That line in #8 isn't a confirmation that the Foot have the serum as we see the Foot lose everything on panel. Although, it could be interpreted as a retcon much like Splinter's blood is now the same as the serum.

They didn't lose everything. Just enough mutagen to mutate splinter and the turtles. The foot has been able to make mutants for some time this was confirmed in Raphaels micro.

Ha, this went exactly as I thought/hoped it would! I want Shredder & Krang to be enemies, not allies, so this is rad. All out war! Bludgeon seems cool, but I reeeeeeally wish he hadn't been spoiled on Deviantart. Ross posted some (fan?)art of him the other day. Cool design, though. At any rate, Cory Smith is the freakin' man, I hope he gets to do more full issues. His Karai micro remains a favorite of mine. I especially love these kinda issues that don't feature the TMNT, it's so great to have other characters fleshed out & get to see their separate dealings.

Not only that....but...isn't this one of the few issues that doesn't cut to another subplot? That is pretty much about 1 story without the, "Now lets check up on April and Casey..."?

Yeah, you're right. I can't stand that ping-pong pacing. This & Northampton have read wonderfully thanks to the steady flow.

there is that very brief cut to Alopex hunting a rabbit when Kitsune makes another power-move in the grand chess game, but that's it

Related, I like the way this last arc dealt with a turtle or two per issue. It's reminiscent of the micros and gave characters like Don and Angel time to shine. Granted we kept bouncing back to Casey, but whatever, he was the b-plot connecting each issue of the last arc and I'm interested in where he's going.

I loved City Fall and the way it expanded the IDW universe, but I've missed these more down to earth stories focused on the turtles as individuals. It's nice not bouncing between three or four different POVs every issue, actually makes the issues feel fairly self-contained. That's probably part of why #37 was so good, thinking about it. That and hey, Shredder vs. Krang grudge match.

I've been trying to guess what's next for Casey but I'm stumped. I was thinking that he'd start training harder after fully recovering and start cracking more skulls than ever, with his daddy-drama induced anger issues fueling him, but now that the last we've seen of him is April's parents taking him in and making him feel cared for, that doesn't seem so likely (at least the hardcore anger issues, I still expect Casey to resume being badass pretty soon)

Maybe he will come across a dose of the ooze somehow, to level the playing field between him and his dad? Uninspired, I know, but I really fail to see where IDW is going with him.

Is that before or after Harold becomes Leatherhead?

Between HL becoming LH and Woody becoming Mondo Gecko.

But first they met Bishop who is from Kitsune's/Rat King race.

While Krang asks Stockman to build Chromedome using one of the dead Foot Ninja's body from the ship assault, to assisinate Shredder.

And Shredder goes for quest to find the Tengu Blade which he found out about from newly discovered secret copy of Himitsu no Ashi.

And Donatello does it with machines...

This may just be fanfic in my head, but I'm wondering about Casey's development since City Fall and get the sense it's going somewhere. My train of thought goes something like: he's been injured pretty bad quite a few times, might have suffered brain damage for all we know after his coma, his dad's gone villain henchman, he's lost his scholarship so he feels like he failed his mom, and it seems his relationship with April is getting rockier by the day (am I the only one who got that vibe this last story arc?). I'm wondering if Casey is heading for the deep end and maybe we'll see more of his old Mirage self creeping up in his personality. The way he keeps jumping at his friends the past few issues has me waiting for the issue where he finally just snaps at someone and crosses a line.

One other thought that occurred to me after this last arc: wouldn't it be neat if Angel decided to become a cop, and we got the Nobody story, just backwards? It could be a neat arc for her--after losing the Dragons, she joins the official police instead and rises through the ranks over the years, giving the turtles new opportunities for story hooks. Again, probably just brain fanfic. But I'm curious what they're going to do with her character given how much we keep seeing her in this TMNT universe.

An interesting case would be, if he'd take side with his father later, or would take over his gang/territory after he dies around #50.

Btw, it's just me, or Hun is pretty much a character which one is destined to be killed? To me he seems like one of those villains who redeem themselves at the end before they die. He'll probably save Casey from some Shredder releated attack and gets a mortal wound by doing that.

But I hope I'm wrong, I don't want that to happen, that's so fkin cliché.

Agreed. I hope they don't go that route. They could just as easily have him saunter off alone to reflect on his life.

There are some IDW villains so despicable I hope they bite it at some point though, which is to the series' credit -- it's building up quite a rogues gallery. Shredder's kind of obvious, but frankly I think these versions of Karai, Rocksteady and Bebop eclipse him in some way as far as just being terrible people. Karai in particular is responsible for almost everything the modern Foot Clan has done, including blindly resurrecting Shredder, because, essentially, she just wanted to be a ninja. I'd rather just have her ride that role out than go for any kind of redemption or neutral Karai as has historically been done. Ditto on B&R: They're basically killing for fun.

Even Shredder and Krang have some misguided baggage behind them and seem to be working for reasons ostensibly bigger than glory or boredom. Karai, Bebop and Rocksteady are not.

Not sure if you saw, but Shredder's also in the Battle of the Week

And yeah, excellent issue. My jaw was dropped when Oroku emerged from Krang's barrage of explosives. The dialogue and the action were equally intense.
