I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure the Chicago influence only appeared once dark knight was filmed there. If you ask me, Chicago itself is nothing like the Gotham I would see or read about as a kid, except for the gang violence

Gotham was always an amalgam of a few cities. Chicago and Detroit being the main two.

It's really nothing like NYC. Metropolis is closer to that really.

We all know how it works. If the groundhog emerges from its burrow and all is well, that means spring is coming early; if it emerges from its burrow, sees its shadow, and goes back into its burrow... that means winter continues for another six weeks.

With TMNT, every additional mass media incarnation -- particularly the movies -- that come out that are ghastly, kid and toy-pandering debacles... each one of these keeps signifying another 5-10 years of pop culture continuing to believe that is the definitive Ninja Turtles, when it's anything but. And the clock just keeps being reset 5-10 years on this, over and over again.
Your usual brand of whining and self-centered entitlement issues never ceases to entertain me Andrew.

Maybe it's time you realized nobody gives a f*ck about what YOU and the boring-ass MIRAGE/IDW crowd consider the "definitive" vision and you lot should just enjoy the various interpretations? If people want to pick a vision that they think lines up with what they think the franchise should be, why should they be judged by idiots like you as having the wrong idea? Without reinterpretation, you get the same old thing, and that's not how franchises work you uneducated idiot.

i think reserving judgement til the damn movie is made and released is prolly the most sensible thing to do (OBVIOUSLY).

people can whine that they dont want a campy kids flick or that going too dark and staying too true to the mirage vibe will ruin it for today's gen of fans, but the fact is this is going to be a new movie and whatever comes out is going to be the film face of the franchise.

if its good, AWESOME! if its bad...well, more of the same according to the majority of fans that weren't feeling TNM or '07. but nothing changes the fact that now, apparently, filming will start in april for a release early next year.

THIS IS GOOD NEWS.

quit whining, show support and hope for the best.

(and for the record, metropolis is dc's analog for chicago, gotham for nyc. yes, despite the fact that both those cities exist in the dcu.)

Boy. Somebody in the DC office got that wrong if that's actually the case. Having lived across the bridge from NYC most of my life and working a bunch in Chicago.....it's backwards on looks atleast.

(Then again most people here can't tell the difference between Manhattan and Brooklyn so maybe it's entirely possible)

Nope. Metropolis and Gotham are both in New York and both on the east coast and always have been.

If anything, Metropolis and Gotham are like the "light" and "dark" sides of the same New York coin... despite there actually being a New York in the DCU.

I'm pretty sure Metropolis is in Delaware. And Gotham's been depicted as being in Connecticut, NJ, and New York over the years.

Might even be a slight presence at SDCC this July. Maybe in the form of a teaser poster or something. The release date is still subject to change, though. As of now its set for 16th May 2014. Godzilla is also set for the same day, which comes from Warner Bros.. No way two studioss would dare release two of their summer tentpoles on the same day. One of them will definitely move. I just hope the move isn’t too drastic for either, as I’m looking forward to both.

If it's set for may of next year then I would hope they some sort of presence at comic con this year, being that its coming out before next years comic con. I'm curious to see what its going to be.

If they are actually shooting in April it's entirely realistic for there to be a SDCC panel. It's the definitive venue for them to hype of the release for next summer.

Their goal is likely to finish principle photography before the second week of July just in time for the con. They'll show a little scene or montage, my guess.

Preregistration tickets for SDCC 2013 sold out very fast, and general registration begins sometime in early 2013. If you want a ticket... sign up for a free comic con account and set it to notify you. Tickets will probably sell out in an hour or so. Better be prepped. Gonna be a big year for TMNT fans!

My question is: Will Vanilla Ice be making a cameo?

not talkin geographically, but socio-politically, i guess. plus, it says so in one of the dc encyclopedias, i'm para-phrasing, but the small entry is something along the lines of, well...gotham being dc's ny analog and metropolis being its chicago analog. pretty straightforward from an official dc source.

and yeah, last i heard, metropolis was in delaware and gotham in connecticut.

To be fair this being a good movie or not is not going to hinge on where the Turtles come from.

Let's get on topic, guys.

Do you suspect there will be calls for extras in the NY scenes? I live on Long Island, I'm definitely going to find out where they're filming.

That would be incredibly cool! I wonder if there will be any filming in LA. They should do a shout out to fans that would like to volunteer for it.

QFT - it's common knowledge that "Gotham" is indeed it's own city in the DCU - that said, it is indeed "modeled" after NYC, albeit loosely. Oh, and yes, "Gotham" is and has been a nickname for NYC for 100+ years, but that doesn't mean that in the DCU, Gotham = NYC, because it doesn't.

So Spectacular Spider-Man 2 started filming already. I wonder if we're really gonna get a May release.
