Ridley is closer to a playable character than he's ever been before. He's literally everything a normal character tends to be.

The baffling part is Sakurai KNOWS how popular and requested Ridley is, that's why he made him two boss fights in Brawl and why now in this game he's not only a stage boss but will fight alongside you and has a player icon.

As opposed to someone like King K. Rool who only gets trophies and is completely ignored and isn't even an assist trophy. But Ridley keeps getting major focus. Its really bizarre. I've never seen a character like Ridley constantly showcased so much in each Smash game without becoming playable. Funny thing is Ridley has been in all 4 games:

- Smash 64 you can see the sprite of Ridley flying in the background of the Metroid level

- Melee has Samus and Ridley fighting in the opening

- Brawl had two boss fights with Ridley

- SSB4 has Ridley as a stage boss and player helper


It feels like Sakurai is edging close and closer to finally making him playable. I just hope we don't have to wait till 2019 for it to happen.

Considering Sakurai made a fighter out of "Wii Fit Trainer" of all things, I'm sure Ridley having a moveset from his games is quite easy.

A giant flying dragon doesn't translate as well as the Wii Fit Trainer. Besides, if Sakurai were to put Ridley in the game everyone would whine about how he could have been so much better.

Putting Ridley as a stage hazard/ally is the nicest thing Sakurai could have done for Ridley whiners.

The character has practically a full moveset. With a little tweaking maybe the classic Super Metroid design for Ridley can be playable while clone Ridley remains a boss.

The whole thing about Ridley is that he FLIES. You could argue that he could have limited flight abilities like Meta Knight, but then everyone would accuse Ridley of being a Meta Knight clone. And if there's one thing rabid Smash fans hate more than there being no Ridley, it's clones.

I actually agree with CyberCubed, I can see Ridley becoming a full playable character, not that I care all that much, but I would like toe see the fans get what they want.

I actually don't give a toss either way. I never played enough Metroidt to care, personally. I mean Nintendo was able to get me excited enough for Palutena and the Fire Emblem cast with trailers (although Plautena ended up sucking hard) and never in a million years would I have thought that I'd be maining Bowser Jr.

I'm just tired of Ridley, Shadow the damn Hedgehog, and f**king Goku being the only characters that are "wanted" ad nauseum, and specifically here, there being like 20 stupid pages on damn Barney with wings.

I suppose that's why I still held hype hen Mewtwo was announced. He wasn't parroted across the net even half as much as the above other than that stupid rumor list.

Why on earth would you compare Ridley to idiotic choices like Goku, Shadow, etc?

Ridley is one of the most iconic Nintendo villains of all time and debuted back in 1986, he's appeared in 80% of the Metroid games as a boss, he's directly tied to Samus backstory as he killed her parents when she was a toddler, and he's the leader of the Space Pirates.

Ridley is not some feral beast, he's highly intelligent and commands the Space Pirate army. Every boss fight with him in the Metroid games has been fantastic. He's one of the most requested playable characters for over a decade.
