So Star Killer Base is in fact a new Death Star, but more powerful.

Quote:
It is very much — and it’s acknowledged as such in the movie — apparently another Death Star,” Abrams says. “But what it’s capable of, how it works, and what the threat is, is far greater than what the Death Star could have done. Starkiller Base is another step forward, technologically speaking, in terms of power.”
This confirms all the rumors of Starkiller Base's weapon being capable of destroying systems.

The running time seems perfect. It won't drag on, but it's definitely got length. Good job, JJ.

Words cannot describe how hyped I am.
Hopefully I'll be able to order my tickets tomorrow if my friend is okay with the date I suggested.

Aren't you a little c*nt?
You should call him out when he's being a creep like in that Supergirl thread. Not when he's doing harmless stuff like this.
Calm down.

George Lucas explains why he's no longer making Star Wars movies, Apparently he wrote a script to continue a story in Episode 7, but Disney wanted to go another direction and do fan service instead.

You're right, though your facts are wrong. When the deal was happening and Disney was buying, Lucas was contractually obligated to provide full synopsis treatments for 7, 8, and 9 for the sale. Michael Arndt did a script based on Lucas' treatment for 7, but at some point Abrams and company stepped in, threw out that draft, sat down with Lucas and told him they weren't using any of his stuff.

Sad, that. I don't give a f*ck if you hate his prequels, this is still his baby. Now get ready for a "greatest hits" with Episode 7, complete with back-to-back throwback lines of Episodes IV and V primarily. I bet there will even be a scene for fanboy service where Han definitively fires on someone first.

I read an article about how based on the leaks the movie is still pretty much based on Lucas' ideas just some details changed around and why they don't understand that he is going around telling people they didn't use any of them.

With that said as much as I am hyped for this movie (and boy am I hyped) I am also a little bit worried that this movie is nothing but OT fanwank going through the motions and basically recycling the OT to please fans and they will eat it up and ironically making the prequels more interesting movies in the first place and people will start defending them more. For this reason I'm kind of happy we're getting a different director for VIII.

You mean the fact that the movie has a third Death Star, a new villain whose helmet and motive resembles Darth Vader's, Rey starts off on Tatooine and meets a droid just like Luke, and Han has a major role in it similar to his old one, hasn't tipped you guys off?

I'm willing to bet half the movie is designed as a nostalgia trip.

I kinda feel the same way. Like, everything looks good, but I'm also getting a feeling of someone trying way, way too hard to please, and that always kind of rubs me wrong. Just a little bit.

I also feel a little bit bad for Lucas, because he did start the whole thing pretty much, and when you hear him talk anymore you can tell he's way more bitter than he lets on. Lots of his "fans" took the Prequels as some kind of personal betrayal, and the general hyperbole about how bad they supposedly are has accelerated beyond nonsense at this point yet only shows signs of accelerating once the new movies start rolling out. Like, okay, nothing that's ever existed in all of human history is as bad as some people say the Prequels are. People begged for 20+ years for more Star Wars movies, the guy made them, and people attacked him for not getting inside every fan's head and magically knowing how the stories he came up with were "supposed" to go. I mean the guy's entire fanbase rabidly turned on him because his Star Wars fanfiction was different from theirs, only his actually got put on screen. That's a shame, and it's always bugged me.

I mean I've heard enough stories about what comes out of the guy's mouth to know that he's kind of a wacko, albeit a creative one. He has lots of Big Ideas, and like most people, it's better when other people weren't afraid to whittle some of the dead wood off of them before they're finished and presented to the public. So while I can defend him I'm not a fanatical devotee. I just kind of feel bad for him; people asked him to do something, he spent years saying no, finally gave in, gave them what they asked for, and then they turned on him with needlessly excessive force for not meeting arbitrary expectations. It has to hurt to read/hear people saying, day after day, year after year, "Pretty much everyone is better at that thing you created than you are." I wanna have a beer with him and give him a hug or something.
