halfway into the one-volume one, and never came back to it yet. I love TMNT and I love manga both, but for some reason this one wasn't resonating with me. But, I'll work my way through it as a labor of love soon enough.

My comic reviews and especially my articles tend to get the most pagehits so I figure that's what the majority of my readers want to see.
On the one hand, I'm surprised the public revealing of the TMNT manga hasn't achieved the same sort of cult appreciation as that TMNT OVA review that ScaryCrayon did a few years back.

Still, TMNT Black & White manga adaptations of a bizzare subsection of the franchise is a bit of a hard sell for the general public (although the Japanese TMNT section on my Flickrstream does get quite a few hits). I'm just surprised more TMNT fans haven't received it a bit more warmly since anybody who posts on this forum is pretty much head-deep into the weirdness that is the TMNT mythos.

I remember when you started up the translation for Mutant Turtles Gaiden, there were some complaints about the blogspot format. I think your setup works great for referencing pages and provides a chance for user comments and your own notations about specific linguistic/cultural references. Still, I can understand why some people might find it cumbersome to individually load each page post by post. You might consider creating an alternative repository where all the pages are more readily available for viewing.

Have you considered actual reviewing the issues once you finish translating them? It would be a nice way to cap off the translation and we'd actually get to hear your candid take on the story/art/concept/etc. It might be a good intro "drug" for getting people to actually go read the translations.

Anyway... you're my hero, Spengs! Keep it up!

Yeah, Volume 1 of Super Turtles is pretty basic, so I could see why you lost interest.
Bad guys find magic stones, get super powers. Good guys find magic stones, get super powers. They fight. Good guys prevail.
Volumes 2-3 seem to have a bit more meat to the plot. But my favorite is still the Mutant Turtles Gaiden issue for its reimagining of the TMNT story and its distinctive art style.

I've no problem with anyone taking my translations and uploading them to rapidshare or however that stuff works. I don't own them and never make any claims like that (if I was a colossal douche I'd slap ugly watermarks on the thing to feed my own ego, but I don't roll tha way).

So if anyone wants to spread them around, then go for it. At least that way, if Viacom does crack down on me in the future, they'll already be out there in other venues and possibly in places where Viacom will have a tougher time getting rid of them.

Apparently, as Adam showed me, some Russian fans have taken my translated pages and begun their OWN translation project.

Japanese to English to Russian? Gotta wonder how much is getting lost in the process.

And though few people read the translated manga I post, I'm surprised at how many people are interested in Japanese Ninja Turtles stuff. My History of the TMNT in Japan article gets at least a hundred pageviews a week.

Yeah, I definitely think people are curious about the TMNT's presence in Japan on a general level (likewise my Flickrstream), but few probably care enough to sit down and read a whole comic. Similarly, I'm guessing few people who read the ScaryCrayon review of the OVA have actually seen the anime all the way through.

At the end of the day, maybe people are just too lazy after all?

I think for me it is that laziness, mixed with how many comics I read online as it is. I read the weekly chapters for a few other manga as they come out (I buy too though before anyone can thwack me for that ), not to mention forum time, so finding time to make myself read a full thing (even short ones like this) are hard for me.

TMNT and Japan definitely interests me though. The idea is so Japanese to begin with, even beyond the ninja stuff. I mean...walking, bipedal turtles, fighting...that just sounds like something weird Japan would come up with to me LOL.

Nice job, dude! Looks like you've surpassed my manga stash. Although... I can at least take pride in the fact that I paid far less dough for mine.

Always my pleasure to do so, Buffy!

Here are some contents that you aspiring colorists can color in and print out yourself!

Sorry they are a bit blurry, but that's the scan setting I had to use in order to prevent the image on the opposite side of the page from bleeding through.

Congrats at finally receiving the fruits of your search! I know the excitement that comes with opening up a new book with no clue what might be inside! I hope it gave you the same thrill! Hopefully, we'll be getting those last two books of Super Turtles translated into English over the next year or two!
