I can't speak for most people, but I absolutely could not learn how to put contacts in. And my mother trains people to wear them for a living; I am literally the only person she hasn't been able to get in contacts. I'm going to assume that most people do get the hang of it, I'm just overly sensitive to things near my eye. [I can't even take showers, I bathe instead because I can't have anything near my eyes. I'm sensitive and I hate it lmao PUTTING ON EYE MAKEUP FOR COSTUMES IS MY WORST NIGHTMARE and doctors have had to hold me down to put drops in my eyes]

I haven't been a kid in a long time, so I have no idea if its still like that.
I was never made fun of for wearing glasses as a kid, and mine were just about as nerdy as they came. Big round frames, thick lenses. Nobody I knew that wore them really got made fun of either.

I've never had a problem touching my eyes, so putting contacts in was never a problem. But that putting them in backwards thing is a pain. I have to look them over before I pop them in to make sure they didn't flip over when I took them out the night before. You know immediately if they are in wrong though!

My other main problem is lint on my fingers that sticks to the lens. I was my hands, don't dry, and invariably I'll have something get on a lens. Just take it out and start over.

I love my contacts though. Some people complain about them drying out or whatever, but I never have much of a problem (except during spring allergies, but my eyes woud itch no matter what then)

I'm another one with stereotypical nerd specs - thick, black rims. Been wearing them for almost 20 years now. Used to get the piss ripped out of me something rotten at school, fast forward a decade and everyone's wearing 'em - go figure!

It was even worse when I was playing basketball - after breaking 3 pairs of glasses in a single season, my parents finally bought me some Horace Grant-style sports goggles. I looked ridiculous - old-school kicks, knee-high socks, short shorts (during the height of MJ & Fab Five mania, when baggy shorts were a must), topped off with my goggles - but I soon shut up the haters when we started playing...

I have glasses but I'm REALLY bad at wearing them. I wear them when I watch tv or drive. However, today while in Subway I noticed I couldn't even see the menu. All of these years of working on a computer are taking their toll.

I've had glasses for the past 20 years. Tried out contacts in high school once, but that just wasn't happening. I couldn't do the whole touching my eye thing. I think I look weird without glasses now though, so I don't mind wearing them.

Cubed, I never got made fun of when I had glasses on, but I guess it's different for other people. Nowadays, I don't know how it is, but with the invention of contacts, probably more kids are turning to that than using regular glasses.

Like I said, I actually had to try them once and give up, then come back for round-two before I finally got it.

So, yes. It takes a little while to find your technique and get comfortable with it. But it will happen. Now I put them in and out, adjust them, etc., without even thinking about it. You'll start out doing it in front of a mirror and eventually not even need that.

Mine too. I have to wear dark tinted glasses, and I tend to avoid going outside half the time because its too bright. I wish I could live and work during the night, but unfortunately night living seems to mess up human bodies after a while.

I've been as nocturnal as I could be since I was in middle school. it helped that I grew up in Las Vegas, and going outside during the daytime was murder due to the heat. So I just learned to live at night to the best of my ability. It's one of many reasons why I'm unemployed right now, though, since I've moved to a small town where there just aren't any night time jobs.

I don't wear them. I can see fine. When I was younger, some eye doctor prescribed me some as way to cure the migraines I have. That s**t didn't work and always gave me a migraine. So I didn't wear them but like 3 days.

Yeah..I never saw that happen. Not once.

*raises hand* I'm short-sighted. I'm not blind without them, but I can't make out faces, signs or details from a distance.

So a fair few of us use glasses... is anyone starting to come around to the idea of BayDonnie wearing glasses because they themselves wear glasses?

*raises hand* Guilty. It bugged me at first but I'm actually warming up to it.

Contacts bother me too much... My eyes were really red when I first tried to put in contacts because I am too scared to get my finger that close to my eye... Its easier to just keep the glasses...

I had to start wearing glasses primarily for reading blackboards as a senior in high school and didn't have to wear them all the time until halfway through college. I wore John Lennon glasses for 10 years until the frames deteriorated so much the eye place refused to make lenses for them & wear either thick rimmed nerdy/hipster glasses or this pair that has no rim on the bottom but are thin, purple cat eye shaped glasses.

I trained myself to wear contacts last fall for my wedding/honeymoon, but despite wearing them off and on for months (it took me 3 weeks to get over problems putting them in), getting them out is a huge, time - consuming ordeal and causes me anxiety. Logically, I know I will eventually get them out, but it really irritates my eyes and I'm always afraid they'll get stuck in there or go up behind/into my eyelid and stick. So, while I'd prefer to wear them, I usually don't.

I think my issue with Donnie and the glasses is that it isn't just nerds who wear glasses. (Seems like almost everyone I know is in glasses or contacts now that we're in our thirties or late twenties, and most of the people I know aren't nerds.) If he's near sighted, odds are one or more of his brothers would be, too. I also can't imagine seriously doing a lot of sports/strenuous physical activity with them. I mean, because glasses are a huge annoyance for me in those situations.

I've worn glasses full-time since I was five. I've never had an interest in wearing contacts, so I've never tried.

For karate I have prescription goggles that I wear for sparring. I have a dedicated cheap pair that I wear for the rest of the class, which usually doesn't involve getting hit in the face, but sometimes it happens (just yesterday I got kicked in the face by an upper belt during an exercise that was supposed to be practicing control...).

I didn't use them until I absolutely had to. I felt so ashamed when I was younger. I couldn't even see the blackboard but there was no way I was putting on glasses. I think differently now though. I wear glasses most of the time as my eyes are too sensitive for contact lenses.

Yup, since I was 10. Need them all day long unless I'm doing really close up stuff like drawing or reading small text. I do wear contacts sometimes, they're the ones which you can sleep in. They're advertised as monthly disposables but I was advised to give my eyes a break every week or so, even if just overnight. I have to have special flatter lenses because I have large eyeballs apparently. Not wearing them at present because of my hayfever. I was a little freaked out about the idea of putting something in my eye at first but it's something I got used to very quickly. For anyone thinking about contact lenses I would recommend trying a few different types and brands as it makes a huge difference. Took me years to find ones I can wear comfortably.

I did get teased at school for wearing glasses and consequently I would walk about without them despite the fact I could hardly see, which had a knock-on effect on my confidence. It doesn't bother me at all now, except when it's sunny and I can't wear sunglasses, that's a bit irritating.

Regards Donnie, I'm fine with his glasses. I hope we also get to see what he looks like without them too.
