It makes me wish there were such things as powerful fan guilds that had enough influence on studios to have the power to veto hiring decisions on films. Such as getting some like Bay or these writers OUT if people don't want a person involved.

I feel for the Turtles, they do deserve so much better. Heck, at this point I'd be ok with keeping the 2014 guys for the time being and just getting them into someone else's hands to see what a better, more solid (and much more substance filled) movie could do with/for them.
Wasn't referring to Bay or even Platinum Dunes, they don't own the turtles.
One of the biggest problems here is Eastman's involvement, putting his stamp of approval on anything that's going to put a dollar in his pocket.

Not to play semantics, well, it is semantics, but he has a style. And yes, it is his style, not the other directors you've mentioned. Tonally, and stylistically, Fincher is completely different, but I suppose to some, they appear to be cut from the same cloth. Fincher is the superior story teller, and more conciensious when he frames his subject. To your point, Bay is reppetitive, and in recent years, it's become boring. I agree.
BUT, name any high profile Director who ISN"T doing the same. They all find something that works, and repeat ad infinitum.
Even Spielberge admitted most directors only have one good story in them to tell, two if they're lucky. The characters and situations change, but the basic premise boils down to the same thing.

Fincher had been using that visual style for his music videos since the late 80's - you can see it in the music videos he did for "Janie's Got A Gun", "Express Yourself", "Freedom 90", "Cradle of Love", "Cold Hearted"...
Arguments have been made in the reverse as well. Some people argue it was Fincher ripping off Bay's commercial work. (I love Fincher over Bay, so I hope it's not true.)

But he's been a big joke most of his career. After Pain and Gain, he started getting real offers. bay basically legitimized aHulk hogan rip off, with about as much acting skill. Genius.

I didn't mean it to sound like that. What I meant was, I couldn't believe this man that everyone hates, and calls the devil etc, is nothing like his films and notoriety would lead you to believe. he's, inexpicably, the polar opposite. just more of a WTF than anything else.

Ever play the telephone game? Yeah.. that. plus, half the time it's more the culture of Hollywood. No the misogyny part of that particular story, but the storytelling part of that story. it's a city fully of people who make up great (and not so great) stories, and more people who like to act out said stories. It's expected, in fact demanded taht you have that "this one time I" storey. That plus telephone game equals urban legends of mammoth proportions.

He's a crazy work-o-holic. He wasn't a silver spoon baby. He's earned his money. The otherside of that coin, is that most people resent him for having paid said money, though, in reality, how many other films have you paid for and thought you were ripped off? Yes TF is not as advertised, but then again, fool me once and all that. By the time we get to turtles? Like, seriously? he made 4 films that most geeks hated before TMNT hit theaters. FOUR!.
Shame on them. He earned every penny because people never learn. Again, If you had a lemonade stand, and everyday, hundreds of people bought that lemonade, and everyday, promply spit it out, what possible reason would you have for showing up the next day? What's the defense mechanism when millions of people buy your product, then openly chastise you for it, but buy again?
In that scenario, who's the crazy one? Who's an idiot? just how much respect would you have for your customer?

I didn't want to say it, but...yeah. He's not an asshole, just for the record, but if I were him, the fans might have turned me into one. And I might decide that the next time I make one of their childhood films, i **** it up, and **** it up hard.

Now you're talking sense.

Spiderman is getting what the fans have been asking for because Pascal was publicly embarrassed, and ASM2 underperformed to such an extent, they LOST money. They lost money on a Spider-man film. That's insane. They lost money because fans said no, not because it was crappy but they went to support Spider-man just cause golly gee, peter needs my 20$'s golly gee whiz.

The studio took the deal with Marvel because there is no risk for them now, just reward. it was too good to pass up.

C'mon now.

I agree with all that, 42. Cept the Dwayne Johnson comments- it was Fast Five that made him a hot commodity again (Pain & Gain came & went with few noticing). And Hulk Hogan rip-off??? watch The Rundown and Be Cool (actually don't, neither film is great, but he's superb in them).

I still don't think Bay deserves his level of success, any more than many other cater-to-the-lowest-common-denominator celebs who "work" for their money (see Appendix D: Snooki) deserve to be wealthy. That being said, that's an argument firmly rooted in my own emotional bias and regardless, I respect the way you put forth an argument and that you're able to disagree with me without being a dillhole.

