I donno maybe, the third Rambo movie was in 88 and the third Die Hard was in 95, it's not too far off as the third Robocpo movie from 93. Although, the Robocop sequels aren't that well known in the general audience compared to the other franchises.

Yeah, no sh*t. Figure of speech, hence the period instead of a question mark.

I feel like we'll get a TMNT trailer very soon, or some kind of official release.
Only big buzz it could get now is if it were Rated R, but we know that's not going to happen.

true i thought the third robocop was earlier though your right not many know or care about the sequels. one common theme here though is that fact that they were all rated R and stayed Rated R correct me if im wrong but the robocop movies known for the violence and gore turned into a p13 robot fighting movie

I remember when the original came out in 90, there was a ton of commercials for it. Before that, the teaser poster just had the 4 turtle heads coming out of the sewer. This made me soooo rabid to see the turtles.

You would think they would do the same thing for kids today. They should do a parody poster of the 2014 turtles, like the 90's poster. At the age of 10 seeing that makes you feel like you're going to see a movie for adults (NO, not that kind of movie).

But I digress, if GotG shows adds during Sat. morning cartoons, done. Kids will be begging to see that instead.

I'll watch it for the raccoon with machine gun, but overall I'm more interested in TMNT 2014.

I dunno. As someone who knows absolutely nothing about Guardians of the Galaxy (as I'm sure most average joe's don't either), I can't say the trailer particularly struck my fancy. The concept itself of five oddballs with their kind of histories forming together into some kind of alliance is pretty interesting, but I pretty much lost interest after seeing the raccoon.

Yeah, making the remake a pg-13 was a real disservice, most people remembers the original for its gore and not it's intellectual social commentary, which is kinda sad but understandable.

I haven't seen the remake due to busy schedule, but by the trailers I think the way Murphy becomes Robocop was way more gruesome then the original. Sure the gunfire execution was horrible and gory to watch, but at least Murphy died. The remake Murphy survived with quite the disability with his burns. And the interesting parts as keeping his human hand and actually seeing his family in more then just flashbacks.

But, I can imagine it suffers in the action gore department as The Total Recall remake.

If anything the raccoon makes it more interesting especially when you know eho it is! and it has a top cast. John C. Riley who has terrific range. Bradley cooper, Batista! Which you gotta think has a lot of the WWE crowd already on board, vin diesel, list goes on and on. The trailer got me interested.

I know/knew absolutely nothing about the GotG, and I've been an avid comic book reader for the majority of my teens and adulthood.

The trailer still got me super excited and now it's a must see movie.

Perhaps trailers are more important than I imagined. If the vast majority of people are unfamiliar with Guardians of the Galaxy, and this trailer has gotten them so pumped by only showing the characters, a good trailer for a well-known property like TMNT could do wonders.

I mean, what if the turtles trailer was just as good?

(Honestly, I don't even know what a "good" trailer is, anymore, after mere character introductions have set the internet ablaze.)

I think it's a combination of things with the GOTG trailer.

1) The unfamiliarity with the characters. The weirdness factor of that team especially seeing Rocket Raccoon firing a machine gun atop Groot. I think it captures the audience similar to what TMNT did when people first saw it.

2) It seems to have it's tongue planted firmly in cheek with the characters adds charm. (The scenes mentioning Quill's superhero alias Star Lord)

3) Between the capture of Star Lord in the temple at the beginning to the montage with "Hooked on a Feeling" playing over it at the end, it's selling itself as a ridiculously fun time. I imagine there's still going to be a lot of heavy stuff seeing as how important this is going to be to Avengers 3 when Thanos appears as the main villain.

As a trailer there isn't much there in terms of story unless you're familiar with the franchise, I think it delivers on capturing the audience's interest for these unfamiliar characters as well as embracing the ridiculousness of it all.

Trailers are everything. You can talk about your movies all you want, show as many stills online as you can, but that stuff won't make one fraction of the sale that a trailer will. They will ultimately make or break a film's initial success. If a movie has an amazing trailer but then sucks, then it'll have a great opening weekend and then drastically drop off. If it has a great trailer and delivers the goods, then you have Iron Man.

The posturing on this forum by all of the people who already hate this movie is laughable. We get it, your knowledge reigns supreme over all, and you have decided that this movie has no chance to be good in any way. Perhaps that will turn out to be true, but the fact remains that you only have an opinion based on fairly limited knowledge.

So of the movies that I see people trashing on here (Man of Steel?!) just make me scratch my head. If this movie turns out to be as good as Green Lantern (which most of you also seem to hate), I will be very satisfied. There is still so much unknown about this movie.. I will wait to see it. It seems to me like some people need to lower their standards for what they expect from a TMNT movie. It won't have any implication on your health, family life or financial well-being, so maybe just accept it as entertainment. If you can relax a bit and let it entertain you, even if it isn't literally the greatest movie ever made, it can still be enjoyable.

The bottom line is that even asking the question "has GOTG already won August" is far beyond ridiculous. I feel confident that if I polled 500 random people on the street and asked them for their thoughts on these two upcoming movies, most people would know nothing about either of them. If I asked 500 random people, in general have you ever heard of GOTG and TMNT? I think the score would be about 497 for TMNT to maybe 50 for GOTG. So there are likely a huge number of people who saw the GOTG teaser and really don't know what it is, other than a movie.

No one has won August, 95% of people haven't considered anything they'll be doing in August, let alone which of TMNT or GOTG they will be going to see in theatres.

So many fallacies in this post I'm not even sure where to start.

Okay, you're right. We pretty much have nothing on what this movie will be. But the fact that Paramount isn't promoting this at all (our first look at the turtles was though a HALLOWEEN COSTUME, for God's sake!) isn't boosting our confidence that it will be any good. Plus the tidbits we have are very polarizing to longtime fans: the Foot Clan as some sorta military thing, Vernon having a big role, the initial rumor that the turtles would be aliens (that isn't true anymore, thank God), etc. Even if Ninja Turtles is the greatest film in cinematic history, it doesn't sound like it'll be a good TMNT movie, per se.

You know what, you go on right ahead and do that in one or two weeks. By then lots of people will know about GotG because the trailer came out, and plus there are a lot more people keeping themselves updated on Marvel movies than TMNT movies.

It has nothing to do with whether anyone's heard of the franchise. Robocop did terribly at the Box Office. Everyone's heard of Robocop. But no Marvel Cinematic movie has done poorly at the box office - even Thor and Iron Man! What non-comic fan had heard of those guys before their movies came out? Everyone will see GotG because the Marvel logo was at the beginning of the trailer.

Lots of movie studios disagree with you. Release dates for films change all the time in order for their films not to release near other anticipated box-office hits. They're always wary that one film will "win" money over another.

'Dumb and dumber to' is planning on releasing its movie sooner, so when that is moved up to, will have a big effect.

Yep.

The whole "nobody's heard of GotG/knows what it is" argument goes right out the window when you say "Iron Man."

Nobody save for comic book fans knew who Iron Man was and now, thanks to a creative team who gave a damn and respected the source material, a studio willing to put the effort and money behind the project, and a fantastic cast of actors, Iron Man is a household name.

And that was BEFORE all the Avengers hype. They managed to make Iron Man HUGE based on nothing but great trailers and fantastic word of mouth.

GotG has an equal if not BETTER chance than Iron Man did. Now because Marvel Studios is a proven brand with quality product and a lot, A LOT, of good faith and hype behind it.

I'm not really a betting man, but gun to my head? I think it's going to do great. Maybe not Avengers numbers but then it really doesn't need to do those types of numbers.
