Leo did take it on the chin... but it was at least comforting to see that he was also the one who made all of the sacrifices. LEO took the tazing; LEO rescued April and "that old guy"; LEO dove off the mountain; LEO was the first to go to Splinter's rescue.
I agree that they should have made Leo more badass... but I appreciated that Leo, as the leader, was the one to sacrifice the most. I'm just disappointed that this is probably entirely me just reading into it and not at all the actual intent of the script.

Leo was awesome in the movie. Gets tazed unconscious/wakes up/immediately back into action/tazed again/keeps going. I prefer my heroes fallible, fallible is more relatable (like early John McClane). Plus it's their first adventure in the real world, of course they're gonna screw up constantly.

You go! Ad I'll be right behind you to taze whatever turd-monkey goes after Mikey. Raph can fend for himself.

"Fallible" is one thing. "Constantly getting smacked around and made to look totally weaksauce" is another. Then again, "Bad-Ass" was Raph's job, can't have anyone encroach upon that.
I don't care if it's their "first outing" or not. They took plenty of lumps in the old movie without looking so damn incompetent half the time. "Raph Vs. 100" is one of my favorite fight scenes in any movie ever. He knows he's overwhelmed, doesn't back down, takes out a few, does his best... and still almost gets beaten to death, then thrown through a skylight, and he doesn't "pop back up all bad-ass", he's in a coma for an indeterminate amount of time. Call me crazy, but I felt that more. |

Raph's rooftop scene is my favourite scene in any Turtles movie. But no point comparing everything to the original movie cause everything is gonna pale & the conversation comes to a halt.
The sequel should have a scene where a Foot Soldier shoots a taze at Leo & he catches it by the side, breaks it in his hand, grins, then roundhouses the soldier. They could all be seasoned crime-fighters next time around, cleaning up the city with ease. Until Bebop & Rocksteady show up...

But yeah... they took a diss from Raphael and made that their actual origin. I've almost gotta respect that level of devotion to a terrible idea.

Yeah, when I was watching the Cinema Sins thing I felt like I'd forgotten half the movie as well - I was seeing stuff and going "Wait... did I see that?". Either my brain's trying to block out the memory of having sat through it or it really was that forgettable as a film.

I think that the movie would be weird.

I wouldn't have minded Leo getting tazed back and forth had he actually had some decent fight scenes. But every time he tries to do something he gets stopped, I guess they just didn't find anyone stunt performer that could do dual Nihonto, so Leo didn't get any proper fight scenes..?

Yes. I would love to compare and contrast the two versions. See which one I like better. If Platinum Dunes/Viacom can put out something like Rogue edition of Days of Future Past then that would fantastic.

What I'd really like to see is an "April's Not a Moron" cut. And you'd only have to change the third act: April, Raphael and Vern have just rescued the Turtles from Sacks' house/compound. But instead of drawing the attention of the Foot Soldiers outside and getting into a high-speed chase down a mountain, April uses her skills and knowledge as a reporter to call the appropriate authorities and tell them about Sacks' plan, sending them geo-tagged photo evidence of Sacks' illegal activities from his Evil Crime Lab and a shot of the Shredder (from when he decided to just walk away) so they'd know what they were in for. Then the Turtles can deal with the Foot Soldiers at the compound while an adequate response team infiltrates Sacks' building and deals with the threat more quickly and efficiently than two unarmed reporters and four teenagers without projectile weapons. The Turtles then rush home to take care of the injured Splinter, and April saves her career by busting a major story and saves the city with journalism.

First of all, what kind of investigative journalist only has ONE CAMERA on them? And a crappy cell phone camera that she can't even bother to keep charged. HD handycams cost like 200 bucks and are very easy to carry around. Second of all, spouting out in a meeting with your colleagues and boss that there are magic ninjas running around without a shred of proof is also stupid. Third of all, going to your boss with what amounts to a blurry photo of Bigfoot as proof is also so, so stupid. She was a clueless moron the entire movie, and really, really bad at her chosen profession. Which she didn't get back at the end of the movie. |