See folks, people can have differing opinions and still be bros! C42 and I are living the dream!!! Also fist-bump for being a fellow Fincher fan.

So just outta curiosity, I'm guessing based on what you've said that you've met the dude? Care to share the tale?

Some of us want this movie to crash and burn because we take the Turtles seriously.

Spider-Man's getting a reboot because, while the Amazing Spider-Man series was profitable, it didn't hit the level Sony was expecting and they eventually wised up enough to realize they needed Marvel's help. It's a pretty unique situation that doesn't apply here.

They're able to recognize that the movie made tons of $ but everyone hated and they're able to equate that to people love/want TMNT but not like this, so they reboot sooner. Otherwise it's "Reboot TMNT? Nah there wasn't enough interest last time."
Yeah, no, I don't think it works like that. And I know it's been covered already, but still... The Turtles have already proven themselves very profitable. There's proven interest in the property. Merchandise had done quite well for the most part. That's all that matters. If there's money to be made, they're gonna make it, however they think the best way to do that is.

But if the sequel makes money hand over fist, Paramount's not gonna magically decide to reboot the series and make better movies, because as long as the movies are making money as-is they don't think there's a problem. That's why the awful Transformers movies keep/kept trucking along despite terrible reviews and a wide audience openly hating them - they make money, so why would they change the formula? If you keep paying for movies you dislike or hate, you are voting for more of the same. Every time.

However, if the first movie made money (which it did) and the second one under-performs, that sends the message that the audience is interested in the Turtles, but doesn't want this version of them. That's the best possible thing that could happen for this property right now. Interest and profit potential have been proven already - if this sequel somehow fails (or under-performs), that's the best chance we have to see them change direction as soon as possible.

Sure - and in all likelihood the only reason they're doing that is because the fourth movie under-performed domestically. It made a lot less in North America than the first three. See?

Well Kevin doesn't own the turtles either.

As much as I've taking to ragging on the guy for endorsing every version it's not like his stamp of approval really makes any difference to what Nickleodeon/Paramount/Platinum Dunes does with them.

Nor does it make much difference to how they are received. Apart from the truly naive ones most fans know to take what he says with a massive amount of salt and the general public couldn't give a crap what either creator thinks. In fact it's quite surprising he hasn't been giving interviews saying how the sequel will the be the best movie ever. I'm wondering if that's because the powers that be have cottoned on that his endorsement means nothing.

Maybe... I'd sorta prefer it than the film makers deciding him putting his stamp on anything is justification to go ahead with any truly stupid idea they come up with and ignore fan review.

It isn't isn't.

Let's posit a hypothetical scenario that something they planned Kevin didn't care for and he spoke up and said he didn't like it. They'd do it anyway and he'd be powerless to do anything.

I highly doubt he was approving every decision as they made it anyway, I doubt he knew the ins and outs of everything until late on. All of his suggestions were seemingly ignored and he still happily endorsed it. It's just convenient for them to have his public endorsement to try and silence anyone who complains about changes so they can counter "well the creator loves it so what's your problem?"

I doubt we're gonna get anything spoilertastic. I don't remember us getting set photos about the final fight, the Turtles in the snow chase, or them meeting April. I remember we only got one with Shredder for the lair invasion, so here's hoping we'll get a Shredder pic. If he's in the same mo-cap suit as before, well, then we'll have our answer if he's going to wear the same costume. Dear Lord, please let him have a different costume. But yeah, I doubt we'll see anything new. Bebop and Rocksteady will probably be filmed on a soundstage/green screen, and if Krang is actually in this movie, they'll most definitely film his scenes inside to prevent him from being seen.

And at least we already know how that sort of thing tends to go down.

Edit: Although, collectively there's a lot that could give too many hints away. And that's only speaking about pics and info thus far, I've still been avoiding video clips and who knows what will turn up between now and summer.

Eh, ever since they casted Jones, we knew that was bound to happen. Only part of that which is spoilery is that we know Casey meets all four Turtles at once, rather than meeting Raph first like he usually does in most material.

"We gotta speed the movie up, gotta get through all these talky, character moments and get to the next poorly shot, impossible-to-see-what's-going-on action set piece that we thought of first and then 'wrote' the movie around. I say 'wrote' because I actually mean watch a bunch of comic book movies and then steal ideas from them."
