I was unaware that they were originally comic book characters. I didn't find out otherwise until the 2003 show came out. The only comics that I had seen up until that point had been some of the Archie comics.

Like others have mentioned, I never understood why the original NES game had them all in red on the cover. Their Mirage counterparts were unknown to me for the longest time.

I never got into comic books as a kid. They were too short, and I always got irritated when I finished one in a few minutes and had to wait. It still bugs me. All single issues I've ever owned stack about a foot high.

That being said, I did have this volume, as a kid.

I was convinced that I owned volume one of the original ninja turtles comic, and that the cartoon was a very faithful adaptation.

In my defense, I was born in '87...

I didn't have knowledge about the comics or the 2003 series until fairly recently, I just finished watching the 2003 series this past Thanksgiving and what a great series it was.

And I thought the red sky episodes were a different show from the first 7 seasons of the original show until I saw the episode guide.
I NEVER realized that about Kluh!!! Wow that's so cool!!

The first movie made me realize the Turtles were very different from the cartoons. When I saw the movies I figured the comics would have human Foot Soldiers and Splinter would be mutated from a rat.

If anything the first movie was almost like our gateway drug to the Mirage comics.
I remember feeling that about the movies, too. I didnt read the original comics as a kid (just Archie), so when I saw the first movie, being used to the OT cartoon, I was confused about Raphael's behavior and wondered why he was so mad all the time lol! And one thing I also remember thinking about it was wondering why it seemed to be night all the time in the movie and that a lot of the scenes were dark.

Raph being nothing like his cartoon self in the first movie. My friends and I couldn't figure out why he was the focus of the first half of the movie.

I had no idea that they only did 3 of the 4 turtles for Jim Lee's set. I was happy to see a bootlet set that had all 4.

The typical thing most fans thought that only knew about the OT.

wondering why they 'messed up' and had all four turtles wear red on the cover of the NES game
wondering why Raph was so angry and swearing in the movie
I always thought the movie had human Foot soldiers and whatever due to them not having the budget to go all out with robot Foot Soldiers, Bebop, Rocksteady, Krang and the Technodrome.
I thought Aska was a Mirage TMNT character, not a Konami original.

Luckily I read up alot on the Mirage stuff before the 2K3 cartoon came along or I woulda been confused.

Yah, that too...I remember being confused that the members of the Foot were humans and not robots.

I never questioned the NES cover, since the colors was okay in the game itself. And I knew very quickly that the Archie comic and the cartoon was based on another comic that I had never read.

It wasn't until much later when I had free access to the Internet on school that I found ninjaturtes.com and learned more about Mirage comics, the original mask colors and that a new cartoon (2k3) was in the making.

I was never a huge fan of the Fred Wolf series as a kid, we didn't have the channel that was showing it, so I mostly got to see episodes by VHS rental, which was often the more crummy episodes, like Super Irma and the Musketeer episode, and the terrible dubbing didn't help either. Don and Mikey sounded like helium frogs, and Krang was basically the same voice April had only with a echo filter on.

So my focal point was the Archie comics, the Live-Action movie and the action figures.

I think his father's name was Ammag, which is Gamma spelled backwards.

I wanna say the Kirby World characters have similar names, of 4th World characters names backwards.
Yep...I was right!

That is correct.

Maybe Kluh's full name is Kluh Elbidercni (spell it backwards), I think that's very possible even though it wasn't mentioned.

Oh, I remember being confused as to why Casey was in the first Turtles movie. Seeing only the OT, I thought he was only a guest character like Leatherhead or the Frogs, and wondered why they threw in a 'guest character' in the first movie instead of waiting for the sequel.

You know, now that you mention it, I never questioned Casey. Maybe I had the toy before I saw the movie....*shrugs*

Same here, even though they explode in the games.

For some reason I alway thought he was a bigger part of the ot then he was. Untill I went back and started watching it again a few years ago. Maybe becuase I liked him so much as a kid.

I remember when I first heard of the Mirage comics it didn't sound too appealing. I didn't like the idea of the Ninja Turtles killing people. But then when I finally read the comic I realized there was more to them than just fighting baddies.

When I first read the name "Utrom", I thought it said "Utron". And I used to think it was pronounced You-trom until I saw The Search For Splinter Part 2.
