That could be solved easily if the cops brought armour-piercing rounds, couldn't it? Probably what'll happen. The bulletproof thing gets a lot of flack but made sense for the first movie - they turned The Foot into military-like mercenaries cause gun-less ninjas wouldn't last two seconds against the police/SWAT in this day & age. Un-bulletproof Ninja Turtles wouldn't last two seconds against The Foot's guns. So they did what they did... but like I said, armour-piercing rounds could bring that threat right back in an instant.

Word, that scene where The Foot had a fought against an army of cops was intense.

Wait, that never happened.

The Foot don't need to be military-like mercenaries when they don't even go NEAR cops, let alone fight them. & besides, REAL ninjas against a handful of piggies with standard issue? C'mon, we know who's gonna win that, & it ain't the bacon.

Man, that would be awesome to see. Have The Foot ever taken out cops in any of the animated shows?

Just because the boiled down core of something is silly/dumb, doesn't mean everything about it has to be.

I care enough about this franchise and these characters to want more out of it. I've been given that every so often in various forms.

Wish I could say the same for some people here.

Certainly not getting it out of these movies.
THANK YOU! Someone finally points out the silly concept of Batman whenever someone brings up the idea of Ninja Turtles being silly.

You know this is probably how they get caught by police. Very noticeable little van running around the city with a fake tag and apparent lack of proper registration and inspection. Like they aren't going to get pulled over sooner or later.

The turtles have battled people with guns before quite a number of times from street thugs to Bishop's black ops guys heck as defenders of the movie routinely pointed out the Mirage Foot occasionally used guns and the Fred Wolf Foot Robots were armed with laser guns.

It's a suspension of disbelief thing but like non-powered heroes such as Daredevil and Batman they use their skills to dodge and outrun gunfire. That's just how we perceive characters who are primarily martial artists.

I doubt it as I think that defeats one of the reasons why they were bulletproof. I think there's a certain element of wanting to have their cake and eat it too in terms of the action. Obviously they wanted over the top violence for the kind of audience that eats that up but want to cover themselves and make it clear the characters can't really be hurt. (And yeah they were bulletproof all over not just their shells maybe they can hope no one picked up on that enough for it be retconned but it was there)

The other reason is that Bay has a huge boner for all things military. In which case it's kinda like the whole idea of Shredder having a mega-mech suit specifically because the the turtles are so big and super strong this is a a circular argument. The turtles are bullet proof because the villains are armed with guns and the villains the are armed with guns is because the characters are bulletproof.

Anything awesome can be boiled down to something that sounds silly.

A guy with a hat and a whip who is afraid of snakes finds lost treasures.

A big lizard stomps its way through Tokyo.

A human-looking alien gets powers from the sun and can fly and is invulnerable and fights a bald guy sometimes.

A bunch of turtles and a rat get mutated by ooze in the sewer and become ninjas who fight a blade-covered samurai.

Literally anything sounds stupid if you describe it at its most basic level.

But then again all those things have at one time or another been GREAT. And I believe the Turtles can be too. I'm not willing to settle for sh*t just because it's served to me.

Exactly all of this. So bloody simple.

^ THIS. Couldn't have said it better.

It's stuff like this movie that makes me thankful we have actually GOOD comic book adaptations out there, both for television and movies.

I still hope that the reboot, whenever it comes in the future, will avoid the mistakes that were made here. And that the people working on actually bother to do research on the past material instead of changing things for the sake of change.

If Solid Snake can believably take on and wipe out the entire FoxHound unit and take down the entire Genome army, single-handed, to the point of knocking a Hind-D chopper out of the sky and surfing a freakin' missile, without being bullet-proof or otherwise damage-resistant, than I can believe a group of similarly-capable ninjas can handle a few SWAT cops.

The Turtles shouldn't need to be huge or bullet-proof to be "bad-ass", they just need skillz, yo. They should be a team of Solid Snakes, not a team of Hulks.

See, if more things in life just had the good sense to rip off Metal Gear Solid, the whole world would be a better place.

for all we know they could have...ninja secrets are very closely guarded. passed down ONLY from parent to child. so long as that parent learns it first from a book that was misplaced in the sewer by a previous hardcore ninja clan.

Well, if it's presumably the police they are dealing with in that shot, it might at least confuse them to the Turtles' advantage.

I wonder if we're going to be seeing any hints of Krang? If not, at least have Baxter Stockman's MOUSERS play a role. I don't wanna see a whole movie with the Turtles fighting the Foot Soldiers again.
