God... sometimes you're really interesting and insightful but times like these I'm convinced you're a liberal parody account.

First of all, it wasn't sexual.

Secondly, so what? He's the ****ing villain. I'm not supposed to condone his actions.

And finally, it's art. I'd expect you to respect that.

Plastron, I'm just asking, honesty. Are you saying you'd rather the movie show Harley being abused?

In this movie, there isn't much. He gives her electric shocks, but at that point she's already in love and tells him "I can take it"

After that, there isn't any. She jumps into the pit on her own accord, he goes out of his way to rescue her multiple times, and when they're together in the club, they work together, not him above her

Meh, that Joker/Batgirl cover is so trashy.

Just a simple edit, and it's a thousand times better and way more interesting.

Hmmm. Fair point. I can see this alternate point of view.

Sometimes I think I'm the only one on here...

I've started to prune the ridiculous arguing in this thread. If some of you want to keep attacking each other personally I'll give out infraction next. I could also send you on a vacation if you like.

I would consider what Joker does to Barbara Gordon in the Killing Joke, which this alternate cover of Batgirl's Reboot is clearly referencing, sexual in nature.

YMMV

I would rather they be honest about the nature of their canonical relationship, yeah.

If all you can see in these threads is "me starting things" you're not looking then
Fair enough, I probably misread an earlier post before that.

As for the whole "starting" stuff, I see now I blew it out of proportion because after all, it's just a film and some people do know I'm a film lunatic. It's all subjective after all; personally, I'm just hoping to see a good movie out of this after my indifference to Man of Steel and disdain for Dawn of Justice. Either I'm losing my sanity on vacation or the obvious misreading, so apologies.

Just curious. Cause I hadn't heard that yet.

But yeah, so far in what's been seen in this DC universe, Harley isnt nearly as abused as say, he animated series counterpart

Not a problem in the slightest.
I'm not a DC fanboy, but Joker is to me still the greatest villain in comics. Like, hands down, no contest, and for pretty much the reason Alfred gives us in Nolan's movie:

"Some men just want to watch the world burn."

That's scary.
That's not a character that loves anyone, or anything. And it's certainly not a character that's going to be changed by the love of a good woman.
That relationship is...awesome, in both senses of the word, for that very reason.

Harley thinks she's the magical pixie dream girl that's just going to fix him...and she isn't. And her insanity is that she keeps trying any way and gets the same result every time.

So KJ was hunky dory, but I'm a pervert for not decrying a piece of art depicting a bad guy doing bad things?

I feel like we're losing each other somewhere.

My problem with the cover is that it's tacky, gross, and undercuts the whole point of the reboot.

I gotcha now.

Definitely an interesting relationship. Shows both characters in their light.

However, I'm accepting of this new, power couple like relationship. They both are crazy and capable. Jokers obviously still on top, but Harley's not just there for show.

If it's any consolation, there is a glimpse of him valuing him over her in the car chase scene

I guess I can understand the appeal of the joker/Harley. It's the appeal of a dark forbidden love, it's interesting to see "sin" in the flesh. It's like my appeal to the image of a man dancing with a skeleton in a dress... It's something... Otherworldly

It's a good psychological point, trying to understand the "why?" Like why yanderes feel "love" when they see people like objects.

You didn't like it, that's fine. But don't you think it's snobbish of you to call snake and I child molestation advocates (in your snarky round about way) for not finding it objectionable?

I wouldn't accuse you of racketeering for liking The Soprano's, and Tony's the ****ing protagonist.

Nah, I'd call you racist for that, because I'm Sicilian.

You don't find an image that implies the sexual molestation of a minor objectionable?
I love dark. I love gallows humor. I don't think that image is appropriate for a title that's ostensibly marketed towards a younger demographic. Even if it's a variant meant for older fanboys to hur hur hur at.

They went out of their way to reimagine Barbara so she wasn't a victim of the Joker's violence anymore, and then made a variant cover that recalls that very character defining event, but with a younger protagonist.

I'm sorry it's gross.

Honestly, my favorite scene was her jumping into the pit because of this (aside from the perfect music and dialogue)

Seeing her decide to completely drop her 20 some years of life prior to that, bleach her skin and hair by diving off a high dive, is just fascinating. Her look through out all of it is just this daze of becoming Harley.

Which is why I hate new 52s origin. Joker pushing Harley in to make her crazy defeats the purpose of her choosing to be crazy for him. Acid bath, yes. Forced acid bath, no

Objectionable? No. Disturbing? Yes, absolutely.

But that's ok because it's fiction (i.e. not real), and fiction is supposed to make you feel different things. Not everything is My Little Pony.

And it made me feel gross.
But for some reason you guys keep trying to insist that this different feeling is wrong.
What's up with that?
