TMNT 2 Box Office Predictions and Results

It's totally fair to blame a sequel's opening on the previous movie. But if word of mouth does nothing, in the weeks after, I think it eventually falls on the sequel.

I thought it was kind of telling that almost nobody I know brought the movie up to me. Sure, some of my friends know that I hated the last one, but not close to all of them, and even then... almost total silence.

I just don't think most people were interested in what PD was selling. And maybe the domestic audience is finally getting tired of Michael Bay? China is still a question mark, but keep in mind that Transformers 4 performed well below the previous movies in North America. But it made almost 1/3 of its total box office take in China. Considering the logos attached to this movie, I'm sure Bay's very aware of this trend.

Sounds like a whole lot of Blame Game™ going on and not a lot of admitting OotS is a steaming pile of Fred Wolf goodness with the feces level turned up to 9 on the dial.

Well, we do have two polls here saying that 70% of us liked it. So we can't ALL blame the movie.

But at the same time, weren't people back in 2014 defending that particular film (almost to the death) by saying it was fantastic, awesome, and spectacular? And if there was a poll, did it have a similar/high percentage?

But it seems that nowadays, the general consensus (even from some of those same folks on here) was that it was a pretty bad flick.

To get the true numbers, you have to adjust a certain % off due to a certain resilient faction that comes out of the woodwork every time one of these things drops...

I suppose we could dig it up. There were definitely polls. I really want to say they were 50-50 though.

This was the movie's biggest sin for me. The most "martial arts" moment in the entire film was when Leonardo was practicing as Raphael came up to confront him. In this day and age, it was an unacceptable mistake of sheer stupidity and cluelessness by the suits responsible for this waste of a film. It does my heart good to see it failing. I just badly want the idiots behind the film to understand WHY it failed. But sadly, I know they will just foolishly conclude that "Well, the trend of TMNT has clearly passed and there is no one left who likes them so the TMNT are a dead, unwanted franchise. What's the next trend we can exploit?!"

I'm very okay with the shameless, soulless, corporate-synergy cash-ins tanking. If they bring the whole franchise down with them, well, then Viacom clearly didn't research the mid-'90s section of this property's history when they bought it out.

Wasn't even sure where this Melo Turtles stuff was sold at until five minutes ago. Just looked at Macy's site...meh. The Turtles are a niche interest enough, making most of it also basketball themed (and putting his name pretty prominent on much of it) is super niche. Like the Turtles and basketball AND this guy? Well you're in luck! For most everyone else in the world... eh.

This is also the one that was only doing kids stuff, wasn't it. Also a bad move.
